「 492 – Greetings! 」Naruto, Yamato and co. have finally arrived safely to the Cloud island and meets up with Killer Bee for the first time. Will Bee willingly accept Naruto’s request or is he going to be jumping through hoops to get his approval?

Chapter 492 – Greetings!

Summary: After Bee saves Naruto and co. from the squid, Naruto is excited to finally meet the octopus from his prophecy and typically yells out his favorite Dattebayo catchphrase. This reminded Bee of his thought on the saying at the Cloud nin mission briefing and starts rapping whether he should accept Naruto or not. Naruto is confused by all this but soon after, a guide called Motoi comes over to help the crew through the dangerous jungle and into their lodgings. It seems that Naruto and Yamato aren’t the only ones on board, as a sick-looking Gai is helped out as he starts to regain his composure after getting seasick.

Not long after beginning their journey, a wild gorilla attacks the team but soon calms down when Bee reveals that the crew was with him. Motoi explains that Bee has tamed all the wild beasts on the island and they will be safe providing that Bee is with them at all times. He also reveals that the island has a highly responsive sensor ability which alerts him of any unwanted intruder or being. Naruto asks who Bee exactly is and is shocked when Motoi reveals him to be the jinchuuriki of the Hachibi. He then learns that it is on this island that Bee learned to befriend and control the bijuu within him. Not long after they had settled into the lodging, Naruto arrives at Bee’s door and requests for him to teach him the secret to controlling the Kyuubi. Bee is reluctant to teach him since this was actually supposed to be his vacation time but Naruto remembers that he is into rap so he tries some of his own. Impressed at Naruto’s beats, Bee teaches Naruto to greet properly through fist-bumping but Naruto accidentally lets out a rap insulting Bee. Realizing what he had done, Naruto quickly created a harem of naked ladies in order to distract Bee enough for him to forget the mistake but surprisingly, Bee simply shuts the door on Naruto.

Frustrated, Naruto then confronts Motoi to ask him why Bee isn’t willing to help him out. Naruto reasons that as a jinchuuriki, he should know the troubles Naruto had gone through and Motoi gets defensive as he doesn’t like Naruto’s brash tone against his comrade. Naruto again asks why he’s not cooperating and Motoi answers by saying that Bee is able to see people for who they are so he has a good reason not to. He then asks whether Bee had greeted Naruto yet, and Naruto explains how the two had bumped fists. Realizing that Bee had accepted him, Motoi then agrees to bring Naruto to Bee’s training ground, with Yamato following close by to keep the kyuubi in check. The trio reach a waterfall, where Bee had taken the first step towards taming the beast. Known as the Falls of Truth, Motoi orders Naruto to sit down in a dry spot right in front of the waterfall and close his eyes to see who he really is inside. To his surprise, not long after another Naruto appears out of the waterfall, revealed to be an evil copy of himself.

My Thoughts: So much for having Naruto or Bee using Kisame as the victim of their tag-team attacks. With the appearance of Gai (which was a complete surprise since it came out of nowhere), it seems more than likely that he will be the one to finally keep Kisame in check. After their epic battles in the past, I’m sure Kisame would make sure of it that he will be the one to fall first, seeing as how Gai managed to defeat his clone, as well as provoke him enough by not remembering him after their first fight pre-timeskip. I did mention that Bee would only be the appropriate opponent for him if Gai’s not around but since Gai made the trip as well, it’s pretty much a done deal. Let’s hope there’s some twists in the way (wouldn’t it be awesome if Gai got killed and Naruto went super saiyan through kyuubi mode and avenged him ala Goku against Freeza? Ok maybe not. Would probably suit Rock Lee better)

Anyways, it seems like Bee and Naruto’s meeting wasn’t as mind-numbingly explosive as I would have hoped, since Bee actually seemed quite mature and calm throughout the whole ordeal. I was surprised at how he closed the door on Naruto after teaching him his proper way of greeting. Perhaps Naruto’s mouth got the better of him and I don’t think the harem helped the matter one bit. Bee probably saw into Naruto’s soul at that moment (which explains Motoi’s remark) and sees that he hasn’t cleansed his mind enough to withstand the Kyuubi’s temptations yet. Actually, that brings back the explanation we got from Myouboku mountain about how difficult it is to control the bijuu. Since Naruto will need to draw the kyuubi’s chakra out, the evil will undoubtedly seep through so this waterfall process of eliminating the evil inside will probably be key to separating the mind while drawing the Kyuubi’s chakra. Once Naruto clears this obstacle, I’m pretty sure Bee will be able to help him out. This is probably just the initiation test before the real deal, much like what Motoi said about the steps Bee had to go through.

Another thing of interest was the beasts that Bee was able to tame on the island. I can’t shake the feeling that this will play a major role in the future, as I doubt something like this is revealed just to fill up pages. What I can see happening is that as Bee is in deep trouble after being sucker-punched by Kisame/Samehada, the beasts will eventually help them out to annihilate Kisame. This is most likely done after intense battles with Naruto and co. of course but I think the beast will be key to finally shutting Kisame up for good. Now, let’s see how Naruto copes with his inner demons. Hopefully he’ll remember what he learned at Myouboku, otherwise he’ll be having massive trouble at the first step.

      I stopped reading the manga after Hinata & Neji's chunin exam fight xP I don't remember why I stopped though.

  Killer Bee won't be teaching Naruto anything until Naruto has beaten him in a rap battle… which shouldn't be all that hard actually given Killer Bee's need to look at his rhyme book.

  I'm a little intrigued by this "Evil Naruto" since, for the most part, Naruto isn't the least bit evil. Mischievous and rash, yes, but he's pretty much always been portrayed as a good person.
