Durarara!! Episode 12

Apologies for missing the last two episodes! But in keeping up to date, I have decided to just jump to Episode 12.

12 – Being and Non-Being Mutually Exist - The secret is out. Thanks to Mikado, it is discovered that the fake “Celty” is infact Harima Mika, and in turn Celty realizes that Shinra has been keeping secrets from her all along.

Durarara!! デュラララ!!

Aww bitch, you got jacked bitch.

Short Summary: After showing off the prowess of the “Dollars” and running off Namie and her guards, Mikado is confronted by Seiji who demands “Celty”‘s return. Seiji attempts to stab Mikado, but is promptly blocked by the real Celty. She retaliates against him, and is just about to slice him with her scythe when the fake Celty appears. She demans she not hurt Seiji, and during her speech as to why; Celty and Mikado realize that it’s not really Celty’s head, but Harima Mika who has had her appearance altered. The cat is finally out of the bag, and Seiji is in complete shock. Mika mentions that the surgeon who changed her appearance told her that the head’s name is “Celty”, and this leads to Celty realizing that it must have been Shinra, and he knew about her head all along.

We see who wears the pants in this family.

She rushes home to confront him, and when she arrives he promptly explains why he did it. He says that he is afraid she will leave him if she regains her head, and he could not live with that. She is moved by his words, and explains that she is also a bit afraid of what may happen when she gets her head back. They have a romantic moment, which is some great development for their pairing.

Boy you got a purdy mouth.

We return to the incident in the street, to find Mika comforting Seiji. She takes him away, him still in shock from the recent developments. Izaya appears, and has a short discussion with Mikado. He talks about how Mikado came to tokyo to find a more interesting life, and states that Mikado will eventually be bored and will never find a truly interesting life. He is promptly chased off by Shizuo as usual, leaving Mikado to think about what he just said.

This is the skin of a killer.

The next day, things are mostly back to normal. Seiji and Mika have come to terms, and return to school together. Seiji apologizes to Mikado about the trouble, and all seems to be well in the world. We get a short montage about the love triangle between Mikado, Anri, and Kida, that is quite funny and cute.

Where's your head at?

The episode draws to a close with Izaya chatting with Namie, and carrying around Celty’s head. He discusses his beliefs about the head, and how he hopes to use Celty to get into “Valhalla”, the heaven of the Norse gods. Namie doesn’t seem to buy into it, but she is apparently leaving the head in his possession. We find out that Celty and Izaya are the other members of the Dollars chat along with Mikado, and Izaya states that Celty would never suspect that someone within her own organization would be in possession of her head.

My Thoughts: Wow, this was really a great episode. I was honestly pleased with every development that occurred. It’s really great to see the whole Seiji part of things finally come to a close for the time being. It was also really great to see the Shinra and Celty moment that we had, it really shined a bit more light on their relationship and how much they care about each other. As much as I used to prefer a pairing of Celty and Shizuo, I’m pretty happy with it going this way.

The meeting between Mikado and Izaya was also very interesting. Izaya is clearly still a mastermind of all things, above Mikado’s power of being the leader of the Dollars. He leaves him with a very interesting question, making Mikado contemplate his situation and life. Same ol’ Izaya we’ve come to know and love.

With all the other interesting developments this episode included, I can honestly say that this was just about as perfect as any episode could be. I am very excited for the next arc of the story, which we shall begin next week!

I give this episode a 5 out of 5 stars: ★★★★★

  • I totally second your thoughts about this episode. I didn’t expect this little story twist with Harima Mika being a fake Celty.

The ending was a bit confusing ‘cause it was like if the series really ended. When the preview for the next episode came in I was like ‘Thank god for a second arc’ (I think before Durarara started there was a uncertainty if it would have 12 or 24 episodes).

  • I wasn't too surprised about the Mika development, since it made no sense for Namie to put Selty's head on Mika's body. I would love it if Seiji kept calling Mika Selty, though.

  • This *was* a great episode. Not only did it give a measure of resolution to some of the issues raised early in the series, it also raised the stakes, with Izaya's crazy rant, for the second half.

  • Needed more incest. I do not approve of stalker girl.

    Also Selty is OLEV.

  • oh, I'm a little late to respond, but I was totally bawling my eyes, I could not mourn. I'm completely serious, it was too painful, I love the story, but it was only

    Too Gorey ..

For me, I have to admit that I went to see to the end.

I do not know if this is a happy or sad for me, I mean, Peace Yes at last, but two lovers dying?! Together?! It is as if the world has gone mad, who are not afraid of death! Well, actually, I think the characters were not only continued to keep the hatred between the Iga and Koga clan?! That's just .. Disappointing, if only once, due Gennosuke and Oboro, to make peace, but no.

In any case, thanks for posting your opinion on the final episode, tragic! http://cravinganime.com/
