Seikimatsu Occult Academy 2

I didn't want to see it, but I did... (Thanks Flags for pointing it out ಠ_ಠ)

There’s not much action in this episode, probably to make-up for the lack of explanations in the first episode, but still fun. Also, if you’re easily startled by sudden, pop-up scenes, be warned while watching, because I was honestly startled thanks to made-to-scare sound effects. While of course Occult Academy isn’t at a Monster or Le Portrait de Petit Cossettelevel of creepiness, this episode has brought enough of the occult (and comedy) for supernatural fans. I’m sure Haruhi fans will keep up with this series, too – aliens, time-travelers, and espers?! Definitely my kind of show!

I need to get myself more bangles...

The inevitable encounter with the naked, poorly endowed (that’s probably why Maya was so shocked…) Uchida Fumiaki, aka #6 or Abe Minoru, was amusing, seeing as Maya reacted much differently than I expected – she does have a modest girlish side, it seems. This scene when #6 (which is what I’ll be calling him, because it reminds me of Kids Next Doorhaha) it left me curious as to how that ordeal was solved… did she help him without bothering to ask him what the heck he was or just left him there? How did he land on his back…? Anyway, it’s surprising she didn’t use her heels to kick him in the nuts for indecency. Her personality is very abusive, so I imagine her beating the crap out of Fumiaki to be a common gag in later episodes – which is fine, but not the kind of humor I’m impressed by.

Only if kids in the US could wear cute uniforms like this... & bend spoons with their minds...

The premise of this series is now not to destroy the school – which disappointed me a bit, seeing as destroying schools is my dream – but to find and destroy the key. While there are hundreds of films, comics, etc. with similar plots, it doesn’t bother me the slightest bit. It makes perfect sense and has the plot moving along nicely. The sudden introduction of the aliens, while sudden and serious, was quite hilarious to me, as aliens were quite random, as I was expecting something more haunting… It looks as though we won’t see them too often, though, seeing as they’re in 2012 when the world is supposedly supposed to end and whatnot. Moreover, it was a nice way to pair up Maya & #6 into an interesting couple who have already seen each other mostly naked. Talk about jumping the gun…

The commander... ಠ_ಠ

The post-shower scene was probably my favorite of the episode, because I can’t help but wonder and be amused about how her towel stays on for the whole ordeal – albeit most straight men watching were probably disappointed it didn’t fall at some point. Also, the random shining light from her father’s book was quite curious. It was probably enchanted with some spell by her father, but still oddly convenient… I’m sweating the small stuff, however, so on the bright side, with this book we should expect different, more supernatural ways for Maya to kick ass as oppose to her usual physical attacks. #6 hasn’t proven to be as hardcore as he overconfidently introduced himself to be back in 2012, but uselessness would be a more interesting dynamic to the Maya-#6 duo than another badass pairing with a badass. I can’t help but feel he’ll pull something crazy out of his ass later in the series aside from bending a spoon, but that would be boring.

Assuming you shower, which way do you face: towards the shower or away from it?

The rest of the characters haven’t appeared much in this episode, aside from “obvious deceiving-character is obvious” vice-principal whatsherface, but the short appearances of JK (also known as “Porco Rosso” lol) & Smile (non-gay name for a guy, really…) and Ami (childhood friend) & Naruse (typical meganekko) served as a nice breakaway from the two main characters. Although so far they lack the depth in personality that Maya possesses, they at least have the potential for assistance in finding the supernatural and, of course, providing gags throughout the next 11 episodes. Most of the characters are also backed by fairly recognizable voice actors/actresses, although I’m not a big expert on the subject in all honesty. Maya’s VA, Hikasa Yoko, does a great job as the cold and brash Maya, which makes me forget this is Mio’s VA (K-On!). So far, Maya is the only character who is even remotely interesting and whose name I actually bother to remember (the others I had to look up), with JK & Smile as far-behind runner-ups, merely for the sake of humor. Occult Academy churned up another good episode – once again, nothing too bad to complain about, so hopefully it’s safe to say I could get my hopes up for the next episode and the series as a whole.

Saying that I pointed out the shadow of the penis makes me sound creepier than I am. Also I is in your post editing while you sleeeeeeeeeeeeeep…

  • I really enjoyed this episode. I felt that the story went in a completely different direction which was a nice surprise. Time travel and aliens…. who would have though…! o_O

    • Vivi says:

Yeah, it was a weird mix of Terminator and War of the Worlds lol

  • This was another good episode and I liked the funny dominatrix-slave relationship between Maya and Fumiaki.

Btw, don't people usually shower shown in the picture? S_S

  • I simply love all the different faces Maya makes, she is awesome.

And we got to meet the main male character, a time agent who seems a bit weak and with a strange personality.

I like the build up of the episodes, and there also seems to be a corruption plot besides the time traveling and occult story.

This is the first time i heard Nostradamus mentioned in a Anime which could make it very interesting.

Wether you agree with his prophesies or not it does seem some of them where almost true.

And his views where pretty interesting tho based on the technology at his time, which is probably the reason some of his predictions appear to have come true.

It was predictable in a way after all.

This Anime is getting very interesting and i am happy that i picket it up.
