Chapter 490 – The Truth of the Nine-tails

Summary: Madara is shocked at Kabuto’s proposal but he soon asks what he would be gaining if he allows this partnership. Kabuto counters by saying that he will allow him to use the bodies of Kakazu, Sasori, Nagato, Deidara and Itachi for battle, with Kabuto hinting that they are only some of the pawns he has at his disposal. In return however, he wants Sasuke in order to learn the truth about ninjutsu through some questions he has in mind. Madara asks what he would do if he says no, to which Kabuto summons a further body which truly shocked Madara as it seems to be a body that contains the secrets to his power. Kabuto says that he has a perfect backup plan if Madara says no and due to this mysterious summoning, Madara dully obliges with the sole condition that he hand over Sasuke at the end of the war. He would be keeping an eye on Sasuke the whole time just in case Kabuto starts to act in secret.

Deep in the forests, Anko and her team had just found the last of Kabuto’s corpses and through the use of the bakugan, ascertains that Kabuto and Madara were just ahead of them in their hideout. They decide that Kabuto might have led them to the hideout intentionally and Anko decides to retreat for now to relay the news to the Hokage.

Back at Myouboku Mountain, Naruto is still making his decision over the nine-tails key. Fukasaku tells him to hurry up but Gamatora explains that it’s not such an easy decision to make, given the complications that Naruto will have as he tries to fully control the chakra of the Kyuubi. It’s revealed that there’s two parts to the Nine-tail’s chakra, the mind and the chakra itself. As Naruto tries to draw it out, the mind of the Kyuubi will also slip through, giving him full control over Naruto’s body. If he were to fail, the Nine-tails will be reborn fully. In order to successfully accomplish the feat, Naruto would need to somehow separate the Kyuubi’s mind from the chakra through sheer strength of will, but from past experience Naruto has shown that it’s not as easy as it sounds. During his fight with Orochimaru and more recently with Pain, he had let the Kyuubi take control freely and that lead to more people getting hurt in the process. With Yondaime resealing it once more, he feels safe but even he knows that he would need the chakra in the fight against Sasuke. In the end, he finally makes up his mind with the full intent to fulfill the potential his father saw in him and agrees to take in the key along with him. With the handover completed, the next task would be the find the “octopus” from the prophecy.

Killer Bee is then seen in the next scene in the middle of the Cloud Village’s battle meeting. It is determined that a proper formation would be hard to create until they figure out where the enemy base is, so recon teams would need to be formed in order to ascertain it’s location. Little do they know that Kisame is still within their ranks and he has successfully gathered critical information regarding the village’s military strength. With the plan fully formed, the Raikage gives the command for an alliance meeting to be held in three days to combine all their plans.

My Thoughts: Damn it, yet another secret kept away from us! I really want to see what’s inside that final coffin of Kabuto’s but I think I have a few ideas about what it may be. The least possible of this would be the body of his brother, but I doubt that Madara would have that much concern over the body. With his brother lacking eyes and all (although that would leave Itachi eyeless as well so I doubt it), I doubt it would mean much to Madara. He is as soulless as they come so his younger brother’s body being dangled out like bait won’t mean much in terms of blackmail or to his secrets.

That only leaves the possibility of it being his previous or actual body. With this, it may mean that his current Tobi form is not actually his own, giving some evidence towards his ephemeral techniques of late. Maybe it acts much like Nagato where he is controlling bodies from a real body, although seeing as Kabuto successfully ripped up this body up from the grave, I highly doubt that the body is still living. This probably just means that Tobi has been leaving body after body ala Orochimaru to escape death. Given how angered and shocked he was that Kabuto had the balls to pull it off, it must be something very significant to defeating him.

Kabuto is a real schemer though, he even left a clear trail for the Konoha nins to discover Madara’s lair. Clearly thinking a couple steps ahead, this directly counters Madara’s own espionage mission with Kisame, as this will give the alliance an upperhand in terms of formulating a plan. Madara and Kisame are probably not aware of this discovery so this plays directly into Kabuto’s hands. He could kill two birds with one stone with the war starting prematurely, giving him the incentive to take in Sasuke for his own devices. I have half a mind to think that he may very well be the final villain, given how scheming he is and how much control he has of Oro’s powers. I actually think that Sasuke’s epic battle with Naruto might just be cut short by him, giving Naruto an even greater source of anger.

With this new development, a lot of possible plot angles have opened up and I can’t even begin to think where this is gonna lead. With Naruto also fully intent on taking control of the Kyuubi, it won’t be long before he finally meets up with Killerbee. With the next alliance meeting in three days, they might finally meet up there. There was a little hint on Killerbee’s part with his whole “tebayo” thing and with him determining that it wasn’t a cool thing to say, things might get edgy when they finally meet. Personally I hope they click off right from the start but I’m sure for comedic purposes this won’t be the case.

Anywho, good chapter overall, since we got to see a new development and see into Kabuto’s plans a little bit. With both sides now playing directly into Kabuto’s hand, things are about to get interesting and his next move will be massive. (And how bout that prediction eh? I sort of hinted that Kabuto might want to get his hands on Sasuke last week so I’m quite pleased to see that I was on key)

  Haha let the backstabbing begin between Kabuto and Madara. Kabuto has a leg up on Madara right now, but I'm sure Madara will get him back soon given how both of them were snickering evilly.

    Lol I hope Madara will regain the upperhand again soon. I don't really like the idea of having Oro or his disciple being the final go-to villain

  It's just the soul that's in the summon, it's not the actual dead person's body, which handily gets around the missing-eyes problem. That Kabuto's a sneaky one, and I look forward to seeing what a healer with real skills can do.

    Yea, Oro's extensive knowledge of ninjutsu couple with Tsunade-caliber healing makes for a very formidable opponent, even for Madara.

    Also, without the disadvantages of Oro (ie weak body), he could easily surpassed what Oro achieved, as long as he is able to keep ahead of Oro for control on his body.
