Giant Killing 9
When I wrote my post last week for Giant Killing I didn’t realize that it was going to be 26 episodes. After finishing it I had to go back and change things and then proceeded to edit the first post. I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing. Giant Killing seems like it could turn bad at any time, but 26 episodes does give Tatsumi more time to get together with Katsura so that should be fine. However this does mean that about six episodes will happen while the World Cup is on, so I’m going to apologize now for those posts where I imagine I will talk almost entirely about the World Cup.
Speaking of the World Cup; North Korea got thrown in with the Ivory Coast, Brazil and Portugal, they have my condolences. Also, could France have gotten an easier group? My blood boils at the thought that Ireland should have been in that group. I am however looking forward to when Slovenia beats England to qualify top of the group with England in second, because then England will have to face Germany. And yes, I don’t think that Australia, Serbia or Ghana could take first place in that group away from Germany, that’s like Greece winning the Euro Cup……….
This episode of Giant Killing had a lot of what the last episode had. To start off, guess what? They lost again. That’s five consecutive losses; needless to say the fans are pissed. Well, I call them “fans” but in reality they are a regime of fanatics who brainlessly follow the orders of a strange looking man, in other words, they’re Nazis. I really enjoyed when the older fans (Shige and such) questioned the kind of cheering that the skulls have implemented. The skulls have been on my nerves for a while, but this episode really took the cake.
I hope that Shige and the gang can sort out the fans and get them to actually cheer, rather than just scream “ETU” all day. Also, the fans standing in front of the bus after the game and calling Tatsumi out was one of the most childish things I’ve seen yet in this show, and this show has Kuroda in it. I suppose now that Kuro is a team-playing douche they need someone to take the mantle of most annoying character. I loved the flashback when Shige heckled Gotou when he was a player, which really made me laugh. I like Gotou a lot; he’s a great character, almost as good as the Chairman: “I am the Chairman here, not you! You don’t have the power to fire anybody!”
I originally thought that those three Brazilian players were going to be jerks or something, but seeing them just having fun outside of the stadium playing with some kids ball and buying their own jerseys was great fun. They obviously follow Tatsumi’s thinking when it comes to football; they just want to have a good time. Even though they are three quality players I think that they will lose this match because of the manager, which is the best way to culminate all that Tatsumi has worked for, and to prove that even the best players can lose because of bad managers. Also, those three are giant Bakas.
We got to see some more depth to Katsura this episode. While she and some other reporters think that her article on Tatsumi was awful, both the viewer and one (nameless?) photographer know that she is right. It was also hinted that she might actually be really rich, in which case her motives for becoming a freelance journalist are pretty interesting. My hopes are that she’s had a crush on Tatsumi since he was playing, why else would she bet her “career” on following him. Since she is very clearly a tsundere I am hoping for some comedy to come out of her interaction with Tatsumi, whenever the next time they talk is. She needs to be careful though, since Gotou is quickly forming the strongest of bromances with Tatsumi.
YOSH! So hopefully the TENTH episode of Giant Killing will finally have them winning a game. It looks as though Tsubaki is about to get over himself after a good man to man with Murakoshi. Mista ETU told him what was up and that people’s heads aren’t supposed to be up their ass. I imagine Tsubaki will get called up to the nationals by the end of the season, his talent is more than enough, he just needs to believe in himself, not the him that believes in Kamina, but the him that believes in himself. Last thing, Fall Season looks bomb! That is all.
