Amagami SS 1
With the spring season now officially behind us (well except for a few stragglers *cough*Giant Killing*cough*) we can move forward to the rather barren summer season. There were two shows that I was looking forward to most this season; High School of the Dead and Amagami SS. Well, I’m interested in other shows as well but Amagami took second place because it’s a romance series that has a manga that I really like; though there are only three chapters of it out. Also, anyone who knows me knows that I go for animes with dark haired heroines; and I have the pick of the litter here with six relatively dark haired heroines. However, I must be masochistic or at least have some M traits, since for some silly reason I’ve picked a show that is going to last twenty six episodes. Also I don’t yet know how long High School of the Dead is going to last.
Genres: Romance, Drama, Slice-of-LifeThemes: Recurring Love, ChristmasNumber of episodes: 24
On with the show! We start with Junichi; our protagonist who has a bit of a torauma. He was stood up by a girl two years prior to the series around Christmas, and it seems that he hasn’t been able to get over it. Considering how hung up he was on the torauma I was very worried that I would hate him by the end of the episode, but he toughened up and even confessed! Move over Bakemonogatari, we have a new quick draw in town. That may be the fastest confession I have ever seen in an anime that was serious, I may need to think about some others though. The format of the show is to give each heroine four episodes which would equal twenty four, however MAL says that it will be a twenty six episode series so I assume that a couple of the heroines will get an extra episode. That or the sister and teacher will each get an episode. Considering the Kimikiss manga which has extra chapters for the little sister and teacher characters, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them do that.
The little sister Miya is such a moe imouto. It doesn’t help that she is voiced by Asumi Kana who just got off voicing Poplar-chan in Working!! Junichi is voiced by Maeno Tomoaki who is going to have to work VERY hard in order to make me forgive him for White Album, since I hated his guts in that. He was inches away from getting a School Days ending in that show. I am going to have to get used to Konno Hiromi voicing Sae, it seems that Hiromi has only ever voiced things that can be characterized as either lolis or small animals, though I did enjoy her in Lucky Star. Well, I should say that I ONLY enjoyed her in Lucky Star. It’s nice to see Himawari-chan and C.C. in this anime as well; so far though I haven’t been able to recognize any seiyuu by their voice, well, except for Poplar!
Thinking about it now it seems more likely that one of the extra episodes will be a recap half way through the season. I hated it when Kimi ni Todoke did it, and I’ll hate it in this show as well. Going into this anime my favourite character is Nanasaki (the one with the short black hair) simply because she’s the only heroine in my favourite Amagami manga. However I am also very fond of Ayatsuji, Morishima and Tanamachi. Needless to say I am very happy that the anime started out with one of my preferred heroines. I am not the best judge of animation quality; however I have found the animation to be very good, both in terms of lighting and the character models. I especially like Morishima’s blue eyes; I don’t know what it is about them but it’s the shade or something.
Speaking of Haruka, she’s a very redundant person. She’s constantly saying that Junichi is a nice person (which he is) but says it so much that it might as well be her catchphrase. She seems like she might have some torauma herself, and that might be why she keeps leading Junichi along on a leash. Her habit of borrowing loads of cute dog books from the library was a little adorable, but I get the feeling that she would be the S to his M. The way she jumped on his back ready to ride him around like a horse definitely made me think that she likes messing with people. Also it seems weird that she would trust him so much based on a single meeting just by him being nice, without even knowing his name. Haruka definitely gives off the biggest “Ojou-sama” impression of the characters so far. I also have a feeling that she already likes Junichi and is simply trying to mold him into a great man.
Miya is definitely a bro-con with her Nii-nii antics. She also got completely jealous after seeing her brother moeing over Haruka the same way I moe over Maaya-chan. My favourite part of the episode was the closet galaxy (see what I did there?) that Junichi has going on. I also used to sleep mostly in a closet so I can understand the feeling of enclosing yourself off from everything, especially in your own universe. It looks as though each heroine will have her own ending, which is nice considering that it looks as though the opening won’t change. Speaking of the opening I thought it was awful, nothing great about the animation and the song was worse than meh. However even with that I really like this show so far and hope it lives up to my expectations. Also if they go in order of the opening then Ayatsuji will be last.
