Chapter 484 – Team Seven

Summary: Away from the battle, Sakura is healing Karin, who is now gaining consciousness. Nearby, Kakashi and Sasuke are still facing off, as Sasuke begins harping about how Kakashi has no right to bear the eyes of the Uchiha. Elsewhere, Naruto is reminiscing about every advice he has been given regarding Sasuke; from Itachi, Raikage and Gaara who all warned him that Sasuke has strayed onto a path of no return. Regardless of all the advice however, in his mind Naruto is still being stubborn thinking that he would know what to do with Sasuke once he sees him face to face.

In the battle, Sasuke has activated his Susanoo and attempts to attack Kakashi with one of his arrow shots. Kakashi however was able to dodge the attack, although he was very close to death as he was only able to negate the attack by warping the arrow into another dimension via his mangekyou sharingan. Sasuke is shocked to see him activate the mangekyou, as he never thought that a non-Uchiha had the ability to unearth the hidden technique. Kakashi once again pleas for Sasuke to look into his heart but Sasuke is having none of it, as he is convinced that the peace achieved by Konoha was at the cost of Itachi’s own life, as they leave happily without knowing his brother’s sacrifice.

This rage further strengthens his Susanoo, as it starts to change form once more, resembling a darker version of Itachi’s susanoo. Very soon however, the susanoo disintegrates as Sasuke’s eyes begin to strain and lose light from his lost in stamina and non-stop use of the mangekyou. With his vision impaired almost to the point of blindness, Sakura uses the opportunity to come from behind and attempt to stab him with her kunai.

Ultimately she wasn’t able to pull through with the act though, as she stopped an inch away after realizing how much Sasuke meant to her. Sasuke realizes what had happened and swiftly takes Sakura’s kunai and attempts to stab her himself. Kakashi, who is still recovering from the mangekyou, is not able to get to Sakura in time but in the blink of an eye, in swoops Naruto just in time to save Sakura from certain death.

My Thoughts: Oh wow, a lot actually happened in this one chapter and although the Kakashi-Sasuke faceoff was cut short, next week’s chapter has been set up to be quite a blast. Once again, Sakura shows just how useless she is, as she is unable to deal the final blow. That was the chance of a lifetime, with Sasuke down for the count and unaware of her actions. One would think that as a shinobi, she is able to cast off emotions and memories like that but alas, it was not meant to be. Of course, given that this is a shounen and that the fight between Naruto and Sasuke was destined to happen the moment they met, Sakura stood no chance in that aspect. Then again, it does not help her cause and she begins to become more of a burden as she has caused Naruto and Kakashi nothing but worry with her spontaneous changes of heart.

While I was very disappointed at not seeing a prolonged battle between Kakashi and Sasuke, it was good to see that all the mangekyou spamming has set it’s toll on Sasuke, as his vision at this point seems to be worse than Itachi’s. What this means for the future I don’t know, as I’m sure Madara will not let his prized possession lose the light forever. This will likely mean that this is not the last battle between Sasuke and the Konoha ninjas, as it is inevitable that he is saved by Madara in order to save his eyes. That pretty much means that he will need to access his brother’s eyes in order to gain the eternal mangekyou, or even maintain his eyesight for that matter. Another thing that could have happened if the fight was sustained is that we might get an explanation on how Kakashi was able to attain his mangekyou. Since he had lost all his loved ones years ago, how was he able to achieve the mangekyou during the time-skip? Did it just magically happen or is there something else that triggered it? I would love to find out this particular detail before the manga is done.

As for Sasuke’s susanoo, it was definitely beginning to transform again, this time into a form that is eerily similar to his brother’s. This was probably triggered by his regret on his brother’s life but it was interesting to see his susanoo transform over and over again. Is it due to his unstable emotions and state of mind? All signs point to yes. The exciting thing about next week of course is Naruto standing face to face with Sasuke again. I can’t imagine what Naruto would do once the fact that Sasuke nearly killed Sakura sinks in. Will he get enraged by this and go kyuubi again? Or is he gonna keep calm this time and try to talk some sense into him? Either way, they are now on more even footing as ever, as Naruto has gotten substantial amounts of power-ups since they last met in Orochiamaru’s lair. Another point of interest is whether or not Naruto will reveal to Sasuke his previous encounter with Itachi. Maybe that revelation would be enough to crack through Sasuke’s thick skull (or perhaps enrage him more knowing that his brother trusted Naruto with the power to stop him). Then again, we might also get to see what sort of counter-measure against Sasuke Itachi has given Naruto.

Hopefully Madara doesn’t spoil the party too soon, cos it’s just getting started with this proper Team Seven reunion.

  Yeah, Sasuke probably needs to get a new set of eyes. I wonder what happened to Itachi's body after he died.

  Sasuke's Susanoo seems to reflect his state of mind. The crazier and angrier he gets, the bigger and nastier the Susanoo becomes it seems. I guess the Susanoo changing sort of makes up for the fact that Sasuke keeps spamming the move over and over and over again.

    Will he accept his brother's eyes though? I don't think he can opt for any other set since the eternal mangekyou seems to only work on a sibling's pair. Guess he won't have much choice if he really wants to fulfill his revenge.

    Hopefully Sennin Naruto will be able to knock some sense into him. Funny how both their trump cards have time limits (although Naruto draws energy from nature rather than his own body, so he has the upside)

    Unfortunately this only seems to be act 1 on their fight.

    I just hope Sasuke knows that Itachi met up with Naruto before he flees :P
