Seikimatsu Occult Academy 5
#6 is of no use to Maya at all, and he’s not the best teacher either, but he sure can woo a girl… even Maya, except for the, “I was never even remotely interested in you” part. Sure, she acts like she hates him, but why would she even care if he’s absolutely useless? She’s just being tsundere (or she just hates him). #6 probably won’t be able to redeem himself in her eyes soon, but maybe in three or four more episodes he’ll do something, although whatever it’ll be is completely beyond me.
I like the focus on Naruse, probably because I like meganekkos, although Occult Academyhas a good cast of characters, which is probably why they’re able to switch focus from Naruse to #6 to Maya and such without switching scenes too quickly (like Eva 2.2222… so many moments…) to overwhelm us or too slowly to bore us to death. I loathe every scene featuring #6 and Mikaze (I remembered her name!), but they’re inevitable, and even though the eating-the-bread-to-make-her-feel-better scene was cliché and predictable, it was almost cute. Not as cute as Naruse’s monologue on the rooftop or the vice-principal’s lunchbox, though. Work hard, Vice Principal! We’re not rooting for you, but work hard anyway!
The biggest reason I detest moments featuring #6 and Mikaze together, besides being cheesy and the fact that I dislike her, is the music whenever a “sweet” (can you call it that? I’m not sure) or “cute” moment comes up, or whenever Mikaze is acting overly cute. It’s probably what #6 hears in the back of his head when he looks at her, but once I hear that music I think, “Oh God, here comes the double rainbows.” But it’s a very smart choice for background music to get me to hate her. Occult Academy usually has fitting music to appropriately accompany the scene without being too unconventional or weird. The weird chorus and piano accompaniment as the teacher explained the afterlife & as Naruse entered the weird death-simulator machine is a notable example.
Naruse and her afterlife… no doubt they’ll bring her back somehow, but how? And who is that soul inside Naruse? I thought that maybeit’s the “King of Terror” who comes down, if you think of souls “coming down” from heaven or something, but that’s too farfetched, and the date would be wrong, too. It would also be helpful if we knew what date it is currently in the show, so we get an idea of how close July 21st is. Hopefully #6 will volunteer himself to also use the near-death simulator to save Naruse, just to redeem himself, but that’s unlikely based on his personality… And, what about all the other students? While I’m not keen on always introducing new characters, I can’t help but be a little curious as to the other students since Naruse mentioned she’s the only one who hasn’t had a supernatural experience, although that doesn’t guarantee they can do anything cool. But maybe there are other badass kids out there like JK or Smile, who knows?
I was so happy when they mentioned The Little Prince! And the three-second rule, something I didn’t need to look up to understand, although it doesn’t count as the occult haha. Anyway, this was a cute episode, especially with the trio laying on their backs and being weird (or just Naruse being weird), but it will probably pick up the pace now that we’re presented with some crazy afterworld with someone to save.

Fumiaki is such an idiot! =.=;; And I share your hate for Mikaze. This woman makes me wanna slap her.
For me this episode was slower than the last one but hey, the next one seems very exciting! xD
Why the hate for Mikaze? I get the feeling she is not all she seems and needs to be selling bread in the school to spy on either Fumiaki or Maya.
KOZUE!!!! ~Hanazawa Kana~ Loved her presence on the show!
Can't agree with this hate in the love triangle with my man Abe is having..
Good reviews and keep em' coming! Because well… Occult Academy is the best of this season so far…
