A New Challenger Appears!

In the sunny paradise of the infamous OC, surrounded by the crisp ocean winds and the sounds of the collapsing waves along the busy beaches, everyone seems to understand their environment well, and dress modestly to suit said environment… until you spot a small little girl decked in bows and frills, equipped with PSP in hand, walking by you under the hot California sun, secluded from the rest of the sane and civil.

This is how I am after an all-nighter. Not as cute though, unfortunately.

While I’m not the craziest person out there, I do have the problem of sticking out (or sticking under, seeing as I’m only 4’10″ and 19 years old). It might be my clothes, my height, or my weird/lame interests. But it all starts at the beginning – my name is Vivi, and I am, sadly, not a black mage from Final Fantasy IX.

The many series I keep up with vary in genre, but I do tend to gravitate towards comedy, darkness/underworld/etc., and weirdness, although my favorite series of all time is a staple Shounen Jump series, Eyeshield21 (which I’m sure many of you have heard of by now, hehe). My favorite mangaka is Natsume Ono, who has a very unique, sketchy, “indie” style and amazing story-telling skills, so you will probably see me post about her and her works! Here a trailer to House of Five Leaves, one of her two series to debut in anime-form.

On average, I watch about 15 movies a month (I keep a list of movies I watch because I’m forgetful).  While I’m not a film expert, I definitely love films, with no exception for Japanese animated films. And thus, because it’s Japanese related and they give me joy in my mundane life, I shall be spilling my heart into Sekijitsu, serving you my thoughts on Japanese-animated films such as Perfect Blue or Genius Party, the overlooked and sometimes weird movies that don’t rack in the money like Studio Ghibli films but deserve as much love and praise. Expect much of that love and praise for Satoshi Kon ;)

Outside of the Japanese-fandom, I enjoy films, TV, hanging out, video games, weird fashion, and American comic books. Films of all genres are enjoyable for me except for chick flicks/romance, although my favorites are always crime, horror, film noir, & animation. (A weird tidbit – most of my favorite movies include gangsters and Irish people.)  My top TV shows are South Park, Star Trek, How I Met Your Mother, and Community. Finally, I mostly stick to the 360.

tl;dr – My name’s Vivi, and I am extremely excited to be a part of a team full of talented writers with a passion for anime and manga. Please keep up with this beautifully formatted site (seriously, the layout is badass) and the crew, we’ll definitely keep churning out something great!
