Amagami SS 6
Alright first things generally come first and today that is the belly button kiss. Holy barnacles, I didn’t think that they could top the back of the knee kiss but clearly the creator of Amagami SS after talking to me decided that I should go ef (A Tale of Melodies) myself and one upped himself. The scary part is that not only did he raise the level of deviancy, but he also left spaced to be able to continue to raise the bar over the next eighteen weeks (EIGHTEEN WEEKS) that we have left with the show. And that doesn’t even include the two bonus episodes that are scheduled to be released along with the Blu-rays. Honestly I’m quite glad that High School of the Dead is only a one season show, especially with the great season that Fall is looking like it’s going to be. I’d rather not be held down by something from this season. I give Amagami an exception to this rule because it’s romance. Yay bias!
I already like this arc more than Haruka’s arc. While Hibiki is still mai waifu I have to give Kaoru credit for being completely adorable. She was almost in a complete dere mode throughout this entire episode and I’m sure after what (I’m assuming) will be a tsun episode next week, I will look back on this episode and remember the cuteness. The thumbnail image says it all. Something I like more about this arc than the prior is that both of them stand on the same level, with Haruka it felt like she was always leading him around and she didn’t get nearly as much air time as Junichi. With Kaoru it feels as though she’s getting more air time and that we’re seeing the relationship more from her angle than Junichi. Though this could be because we saw a lot of Junichi’s downer path in the last arc and Kaoru helped him get out of his funk quickly in this one. Yay for bad friends! Double Yay for bad friends who are hot chicks that let you kiss their belly button!
The apparent betrayal that Kaoru feels after seeing her mother with a man that she’s never seen before is interesting. It’s clear that Kaoru has never had a solid male pillar to rely on in her life and with her under the impression that it’s her and her mother against the world; it’s understandable for her to feel that way after discovering that her mother can rely on someone other than her, while she can only rely on her mother. If you’re thinking: “That’s where Junichi comes in.” Then ding ding ding, you get a cookie. Kaoru’s evolution as a person who keeps distance from males to Junichi’s lover is a very interesting process. I am interested to know if Kaoru even knows who her father is, and if she fears her mother getting hurt by being in a male relationship; since that’s the kind of trauma that can keep someone out of a relationship with the opposite sex. I wonder if Junichi has just gradually become a pillar that she has now realized and thus fallen in love with, or if she was in love with him from the beginning and didn’t realize it; I’m guessing the former.
I’m glad that Junichi is now looking at Kaoru as a girl (about time really), it’s hard not to after having an accidental kiss followed by a not accidental stomach licking. The time it takes for him to fall in love with Kaoru will comprise the drama, methinks. He already said to her that he isn’t interested in any particular girl and if something like that comes up again she could easily push him away. I’m still under the impression that the girl who wrote the letter to confess to the jerk guy will fall in love with Junichi and that Kaoru being a baka will be the final episode of the arc. If I wasn’t watching this show as it came out and instead started watching it after it was complete, I am sure that I would watch it all in one day. It is just really gripping stuff, though you melodramatics that love your complicated relationship romance will probably disagree with me. I say all this, but nothing beats the romance between Strawberry Cheesecake and Häagen-Dazs ice cream.

"Nothing beats the romance between Strawberry Cheesecake and Häagen-Dazs ice cream."
I give a 10/10 to this article just for this quote.
Great review. Although I wish you'd kinda shed some of your opinion on how she acted to the whole letter passing. To me, the reaction she got when Junichi came over kinda showed she values his opinion/standing for things she does. I think this goes along with your "pillar" you mentioned.
This episode pretty much confirms my enjoyment over the Haruka arc with Belly kisses and all that continuing awkward moments that really sets what future arcs will have. *Fetishes…..*
But yeah! It's kinda hard to tell whether they'll raise the bar when it comes to the next 18 installments..
Loving this arc and review, and as always keep em coming!!!!
P.S: Whenever you blog about Amagami SS, I release a new episode of the DDD!
Till then…. TRIP D's OUT!
me too i want to kiss her stomach =(
Dam you juuichi or whatever D:
KKKUUUSSSSSOOOO!
Oh there will be dorama and tsun moments in the next episode but it would be totally stupid if Kaoru sacrificed for that confessing friend. >.> Hopefully Junichi will become that pillar Kaoru's looking for.
PS: Bonus points for mentioning the two of my favorite sweet combinations.
