Kaichou wa Maid-sama! 11
Is it just me or is this show more about stalking than it is about them maids? Then again, it’s hard to specify what the exact premise of the show is at this point. Sure, it’s light and fluffy shoujo, but the whole “tough taichou secretly working as a maid” gimmick can only spawn so many story lines; this makes me wonder how the manga still manages to keep things fresh, as the anime is starting to falter in terms of plot and development. If the similarities with Kare Kano get any stronger, I suppose adding a whole bunch of new characters and developing their side stories is possible, but for now I’m content to just sit back and see how things unfold. If they ever do. Plot development was quite lacking this week.

Misaki’s family is so irresistibly cute. It’s the little things, really; small details, like seeing how Misaki and Suzuna scribble their heights on the doorframe through the years (I’m sure many of you have done the same thing), the unstable floorboards, the child hood habit of cutting your apples to make them look like rabbits. I could go on about how Misaki has to deal with a lot of It’s also fun to see the contrast between their personalities- Misa’s mom is, oddly, the most naïve of the three- her voice actress portrayed her somewhat oblivious sweet attitude perfectly. Perhaps it’s a result of how each of them are coping with their dad walking out on the family. While Suzuna is more withdrawn and quiet (but still snarky), Misaki seems to have taken the bitter raging approach with her man-hating tendencies. All in all, I’m happy to see the family get more screen time; it’s an interesting choice seeing as how they appear much later in the manga- but a nice choice all the same.
If there’s one thing that I think Maid-sama seems to lack, it’s a well-defined cast; it’s hard to decide just how deep or one-dimensional the supporting characters are or should be. Sakura and Shizuno are a bit too bland to really care about- they seem more like obligatory sidekicks for Misaki- but they’ve been so heavily featured these past few episodes that no one else is really stepping up to the something plate. I can’t imagine any depth being explored with them, or any plausible back-stories, but I suppose it could happen… I can’t say I really want to learn more about them, though. Other than that, there’s the comic relief baka trio and various nameless classmates that Misa bosses around, and those students at Seika who seem to have fulfilled their purpose and vanished off the face of the earth. (Actually, I have a feeling we’ll probably be seeing them again, for whatever random plot-related reason.)

We didn’t even have to wait until the end of the episode to see Misaki as red as a tomato around Usui, and there was plenty of interaction (and animosity) between the two, which was fun to watch, as usual. I find all the exchanges between the characters amusing, but theirs is still the centerpiece of the show- and it seems as though Misaki can’t keep denying that she cares about him. That was obviously jealousy demonstrated in that restaurant- and she didn’t throw out his address after all.

'Twas nice while it lasted.
While the whole stalking episode didn’t really do much for me, there were at least some redeeming factors near the end. And that was, Usui taking in a stray cat (awwwww) and displaying some megane for about three whole seconds, which beats emo/shirtless/trapped in a jail (…?) Usui any day.
It also seems like Kaichou wa Maid-sama! will have a 23-26 episode run, with Episode 14 announced already. Any thoughts on this? I think that they couldn’t really do much with two more episodes, so it makes sense with the pacing we’ve seen so far. I’m not really sure that ten more episodes could keep me interested, though, but I still want to see how it all ends.

This show really started well but it’s on the spiral down right now and except for the main pair, no other character has really shone through. Aoi can be an exception. J.C.Staff better show their mettle if they are planning 20+ episodes.
PS: The megane Usui had more . Bishonen points than his usual self. xD

stalking is awesome.
A stalking episode seems to start becoming as obligatory as a swimsuit episode.

The cat was the worst thing about this epi, if you ask me, doing that to Usui’s beautiful bishie face grr. At least s/he’s leanred to like him a bit more by the time we get to epi 19. Although that doesn’t explain his very different reaction to Misaki in the latter epi. Unless cat’s are more forgetful and stupid than I thought they were. Hmm.
