With the two fighting for their own needs and gains, the whole ninja world will be set alight. Other factions are beginning to make their move as the third great ninja war seems to be looming. What sort of surprises lie next?

Chapter 487 – The Battle Begins

Summary: With Naruto now intent on stopping Sasuke with all his might when they next meet, Sasuke acknowledges this fact and accepts the challenge when the time comes. Kakashi too agrees that he will leave Sasuke for Naruto to handle, but requests for Sakura to take care of his body while he tries to stop Madara with his Mangekyou before he wrecks more havoc onto the world. Surprisingly, even Kakashi’s dimension-warp attack had no effect on Madara, as he somehow manages to negate it’s effects completely. With the opening, Madara orders Akatsuki to retreat for now, with Sasuke telling Madara that they needed to have a talk about his diminishing eyesight.

Back at the lair, Sasuke informs Madara that he will take up on the offer of taking in Itachi’s eyes for his own. Madara saw this coming, as he has noticed that Sasuke’s eyesight seemed to have blurred immensely due to the constant use of Susano’o. Still, he asks why the change of heart, since the request was quite sudden. Sasuke replies that he wants to destroy Naruto with his full power and capabilities, nothing more, nothing less. Back with Team 7, Naruto suddenly faints as the effects of Sakura’s poisoned kunai that Sasuke had clipped him with had started to take effect. After being healed by Sakura, the team heads off back to the village, bringing Karin along with them to be treated.

In the Cloud Village, Team Samui celebrates the return of KillerBee and the Raikage. Surprised at Killerbee’s new weapon, the Samehada, Killerbee explains that it was the spoils of battle and that the gift from one of the Mist’s Seven Swordsman had somehow taken a liking to him and his powers. The scene changes to a burial of Kisame’s decapitated body, with Zetsu doing the burying. Shockingly, through Zetsu’s conversations with himself, it is revealed that Kisame had pulled off the amazing feat of hiding himself within Samehada in order to infiltrate the Cloud Village without a trace.

This had all been according to Madara’s plans as they had previously discussed the proceedings when Madara revealed himself to Kisame, relinquishing the Tobi mask. With white Zetsu’s unique ability of being able to recreate perfect clones of anyone, he would be able to create the perfect Kisame clone in order to fight Killerbee, acting as a diversion while Kisame stays in hiding and finds the opportunity to get into the village. As the war has been declared, Killerbee will be kept on a tight leash and it is Kisame’s job to internally find and capture him during the war. The scene soon changes once more to reveal a group of ninjas trying to run away from something. Soon though they are captured by the familiar snakes of Orochimaru, as Kabuto reveals himself once more with a fully transformed figure, itching to make his move in the war.

My Thoughts: A lot of things can happen when it doesn’t concern Sasuke and Naruto huh? This chapter has been very interesting as it manages to set up a lot of different possibilities in the war, with the most prominent being Madara’s first act of infiltrating into the enemy stronghold. Personally, I found this chapter to be quite enjoyable due to those facts and it was even good enough to make me forget about last week’s drastic dip.

With Sasuke now opting to take in Itachi’s eyes, he probably won’t have that massive handicap whenever he fights people. And also since this is Sasuke we’re talking about, I have absolutely NO DOUBT in my mind that the upgrade will carry over another unannounced and totally brand new eye spamming technique unique only to Sasuke. Maybe it’s a chakra boost, or something crazy altogether but I’m willing to bet my soul that he will have a new doujutsu come the time he faces off with Naruto again. A lot of evidence points to this as his Susano’o itself has been changing so much due to his emotional roller coaster ride so with the addition of a brand new set of eyes courtesy of the late genius Itachi, it’s bound to happen that he will have yet another unwarranted upgrade to counter Naruto’s kyuubi magic (which Naruto will hopefully be able to incorporate into his Sage techniques, since he definitely needs a boost if he wants to defeat this Super Sasuke.) Oh well, so much for Sasuke not wanting his beloved brothers eye’s to see what he is about to do to his brother’s beloved village.

As for the Kisame thing, yet another tidbit most of us bloggers failed to see coming. I remember that little talk between Kisame and Madara when he revealed himself. If I had reread Naruto again, I probably would have been able to see this coming but alas, my analytical skills don’t stretch that far back. Since Zetsu ain’t much of a fighter anyways, this little “perfect clone” technique alone probably warrants his place in Akatsuki, as the freak seems to have so many amazing techniques for espionage. Who will get to poison the little bugger in the future I don’t know but after seeing Sakura fail YET AGAIN in this chapter, I hope Zetsu will face off with her (god knows she needs to be redeemed ASAP after nearly killing Naruto off before the big fight).

With the appearance of Kabuto (or from what I’ve been calling him, Kabuchimaru), things are gonna get interesting as I don’t think that Madara has really set aside some time to consider this outside force on the war. With him set on moving on with his own plans, who knows what might happen since he seems to be in full control of Orochimaru’s snake skills. Couple that with his already potent high-jounin skills and Tsunade-like healer tricks, you’ve got one badass bespectacled mofo ready for some action (we might as well call him Doc Oc from Spidey)

Anyways, I have no clue what sort of angle the next chapter will bring, given all the revelations brought along in this one chapter. It could follow Kabuto’s path or it could even follow Kisame’s espionage mission. After seeing so much of Sasuke lately, I would kill for a little diversion so hopefully we will steer clear of Uchihas at least for one week.

  I remember that Sasuke wanted to test out some of his moves against Zetsu (back during the summit). Maybe Sasuke will set Zetsu on fire in the future…

  The chapter didn't really explain much about Kisame's mission sneaking into Kumogakure. If Kisame wanted to the the hachibi he easily could have back in the woods.

    Maybe he wants to inflict more damage on the whole cloud village as well? There could possibly be more things that Madara wants from the cloud nins that is only attainable through infiltrating the village

  You're willing to bet your soul, eh? Those are pretty high stakes there, my friend.
  …I wouldn't bet against you on that though, haha.

  Of COURSE Sasuke's gotta develop something new with his brother's eyes in his head; we've already seen his other moves. There's such a huge contrast between Sasuke and Itachi and their ability to handle the heavy emotional baggage they carry with them.

  I'm sure part of Kisame's infiltration has to do with information gathering as well. Wouldn't it just make sense to know a little more about how your opponent is going to move so you can plan for that?

    Lol my souls is pretty cheap at the moment given all the changes I've been going through lately.

    Hopefully the new Doujutsu technique isn't too hack, but then again, it wil have to be if he is to face on equal footing with a kyuubi-powered Naruto.

    Totally agree on the two being on polar opposites in terms of handling their baggage. Guess that just shows how immature Sasuke still is, especially after the revelation of his brother's true self.
