Ookami-san 1
Out of the impressively underwhelming summer season comes Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi, with a name that is really long and annoying to type out. That’s stating the obvious, and I would apologize if that narrator wasn’t doing the same thing. For. The. Entire. Show. Ookami-san seems like a pretty typical high school romance/comedy, although the narrator’s grating commentary impeded some of that fun factor. (For me, at least. It seems to be a case of love it or hate it so far.)

OP: I honestly listened to this once and didn’t remember a single bit of the melody afterwards, and I hope that doesn’t mean the actual show will be as forgettable! All the montages were pretty cute (I guess the long title lets them get all the colors of the rainbow in the logo) and I already want to know more about the supporting cast, especially how they might relate to the fairy tale/folklore themes that this show parodies.

Genre: Romance, comedy, school life, parodies
Studio: J.C. Staff
Number of episodes: 13
It makes me wonder how far Ryoushi is going to get in life if he’s so scared of people staring at him. I do appreciate that they gave their male lead a defining trait instead of letting him be a boring guy with no traits to speak of, but I can’t say that his wimpyness was fun to watch… As long as they don’t overdo it! It does leave some room for character development, though, and the contrast between him and Ookami herself will provide some interesting relationship dynamics.
I decided to pick this up for a few reasons, one being the character designs (and the shiny animation doesn’t disappoint; it reminds me a lot of Railgun). Although no one is particularly interesting personality-wise so far, there were a lot of introductions to make in one episode and I’ll be looking forward to seeing what they’re like in future episodes. They’re diverse enough that anyone can spot an archetype that appeals to them, whether it’s the tough tsundere, cute little girl, busty maid, meganekko, or… um… crazy witch-person. I also really love fairy tales, so I can’t wait to see where they take that idea. It seems like there might be very episodic plots, or some sort of case-of-the-week, but as long as the humor is as good as the last few minutes of this episode, this could be a lot of fun.

I thought this was nicely done. I’ve seen a lot of criticism, but to me it worked as a first episode. I suspect there is more story coming than might be expected from this set up. For one thing, I believe this anime was based on a light-novel, not a manga. If it had been a story from a manga, we might expect all the episodes to be structured similarly (case of the week), but in a light-novel, this would just be the introductory chapter. Well, that is just speculation.

I agree about the OP. It’s pretty forgettable.

If there’s one thing about JC Staff, their shows are almost always fun to watch, even the ones that turn out to be not so good.
I love how light and fluffy it is – not to overwhelming – like a fling or a light breeze of summer air~

I really wish it can stay like this but still have a good plot – it seems that the JC staff could possibly pull it off.
Somehow this reminds me of Shugo Chara but without all of the unbearably large amount of moe-moe ness and charas (Ryouku’s sidekick reminds me of Dia)
And you’re right, it is fun to see the male main character wimp out like that – but that could possibly wear out and get boring as it gets overused…but we’ll just wait and see

One of the few shows I looked forward to this season, so I’m glad that it delivered.
Enjoyed the characters, good comedy and the premise is interesting.
I wish that they could have gotten another voice actor for the narrative though, I found her voice as Kuroko kind of annoying aswell. +_+

@Joojoobees: Hmm, guess we’ll have to wait until next week to know for sure. I agree, I really liked this as an intro episode, and I hope that the story is as fun~
@Yi: Yeah, that was a bit of a let-down. At least the montages were cute!
@RP: True, true. But I’ll hope that this turns out decent at least.
@Starburst-chan: I could use a light breezy show how like this! Need to remain optimistic, and hopefully they won’t overuse Ryoushi’s phobias, because the heat makes me cranky and easily annoyed. (Gah, don’t remind me of how far Shugo Chara has fallen…).
@Fabrice: Can’t agree more– everything was mostly average, but that’s not such a bad thing. I’ll try to tolerate the narrator, too. >.<
Not so bad when it comes to the Summer line-up. Will definitely watch two more episodes to see what happens with Taiga look-alike and the scopophobic.
