Amagami SS 5

Now as well as Puppy-kun we have Hamster-chan.

We start on a new arc and immediately we are greeted with new engrish. The moment I heard the words: “Let’s go!” in that exact format, I knew we were in for an interesting episode. I’ll start completely out of order by stating that it looks as though the kink of the arc will be thighs, I had guessed ears because of the trailer for the show before it aired. While it had a bit of ear biting too you can’t deny Junichi’s attraction to thighs this time around and better yet was the conversation with Haruka during the preview about thighs. I’ve said this before but something I really liked about KimiKiss ~ Various Heroines ~ was how it had absolutely hilarious pervy kinks between the protagonist and his plethora of attractive ‘paths’. The preview ended showing Junichi in a lowered pose in front of an apparently stripping Kaoru. One can only wonder the kind of hijinks these two ‘bad friends’ will get up to.

FALCON PUNCH!!

Kaoru herself is far more adorable than I thought she would be. Unlike Haruka who only showed her weakness (in a really strange way) in the last episode of her arc, we are getting the insight on Kaoru from the get go. No matter how ridiculous you find this show or how much you dislike it because it doesn’t have all the ups and downs that real relationships have, you’ve got to love the progress we make each week because of it. Hooray for a girl realizing that she likes a guy by the end of the first episode (for her arc) and hooray for the guy realizing that he is now looking at said girl in a different light by the end of the first episode! I think that the last arc of this show is going to involve Junichi being trapped in a 4.5 Tatami mat room that is surrounded by similar rooms. In each room he realizes that he spent his life loving a different woman and comes to the conclusion that each room has its own colour, and then he decides that a harem is best. Harem End Get.

Mai waifu has returned to shut you up!

I can see the end! I believe that I am currently channeling Katsuragi Keima because I believe that I know what the dorama is going to be for this arc. Well, the dorama for the last arc was a girl crying because she wasn’t peeped on (and the pedophile arrest rate in Japan shot up). I think that Kaoru is going to be some sort of matchmaker for a few more girls until one comes up wanting to confess to Junichi, at which point she’ll still agree to do it because she’s a baka! At which point Junichi will realize who he loves, apologize to the girl and run off to confess to Kaoru. He’ll find Kaoru crying alone in a classroom and she’ll put on fake bravery by asking; “Why are you here?!” at which point Junichi will confess and kiss Kaoru to which she’ll confess back and then all will be right with the world and Voltron will throw back another beer. Perhaps we will get a flash forward to the future where Kaoru is the kindergarten teacher of Junichi’s child with Haruka who had passed away in bir……..OH MAEDA NOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Ponytail swiftly approved.

I’m not surprised that Kaoru didn’t like her nickname; I think being called a “nuke” is pretty cool though. I think my favourite nickname I’ve seen in the past little while though has to go to; “Young Master Red Lion” from Gokusen. Such a ridiculous nickname, but it’s awesome. It’s strange, I wouldn’t have classified Kaoru as a tsundere off the bat since she just seems playful, but when I thought about it she totally is. She even admitted that she hit him because he defended Ayatsuji but then proceeded to apologize a whole lot before hitting him again after realizing that he’d seen her ‘panchira’. If that isn’t your run-of-the-mill tsundere, I don’t know what is. I suppose the big difference between the average tsundere and Kaoru is how she is playful naturally and not angry and distant. However considering what we’ve seen and know of the other girls in this show, I think she’s the closest thing to a tsundere that we’re going to get. Though I must admit I prefer Kaoru’s version of tsundere to the average one.

Complaints? Where?

I had to pause the episode a couple of times at the end because of embarrassment laughter. When Junichi waved at Kaoru I thought; “she’s going to spill the coffee.” And she totally did. Then I had to again when she was blushing at him while cleaning it up, so funny. The different imaginings of why Kaoru had called Junichi out were also funny; I especially liked the German suplex. I think that Junichi wasn’t imagining what she was going to do; I think he was seeing the future and seeing the variations of how Kaoru greets him when he gets home from work. “Welcome home, darling. Do you want food? Or a bath? Or perhaps….*German Suplex into a bed of flowers*”. I’m really enjoying Kaoru as a character and can’t wait to see next week’s episode. To be honest I am enjoying this show the most this season, followed by Seikimatsu and Shiki. I like Legend of the Legendary heroes more than H.O.T.D. right now. I hope LotLH stays as good as it has been in episodes two to four and that H.O.T.D. gets better quick.

Its kinda weird. After watching the first arc, and how people acted, then completely starting from scratch, personalities of a few have changed drastically. Junichi in the first arc I believe felt so self-contained because of the Christmas eve event, so he always stayed to himself. He acted rather weak, and very distant. But in this arc; I guess from having Kaoru pester him after it happened, and to bug him to take her to the bakery and invited him over, it kind of made him a strong, less pathetic character this time around. He is more aggressive verbally and physically, however, his ecchi mind still goes at it like crazy. Kaoru seems rough as always, but its nice to see her softer, more vulnerable side as well. Hibiki acts like the normally does, really stern, yet concerning for others. And the one thing I'd like to point out is the Morishima Haruka guest appearance in the infirmary. I kinda liked it, but at the same time, I wanted to give a boot to the head to someone because its not her arc. >:[

I shall forever be, a Haruka Fan. :)

Great review! Looking forward to more!

  • So if Kaoru is a single warhead, would that make your imagined harem end a MIRV?

Good point on the tsundere aspect of her character. It's definitely something different from most tsundere, but at the same time seems sort of classic. I wonder if she might be closer to an earlier form of tsundere character that the more violent ones have supplanted in the spotlight. Somebody needs to do a history of tsundere and their evolution someday, hehe.

  • Out with the Sempai and into the best friend… And am liking it!!!! I will state this here but if this keeps going like this, this arc might be better than the one set prior.

Looking forward to more excellent reviews, of this "sex haired" arc!

And as always Till THEN………i will go stroke my ego now..

  • Junichi has some weird fantasies and the bastard gets most of 'em. Lucky. xD

    • Yeah, he had TWO fanservice fantasies; I thought the third one would be something different, but it was basically the same as the second one. While the mishaps in the restaurant were cliche, I wonder what the writers have stored since we’re only in the first episode of the four episode arc.
