01bleach394 Summary: Yamamoto now realizes that all of his flame attacks are useless in the face of Wonderweiss, as the flame is sealed away due to his unique abilities. Aizen soon reveals that he intentionally sacrificed everything while developing Wonderweiss, like his memories, speech, knowledge and reasoning, all for the sole purpose of creating his unique sealing ability. As he is sure that Yamamoto will not have an answer against the sealing, he prematurely claims victory for himself, as well as predicting the end of Yamamoto’s reign as captain of the Gotei 13.

Wonderweiss dashes in to attack Yamamoto a second time but now that he is aware of the arrancar’s capabilities, he knows that flames will not work this time. He instead uses the most basic of punches, which manages to create a large gaping hole on Wonderweiss’ torso. After easily blowing him away with his punch, Yamamoto takes the time to gloat a bit, saying that sealing away Ryuujinjakka is nowhere near enough to stop him. He further adds that he has been the 30th captain of the Gotei 13 for the past millennium for a reason; there hasn’t been a shinigami born in that time strong enough to topple him.

02bleach394 Yamamoto then dashes right under Aizen, and attempts a strong uppercut. Before the punch connects however, Wonderweiss recovered enough to absorb the blow in Aizen’s stead. Giving Wonderweiss some acknowledgment in that he has some very interesting abilities, Yamamoto elevates the fight to the next level as he starts to attack more seriously. Wonderweiss then reveals a new ability as he attempts to slow down Yamamoto’s furious attacks. Countless arms sprout from the back of Wonderweiss in order to stop Yamamoto’s punches. As he finally manages to subdue Yamamoto’s arms and strike him with all his might, he is shocked to find Yamamoto unharmed. Yamamoto easily rips off the arms containing him and as his final attack, he punches Wonderweiss’ torso once more with both arms, with a technique called “Soukotsu”.

03bleach394 Bass’ Thoughts: Well we didn’t get to see Yamamoto release his bankai, but we did get to see some of the reasons why he has been captain of the Gotei 13 for so long and at his age. The man is a beast! I know we’ve seen his muscular figure already in the past but it’s just insane the amount of muscle he has. One would think that he would be all saggy and shit like Hulk Hogan but yea, manga characters really do age gracefully, especially if they’re already dead (he reminds me alot of Master Roshi when he prepares for a Kame Hame Ha lol).

While WW was able to subdue his shikai flames, he wasn’t able to fully finish off the man since he still has the physical tools to beat anyone into submission. Hell, no one in the current Gotei 13 other than Kenpachi even comes close to his physique. With that amount of strength, he could take anyone on, with or without a Zanpaktou. While he is able to dish out the hurt, he also proved in this chapter that he is able to receive it as well, since WW’s thousand arms attack didn’t even slow the old man down.

The chapter was actually pretty straight forward and to tell you the truth, it was always going to play out this way. It wasn’t particularly memorable in any way other than to show us just how badass Yamamoto is. Wonderweiss will probably be on his last legs at the beginning of the next chapter but I hope he’s not the one-trick pony they were building him up to be here. Surely he has some other strengths other than flame sealing and a thousand creepy Luffy arms. Still, as much as I would like for there to be a twist in the next chapter, I really just want this fight to end so we can get back to the good stuff with Aizen. Kubo is milking it too much as it is. Show me your damn bankai already!!

04bleach394 2Shea’s Thoughts: Was it just me, or did this chapter seem extremely short? I know Kubo has been jip’ing us on pages for quite some time now, but this just seemed like we only got to see something like 15 seconds of events lol. Well it seems Yamamoto isn’t down and out yet, even though Aizen always has his uncanny ability to 1-up everyone else in existence. I’m happy to see that he is able to fight back without his zanpaktou, otherwise I had a feeling his death was impending. As Bass said we sadly didn’t get to see his Bankai, but maybe we will if/once he defeats Wonderweiss.

As this was a short chapter, as will my summary be. It was a good chapter, but as I’m really really getting fed up with them not getting on with this battle, I can’t love it as much as I would like. I’m glad we got to see Yamamoto be a badass, but that was just about the only good thing about this chapter.

  • Benny says:

I agree that there really wasn't much to this chapter other than showing how goddamn beastly this old man is. Along with Whitebeard in One Piece, this week was defenitely the week for unbelievably badass OAPs.

What I thought was most interesting in this chapter though was that he declared himself the 30th Captain Commander. I figured he wasn't the first but dayumn, this must mean the Gotei 13 must stretch so far back through time it's insane.

    • Yea, I'd love to see like a brief history lesson of all the past captains.

Much like how we know all the hokages and such. That would be a fun gaiden. Much more entertaining than the story plot right now….
My recent post Bakuman Page 76

  • The only observation I would like to make about this chapter is that Yamamoto is one sexy badass motherfucker.
