「 486 – Fists 」As Naruto and Sasuke face-off once more in a nostalgic Rasengan-Chidori moment, they were able to understand each other more than they would have had they just sat down and talk. With each of them knowing the others feelings, everything seems much more clearer now to Naruto what needs to be done. What is his decision?

Chapter 486 – Fists

Summary: The Rasengan and Chidori colliding managed to create a massive aftershock, which ended up repelling Naruto and Sasuke away from each other at breakneck speed. Before the two crashed into their surroundings, they were saved by Kakashi in Naruto’s case and Zetsu in Sasuke’s. Sasuke is shocked to see Zetsu still luking around and Zetsu replies that he had been ordered by Tobi to keep an eye on him as things get worse. Realizing that they were outnumbered, Zetsu pondered whether to call in Tobi to even out the odds. Kakashi again orders Naruto and Sakura to retreat so he can defeat Sasuke himself but Naruto ignores him, as he reveals that he is certain what he has to do now.
Back in his lair, Tobi is busy getting himself ready for war. He was in the middle of a decision as to whether to utilize the Rinnegan when Zetsu’s bumps in to inform him that Sasuke is in trouble. Back at the battle, Kakashi and Sakura are confused at what Naruto had figured out and asks him to explain. Tobi soon teleports himself into the mix by Sasuke’s side and is surprised to see Naruto and co. again face-to-face. Deeming the situation unfit, he orders his team to retreat for the time being, as he doesn’t see this battle being the opportune time to fight. Zetsu offers that he finish off the Konoha trio, as he creates countless clones of himself to convince Tobi. Tobi disagrees however, as he doesn’t think he is capable of subduing Naruto and the Nine-tails, since he isn’t much of a front-line fighter. He would much prefer to leave the job to Sasuke in the future, as it would be much more entertaining. He also orders Zetsu to check up on Kisame as well as to rejoin with his black half.
Hearing all this, Naruto steps forward to say something to Sasuke. Sasuke tells Tobi to stop as he wants to listen to what Naruto has to say. Naruto explains that after their previous clash, they both were able to understand each other more. He understands now that if the two were to face-off once more, they would both die. If Sasuke attacks Konoha, their battle is inevitable and Naruto will bear the full brunt of his rage himself, taking that burden with him and off of Kakashi and Sakura. Sasuke doesn’t understand this obsession that Naruto has with him but Naruto replies that he was his friend, therefore it was his duty to put a stop to this. The two are only able to communicate through fists, so he hopes that through the fight he will be able to relief Sasuke of his hatred like how Iruka-sensei relieved him of his. Kakashi says that it’s his job instead, since Naruto still has a dream to become Hokage. Naruto retorts by saying that he is not fit to be Hokage if he isn’t even able to save one friend. The only person to fight Sasuke is him.
My Thoughts: I can’t believe I was unable to see this coming. Since option A and B meant that one of them would die, it would only make sense that option C would mean they both would die together! Wow, with logic like that, who needs war? (I was disappointed in the answer but let’s face it, it was always the only option) Anyway joking around aside, we finally got our speech from Naruto. What I thought would happen last week finally happened now and with the development of Tobi coming to Sasuke’s rescue being on the books for weeks now, there weren’t really that many surprises to be had this chapter. It all played out according to plan but there were some interesting curveballs along the way.
With Naruto now sure that the fight in Konoha in inevitable, this creates the chance of some awesome buildup to that battle. This is sort of Naruto and Sasuke’s own version of foreshadowing. Much like how Tobi was declaring war on the rest of the Shinobi world at the Kage Summit, Naruto and Sasuke are now declaring their very own battle cry. With Naruto declaring that they will both die if they were to fight, we also have the final foreshadowing of the manga’s ending, since this is probably the only course of action (Sasuke is irredeemable at this point so death is the only escape). I hope this is not the case, cos I want to see Naruto finally be hokage but this seems to be the path the manga is going.
Anyway, this whole declaration of war between the two was definitely needed and will act as a good starting point for the new arc. With Tobi now also seeing Naruto being the final victim of Sasuke, it seems likely that this battle will happen before the third great ninja war (since Tobi needs all the bijuu’s power to create his Moon Eye plan). I doubt this scenario, since their fight is much bigger than any world war (lol) but who knows.
Of course, there’s a lot of time in between this, since we have yet to see what sort of measures the new Shinobi alliance will incorporate now that they know that they need to protect their last two remaining bijuu. Maybe Tobi will try to go for Killerbee again before Naruto. Who he uses will be the surprise, since Kisame didn’t have the best of times against him in the past. Speaking of Kisame, I wonder if he’s actually still alive. Tobi seems concern about him so that might mean that he is on his last breath or something. Thing is, the Raikage and Killerbee seemed to make sure of his death, since he was literally cut in half with their lariat. I’m sure even those two siblings aren’t dumb enough to leave anything behind and they probably did double check on Kisame’s death. I don’t think Kisame was able to escape since everything happened in a split second so maybe Tobi just isn’t aware of his demise. I’m not about to put Kishi above this surprise though so if Kisame appears once more, I won’t be shocked.
With all the rants and the speeches and the emotions in this chapter, it might be easier to overlook the fact that Tobi seemed to have acquired himself the Rinnegan. How he got around to this I don’t know but he was probably able to save up on Nagato’s eyes when he went kaput (Wtf is Konan doing!?). This means that he has a shitload of power in his hands on top of his super mangekyou sharingan (cos let’s face it, he probably has a crazy variant of one to be able to survive as long as he has). This little revelation is key and with the rinnegan, he is able to create any technique he wants so I’m guessing that it is the most important factor in creating that Moon Eye technique. My guess is that he has incorporated it into his left eye and is keeping it under wraps (much like Danzou did with his sharingan) so that Sasuke and co. won’t ask questions. Then again, he might have it in so many other places, since his body does seem to be under some sort of armor.
Oh well, speculation aside we will all learn about it soon enough. While this chapter wasn’t that great on the surface, it does give plenty to think about and now that Naruto is declaring war on Sasuke, I expect the pace of this arc to be off the roof.

