High School of the Dead 3

Great 'Shaun of the Dead' reference is great.

Ladies and gentleman; Elvis has left the building. In the manga they had left the high school by the second chapter; considering that extension and another new ending song I think I’m going to be singing the ‘Owari’ Blues come Fall Season. Well, thankfully Fall Season looks epic so it’s not as though I won’t have a ton of great stuff not to watch when school starts back up. Something I just noticed is that I apparently don’t spell ‘ton’ correctly, for nearly all of my life I’ve been spelling it as ‘tonne’, I don’t know why but I was under the impression that I was correct. Microsoft Word apparently disagrees. I tend to trust checker more than my own intelligence when it comes to these things, except for cases where I use British spelling over North American spelling. Words like ‘favourite’ and ‘honour’ come to mind. Now that I think about it perhaps ‘tonne’ is the British spelling, if that turns out to be true than I will stick with that since the extra ‘ne’ makes it a far more attractive word.

I think that they're trying to hint at something here, but I just don't get it.

Something that Rei needs to understand is that Takashi has never heard of Shidou-sensei and therefore doesn’t have any idea why she’s got her panties in a bunch. To this day I still don’t know the exact reason why she freaks out. The story makes it quite obvious from the get-go though that he is one guy that you should clip and leave dead to the side of the road. Like da-yam, that guy is fucked up. I’ve been thinking about my survival dream team (made up of reality based characters) and if I had to pick three ladies and two other guys I think I would go with: Onizuka since he’s Onizuka, and then Revy, Balalaika and Roberta. What, that’s not original enough for you? Are you telling me that you wouldn’t take the three strongest chicks in “reality” anime just because they’re all from the same one? Yeh, I didn’t think so. Oh, and Frank West; he’s covered wars, you know?

Actually, Zombie Bus Gun is a King level weapon, next to Flying Shark Gun.

Watch out for the sequel coming next year: “School Bus of the Dead”. Not to be confused with “Sex Bus of the Dead”. What? They both happen within this show, you say? Well comb my beard and call me Dumbledore we’re in for an interesting show. Seriously though, speeding bus full of zombies is freaky, almost as freaky as Keanu Reeves’ English accent. Though nothing is quite as terrifying as the bike-gun; after all it’s a gun that shoots bikes, I think if someone shot a bike at me I would simply applaud their effort and die. Damn it, I just thought about Rei never explaining her stupid reasons for bitching and whining and I got pissed off again. I guess I really don’t like Inoue Marina very much, I’m fine with Yoko since Yoko doesn’t bitch and moan every three seconds, but she voiced Natsuru in Kampfer….I’ll let you think about that one for a bit.

Takashi brooding face of the week.

The best scene of the episode was Takashi walking amongst the unaware zombies, it was just a neat scene that works better in motion with sound then it does on paper. It makes me want Dead Space 2 to have a sequence where you have to walk through endless creatures that will immediately end you if you make a sound, in space! I get shivers when thinking about how in the first game when you’re walking around in space (for obvious reasons) you can’t hear anything and therefor monsters just fly at you out of nowhere. Loud echo is loud, that really sucks for everything to go down shit creek just because of a scrape, but oh well, this is a zombie show after all. I think Saya should learn that yelling at a person to reprimand them for yelling is not only hypocritical, but completely misses the point she was making.

Something I always appreciated about H.O.T.D. was how long it took them to get guns, most zombie movies have guns from the start so seeing people forced to survive without that luxury is interesting in itself. It’s been so long since I read the first chapters of the manga that I forgot that Rei and Takashi have to slug it out on their own for a while. Hopefully they regroup before the next episode ends. I think most people are of the opinion that H.O.T.D. was better at the beginning than it is later on. I personally don’t share this opinion; I much prefer the later on chapters to the beginning ones, since everyone becomes less complain-y and Rei loses screen time in favour of Saeko. Truly that was the best idea the mangaka ever had when it came to this manga. However at this point I am of the mindset that if Satou Daisuke kills off any of my favourite characters, I will immediately relegate H.O.T.D. to the third division of manga. It is very rare that I am okay with killing off characters just because you can; I don’t read H.O.T.D. to watch people die, I read it to watch people survive.
