Mint’s Top 7 OTPs
Ah yes, it’s that time of the year again… When all the jocks in the class are passing each other Justin Bieber valentine cards and the halls ring with the sound of singing telegrams (I volunteered to play the bongos and got to miss three classes). It also means it’s time to live vicariously through some of the most idealistic romances around, of the animanga variety. These are some of my personal favorites– and I’m the type of person who is very picky when it comes to fictional romances. Without further ado:
GET ON WITH IT. - Justis
Sawako x Kazehaya (Kimi ni Todoke)
It’s not a surprise that what many consider the best romance series in recent years gets a mention here. (Despite the fact that the plot drags on so much it’s ridiculous.) These two are the OTP to end all OTPs. They’re clearly soul mates destined for each other and yet the story insists on prolonging the uncertainty of their relationship so much that I’ve been tempted to tear out my eyeballs. Well, not quite, but I do read the manga here and there, in small doses. It’s cuteness overload, otherwise.

It’s complicated… (Toradora)
Taiga and Ryuuji may have been the main couple of the series, but what truly made it shine was the messed up love dodecahedron that pulls in the entire cast. In fact, I didn’t even really like the main pairing; it was a lot more fun to watch them interact with the rest of the crew. I’d be happy with Ryuji/Ami or Minorin/Kitamura or Taiga/Kitamura or Minorin/Ryuji. It’s all good.

Howl x Sophie (Howl’s Moving Castle)
The best part about their relationship is, interestingly, a result of the gimmick in the plot. He still falls in love with her despite the fact that she becomes an old lady, and she stays even when he turns into a strange bird-like… thing. But the way they fall for each other is so genuine and subtle that it’s hard not to dissolve into the sweetness that is this couple.
Oh dear. - Urahara
Satou x Yachiyo
Working!! was best when it focused on the quirks of those characters, but there’s something about this little unrequited love plot that makes me cringe and laugh at the same time. It’s painful to watch. And still hilarious. These two will probably never have a happy ending, but it’s lovely fun to watch that guy being beat up by fate. It also helps that the only other pairings in the show are either disturbing or annoying.

Watanuki x Doumeki (xxxHolic)
I’m including these two just so I can rant about that ending. What the hell, CLAMP?! I try not to shout at my computer screen and other inanimate objects on a daily basis but that was uncalled for. Well, actually, I was upset because my mind felt all messed up and then I realized all the other implications that that ending brought up. I’m not even going to call that an ending, whatever that was. The TRC ending sucked, too. What was with that bird? And the egg?! Where did all that come from asfdkj;l

Miyazawa x Arima (Kare Kano)
This is a classic. The only reason I’m a fan of such a relatively ancient series is that the first few volumes are marked as new releases in my local bookstore and I happened to pick them up. That is how backwards we are. Anywho, Yukino is one of the most delightful heroines I’ve ever come across and it was a nice relief to see that there was someone more obsessed with perfection than I was. And then Arima comes along and the series just gets better and better from there.
Why is it so hard to find nice images of these two? All these other dudes keep getting in the way. :/
Roy x Riza (Fullmetal Alchemist)
FMA is pretty much shounen perfection; it has excellent pacing, a complex plot with an actual direction and purpose (I’m looking at you, Bleach), characters, humor, etc, and somehow, romance that doesn’t get on my nerves (in a story that isn’t just about romance). Winry and Ed are fun to watch but Roy x Riza trumps all. That quiet devotion thing mirrors Lan Fan/Ling, but there are some truly awesome moments in the manga between Roy and Riza.
Quite possibly the most entertaining couple of all time. -Hisa
Isaac x Miria (Baccano!)
The rest of this image shows the other notable couples in Baccano!, but you can’t deny that Miria and Isaac steal the show. They’re so wacky together that you literally can’t imagine one without the other. You really can’t describe their energetic crazyness in words, so you’d be better off just watching Baccano!. I was utterly lost the first time I watched it, but Isaac and Miria were so awesome that it didn’t matter.
Well, hope you all had a nice Valentine’s/Single Awareness Day! And feel free to share who your one true pairing(s) are. Also, let it be known that I just barely managed to write this on time. It only says the fifteenth because New Zealand is in the future, I swear! So I’m off to get started on next year’s post about my least favorite couples of all time. I have a feeling it’ll take a long time for me to finish it…

What I like most about Isaac and Miria is that yes they're a couple, but they're never shown doing "couple-ish" things! They're crazy together and they're probably crazy for each other, and they're just one of the best couples in anime. Certainly one of the funnest to watch.
Agreed! Isaac and Miria are so great. I wish there was another season of Baccano! but the cameos are always a nice treat. I can't think of another pair quite as entertaining as them XD Working!! was only decent for the first few episodes but I fell in love with it around the midway mark (if you haven't watched up to there it gets a little better :3).
Yay for Howl and Sophie.. as well, Roy and Riza heheh. Pretty cool post. My favorite couple that I can think of at the moment is Nodame x Chiaki hehehe.

I need to watch Nodame Cantabile sometime soon. The only other music-ish anime I've seen is K-on, and I'm not sure that counts, haha. Happy v-day~

LOLS Sadly, at school the teacher told me to list some stuff we learnt in the past and I totally forgot what they were so I basically took 10 mins of the class thinking with all my friends whispering me the answers (he kept picking on me every 5 mins and it was bad cause I kept forgetting them every 5 mins) D: But it was all good, the teachers kool ;D I'll never forget it again…

Totally agree with all the choices, Miria and Isaac are just SO WIN. Same for Roy/Liza, Ryuji/Taiga (though I HATE Taiga) and Satou/Yachiyo. Haven't really caught up with xxxHolic but that rage emanating for CLAMP on it makes me want to stay away from it. 0.0
You can thank morri for reminding me of Howl and Sophie! That movie was so good. And god, the ending for xxxholic is depressing T_T Just pretend that it ends where you're at and stay away, far away…

LOL at DouWata. I think the bird = Watanuki (his new crest, care of Syaoran) so the dream is a parallelism of him being freed from being caged inside the shop. or so i think. Well, the egg, screw that egg. They should just cook it.
I also ship Isaac and Miria but I get this feeling they don't need our shipping anymore! haha so I tend to go for Firo/Ennis. Meanwhile there are lots of Claire/Chane shippers too already.
If there's a couple not included here that makes me sad, it would be Horo/Lawrence. I love these two too.

Have you seen some of the newer Baccano light novels? One took place in present day and I think Firo and Ennis finally got married, while Claire and Chane are still running around as lively 70-year olds. They're all so great XD
;_; yeah, it's a downer I had to go for manga scans sometimes since there are no good wallies and poster artworks. You should try watching Spice and Wolf! haha, although there's also the translated LN books if you prefer reading :P
Yeah, I heard the got married but I think I also heard Firo got imprisoned T_T? I don't know where to read the LNs actually. I don't check baka-tsuki often. Haven't heard of Chane and Claire though.
I loved the whole casts' relationship together in Toradora, but part of me wanted (or suspected?) Ami & Minorin to hook up >_>

Roy x Riza is my favorite couple! :D they should have kissed or something! in both seasons it seemed like they were nothing more than just good friends T_T I also really like the Howl's mov..'s couple! Spirited away ChihiroxHaku is pretty good too! I could almost go on and on about all my fav movie/anime shows that I ever watched~ there's just too many to name xD
For some reason I can't imagine Roy/Riza doing that, but a few of those scenes near the end the series were intense. But I know what you mean about having too many favorite pairings to name, haha.
