Amagami SS 2

"Gudo!"

Haruka seems to be the master of engrish in this show. Every show needs a master of engrish, because every time an engrish word is spoken it transfers and increases the power of one person; the master of engrish, TK. Now if I suggested to you a show that was twenty-four episodes and had six heroines, all of which would fall in love with the main character during their four episode arcs before moving on to the next heroine, you would probably think it was a decent idea. Now if I suggested that the main character in said show was TK; what would you say to that? Just imagine the trials of a man who can only speak in engrish one-liners, and the women who persevere and love him regardless. It would win awards. I should note that saying this does not mean I have a problem with Junichi, in fact I quite like Junichi. As far as romance protagonists go he is between Ryuuji and Tomoya.

"Iesu!"

Recently it was announced that there would be six OVA episodes of Amagami SS that were released with the blu-ray sets. Immediately I realized that this meant my already long twenty-four episode show just shot up to thirty. It felt like I was watching Yu-Gi-Oh and Yugi just trolled me by playing a trap card that added six hundred points to his monsters attack and now it has three thousand. Oh well, it’s nowhere near as bad as Kimi no Iru Machi which just won’t fucking end. Just like with Suzuka, Seo Kouji is showing that he is the master of drawing out romances to ridiculous lengths and making sure that the main heroine annoys me to all hell before finally giving the main character what he wants. I can’t believe he tricked me again, I think that a line from Macbeth is appropriate for this dilemma: “I am in blood/Stepped in so far that, should I wade no more,/Returning were as tedious as go o’er.”

"Come on, come on!"

Now that I think about it, that was a really obscure reference to make considering Macbeth is quite literally the ultimate Shakespearian example of receding romance; if you get that reference eat a cookie. Something that impressed me last episode and continues to impress me this episode is the animation, especially the lighting. It is interesting how easy it is to set a good tone just by having dusk in the background; giant windows also help. But even down to Haruka lying on that couch in the dark, the light from the lamp was well enough animated that the entire mood of that scene became very soft. This is something that Shiki also does very well; the music and atmosphere in that show are phenomenal. Something that Amagami SS does very well though that I think Shiki does not is character models. I love the look of the characters here; Shiki on the other hand is maybe a bit too…..sharp.

"Nisu!"

Now while it might not be love yet we certainly know that Haruka likes Junichi. I think the most ridiculous part of this episode was Haruka dragging Junichi all the way to the pool only to show off her body and then get them both kicked out. What good would Junichi do being at the pool? Moral support? He still had a garbage bin in his arms. Something that we know about Haruka is that she is indecisive when it comes to the kind of guy that she likes and she is also known to have moved from club to club though never staying with any of them. I think this means that she doesn’t know what she wants and needs someone to rely on, someone that can be a permanent column of support that won’t change, a job that Hibiki probably fills. Someone as bold as Junichi is definitely perfect for the job, but he needs to work on his fear of regret. Luckily within two episodes he has improved enough to win Haruka’s affections so I don’t see this being a problem.

"GO! GO! GO!"

While it is still undecided whether Miya is a bro-con or not, something that is clear is that she likes her brother enough to be jealous when he concentrates all his attention on one person. Junichi needs to work on combining his attitude when he’s with Haruka and when he’s with anyone else. The attitude that annoys Miya will only end up annoying others as well. I was happy to see Ai in this episode, considering that she’s my favourite I was also happy to hear that her voice was pretty much what I thought it would be. Something that continues to make me laugh is how the best friend calls Junichi “Taichou”. It is fitting that the next episode is called “Jealousy” since the drama that I figured would happen in this arc would have to do with Haruka getting needy, since she does seem to be a handful. I’ve forgotten just how many shows A.I.C. is doing this season but I remember it being most of them, hopefully they can keep up this quality in the episodes to come.

  • At least they're not giving the sister an arc. That would be f*ed up pretty bad… eh, I'm waiting for Tauru's arc.

    Gotta say nice blog Ad…Flags. I must say the whole scene with on the couch and with the lamp I am with you 100% I'm with you 100% with pretty much everything you said actually lol except I still like Ryuuji more but that could change by the end of the series and probably will.

  • The episode pretty interesting.

    But it seems that the story has gone a little bit too fast?

    It's like as if it happened at episode 6+ or something.

      That's because each girl basically gets her own four episode arc, and after that finishes the world resets and Junichi goes after another girl before the same Christmas. That's how the manga works at least and seems like is how the anime is going to work too.

    Haruka mostly pissed me off this episode, such a tease. But of course, she would be off in 2 episodes so I'm good.

  • Miya definitely doesn't seem like a bro-con quite yet. Little sisters can be protective/jealous like that. I have one, and at least when I was in high school, she was pretty much like that.