I thought Sasuke had lost his mind a few chapters ago, but it looks like Naruto is even crazier than he is. It's sad when Sasuke starts asking the same question as the rest of us.
As for the Rinnegan, I don't think it's Nagato's eyes, but with Madara he can probably take anything from must about anyone. Or maybe Madara just found one in his stockpile of body parts lol.

Madara is turning out to be a bigger freak than Danzou with his huge stash of body parts. Maybe he's making a frankenstein-type monster with sharingans all over the place

The second hand market on eyes is way more active than I ever expected when I first started this manga. If I were a ninja, I would not check any of the options on the organ donor card!
I'm also not sure how well Madara's plan is going thus far, considering that Naruto and Killer Bee are both still at large and making dumb decisions.

It's pretty disgusting really, but I guess when Kishi said part 2 was gonna be darker, this was part of the plan too.

I actually quite liked parts of this chapter; the "We're both gonna die" page in particular. Then on more or less the next page we get hit with something like "We'll die together" and "We'll be able to understand each other in the next world" and regardless of whether Kishi meant these lines to come across as deep and meaningful, they just ended up sounding damn creepy.
It was even a teeny bit gay to be honest wit' ya.
Yea that little panel was awesome, especially with everyone's reaction.
But like you said, it got a little sappy towards the end and turned out to be more like an Oprah episode.

I know it's cheesy that Naruto does everything for his FRIENDSHIP with Sasuke, but I don't know… it's kind of heart-warming as well. Naruto's heart and persistence has always been endearing to me.
And sure he's still got the simple mindset of a child at times, but sometimes simplicity is the way to go: can't live together? Then we'll both just die. I'm sure it's also Naruto's way of saying that he can't live without Sasuke.

I get that feeling too, since I would do a lot for the person I consider a best friend. If my best friend went down due to a bad decision, I probably would try my best to get him on track again. Maybe not as far as Naruto, but when extrapolated the intentions are there lol.