EDIT: MAL has recently changed their episode list to twenty four, ANN still lists thirteen….so who knows, I’ll go with MAL. Re-writing this post at this point is silly so I’ll leave the stuff about it being twenty six episodes in.

This post wasn't even here earlier today!! How do you just write these?? Ugh!!
Mint-chan, because he's a demon typing away like a maniac!
Btw, MAL changed their minds again. The episode number is 24 now and HotD has 12 according to ANN.
I didn't like Haruka as a character because she just led him on and then bam! Ok byee! (Sure, there can be torauma in her case too). I would look forward to Ayatsuji and Nanasaki arcs as I liked them from get go.
Visual Novel references with more visual novel references referencing to an anime based off from a visual novel.. Great references that really open my mind in a whole new stretch when it comes to the seiyuus of this series especially the White Album reference with the protagonist…
I thought this year of anime really hit well with me in general in giving what I really want. That of which is a visual novel adaptation of a PS2 game that seems promising while I glanced upon the multiple girls of simplistic hair styles. This series has caught my eye for the Summer season along with the much anticipated High School of the Dead.
True enough the first episode did what it did! I liked the protagonist in that they opened that this guy is of love lost and needs two years of recuperating himself. And the sempai love interest that is of this arc in where it's just that person that is "unreachable" I really like this setup in who's going to confess, the characters that is represented not only as an introduction to this arc but an introduction of this series alone. A promising first episode and I think I now know where to site an opinion when it comes to these things..
hahaha brilliant minds think alike – Amagami SS and Highschool of the Dead are actually the two only worthwhile shows that I think this season is going to be… well there are 6 heroines and 4 episodes per each so I think it always was going to be 24 + an extra something.
On the Haruka-side of things, I'm glad that she's the first arc which probably means that Junichi isn't anywhere going to end up with her. My hope is that he goes with his childhood friend or the middle school friend. My personal fave would have to be Ai…. but yeah… I didn't make this anime.
Maybe it'll be the classroom rep… perhaps that's why she's the cover girl for the anime series.
I'm pretty sure he will end up with all of them, and then the anime will just reset. One anime, six heroines, one Christmas to win them all.
It will be interesting to find out what they'll do with those two extra episodes, though I don't think we have to be fearful of a recap episode since the storyline resets don't provide one big narrative to make a recap out of. The sidestory episodes for Miya and Takahashi-sensei would be great to see as well. Or maybe one or two arcs will just run long. But after seeing plenty of series become crunched for time at the end, it's good to know that they've got two episodes of breathing space built into the show.
As Kyokai said MAL has changed their page to list 24 episodes instead of 26. Looks as though all our speculating over the extra two episodes was for nothing……………maybe OVA's afterwards for teacher arc? By the way if you like this anime and this style (and if you haven't already) go and read Kimikiss: Various Heroines, it is basically the same story telling style but is complete so you can see every heroine.
Yeah, I've read two of them so far (Mao and Eriko) and have the Asuka one. The Mao one was sweet, but it was really weird seeing Koichi with Eriko, he just wasn't the match for her that Kazuki was. I think they made an excellent decision to split the basic male protagonist from the game into two characters with different personalities (or three if you count their movie club friend whose name escapes me at the moment. He had his own, smaller sort of love triangle going on in the margins.)
I'm glad to see the show not loaded with the usual ecchi moments. The characters are soft to my eyes at least… and are somewhat believable. Morishima is quite the odd character though; hopefully she has some dramatic past.
If anything, I will remember that Tachibana has that awesome planetarium and was brave enough to confess on the first episode.
Hm…my first impression of the episode was really bad. I mean, really: cliche and typical. *YAWN*
Second viewing wasn't that bad. I guess I'll be following this one after all…
I definitely agree with the blue eyes. Somehow, they're just…enticing…and attractive…which is weird, since I usually am not quite that fond of girls in anime. XD
I'd say that Haruka would actually be the M. She's riding him, AND she's playing him like a fool, so she fits the role perfectly.
i never really got white album but this seems okay
