Giant Killing 13
Well done to Tsubaki, Gino and Kuroda for scoring two goals and holding Nagoya to a 2-0 victory! I would give Tsubaki his cheer, but I’ve tried that and it shows up weird in the post preview, so I’ll hold myself back. I must admit that I thought Nagoya would get one goal back, but you’ve got to hand it to Gino for being able to snipe one in from beyond the box in what must have been stoppage time. If only Japan themselves could have done the same; I was heartbroken after watching that match for over two hours. I couldn’t have cared less at England being knocked out by a vastly superior team. My brother has been defending them; saying that if that goal had counted that the game would have been different. I agree, except Germany would have still won. At the end of the day the “golden age” of English players never did anything and I never would have wanted those sorts of players to win the World Cup anyway. Gerard is a different story however.
Like I said before, I’ve been supporting Japan for a decent amount of time now; I was jumping up and down after those two free kick goals against Denmark. Honda and Endo put two great goals away in that game. I think the match that I’m looking forward to the most is Uruguay and Ghana as they are the two dark horses of the quarter finals. Brazil and Netherlands is the powerhouse match up along with Germany and Argentina. I think Brazil will beat the Netherlands based off Holland’s eternal habit of under achieving in the knock-out stages of tournaments. I think Germany will beat Argentina because Germany has an all-round strong team; Argentina on the other hand has a weaker defence, waiting to be exploited by Germany’s incredibly young team.
Now, Mexico and Argentina was a game that would have been drastically different if it wasn’t for that terrible offside call, or lack thereof. Mexico was completely out of it after that and it’s unfortunate that they couldn’t get back into it. I predicted that Portugal would beat Spain if they scored a goal at all; and my prediction came true, they didn’t because they didn’t. Spain did not look like a team that could beat the winner from Germany and Argentina though. The goal they did score was a lucky rebound; not the kind of play we’ve come to expect from the Spanish. I believe that at this rate the final is going to be Brazil and Germany; though the best case scenario for me would be a Dutch on Deutsch finale. Seeing those two play each other would be phenomenal and it would be great to see Germany win their first World Cup as a unified nation.
Returning to ETU, Tsubaki is turning into the player that we all knew he could be. He was the most depressed person on the pitch these last few games but Tatsumi’s goal is finally coming to fruition; to play football with a smile on your face, and boy did Dai-chan have one on his face after he scored that goal. He then went on to accidently set-up Gino for a curler from outside the box. This ETU team is finally becoming the team that we can all wear the colours of. The next episode looks like a training episode and it will be interesting to see what comes up; at the moment a few of the starting line-up aren’t shown much so it will be great to see the full team in detail. After all, we need to believe in every member of the team in order to fly our Flags; you see what I did there?
I liked Tatsumi’s stare back at Fuwa after the game; he made sure he knew he lost and warned him that if he doesn’t accept that it’s going to happen again and again. If this show follows the plot Flags (AGAIN!) of most sports manga/anime, then Nagoya is the team that will be crushed horribly by whoever the new big dogs will be. With the summer season approaching very fast and two of my favourite Shaft shows finished (for now!) the last posts of Tatami Galaxy and Five Leaves will come (hopefully) at the end of the week as I want to be able to write the first High School of the Dead post soon after it is released. The schedule for the season shows HSotD to be airing on Monday nights Japan time, so it looks as though it will join Bleach on my Tuesday watch list. I’m also going to be covering one other new show so you can look forward to that next week too.

Dear Genri Sensei, stop advertising yourself will you? It's almost like in-game adverts. =P
This was EPIC WIN episode but it would've been nice if 10 minutes were not wasted in flashbacks and old footage.
