Sekijitsu Hits the One Year Mark!!

Illegal fireworks are the best!

Bust out them party hats and ice up that birthday cake cos it’s Sekijitsu’s one year anniversary!

Wow. It’s quite an achievement for the site to finally get over that one-year hump, since it shows that we actually have some staying power. There were a few growing pains, as is the case with anything new, but I’m extremely proud of what we’ve done here. The team has put in hundreds of hours of effort (rough estimate) to pump out the content to keep the site ticking and I’m extremely grateful to have these guys joined me for the ride.

The site grew much larger than I initially anticipated, in such a fast pace that it actually shocked me a little bit. I knew it would take time to get more of a foothold in the aniblog circle but I’m pleasantly surprised to see the blog grow the way it did. The main catalyst of course is the awesome Aniblog Tournament that was held last year. That event definitely brought us out there for people to notice and because of it, we’ve made plenty of new friends in the blogosphere. For that, I’m very grateful to the Tourney founders for slipping us in there, especially given how new we were at the time.

That aniblog spike really screwed up my graph

As of today, we have had 155,850 hits on the blog, which is huge given that we’re still only a year old. They say that the first 100k are the hardest, so maybe in time we’ll get more and more hits. As you can see in that image there, there is a HUGE spike in the middle of June to coincide with the Aniblog Tournament. It’s definitely a bit jarring to see that one anomaly but because of it, we’ve been steadily increasing our hit rate since then, so there’s a lot more growing to come.

Hits are only a minor sideplot to me though, since I prefer to discuss with the readers on any specific topic. We’ve been getting a steady amound of comments coming in from our friends from the blogosphere and that has been the highlight for me personally. Readership is king to me so it’s always a pleasure to be able to discuss our content with the readers out there. I mean, now that we know people are actually reading our stuff, it motivates us more to continue on with the publishing. So to all our regular visitors, commenters and friends, I’d like to say thank you. You have been a huge part of this site, and really you guys keep us ticking.

Now, enough with my blabber. It’s time for someone other than me to take the mic. Here are some of the crew with their thoughts on our adventure so far.

The cake's a lie

Even I can drop back in to wish the best looking site on the web a happy birthday. I have a lot of things going on, but I also have plans so you can all look forward to that sometime soon. To the two of you that miss my posts….well, you already listen to DDD so whatever. Hey Bass! Sekijitsu is a year old, go figure. The next big birthday is in a month when we reach the year anniversary since Shea posted something. Happy Birthday Sekijitsu! I wish I could make the DDD site as sexy as you, but instead I’ll just watch as you develop even further. Kukuku~ what nice child-bearing hips you have.

I grew up watching anime in my youngin’ days, and still do today, although the fact that I can barely finish any of them shows how lazy I can be (See Angel Beats, K-On!! and Mitsudmoe S2). I’m pretty glad I got the opportunity to write for Sekijitsu as I’ve been a blogger in some shape or form since Ye Olden Days of Myspace. It’s just something I love. When I got the chance to write for Sekijitsu, I was pretty happy, and still am.

One of the best thing about the site (no not the Yoko pics, or how organized it is), it’s a combination of the writers; me, Mint (minty fresh posts?), Vivi (I can’t think of anything witty D: ), Bass (the lovable New Zealander!, wait is he from New Zealand?), 2shea (wait who?), morri (her name reminds me of Ouran and Detective Conan), Flags (insert witty comment please?) and Kyokai (I don’t think I check the site enough to see who she is o.o). The fact that we seem to always have a new post or comment, it’s really exciting. But it’s not us who are the best thing about the site, oh no, it’s you people who bother to read this. Despite me RARELY signing onto MSN, I still enjoy our epic conversations. Finally I just want to say DON’T JUDGE ME! ~gero gero~

Wow! Has it been a year already?! It seems like yesterday that I was stalked persuaded to join Sekijitsu. Of course, I’m not much active these days due to full responsibilities of Metanorn but you can say, SJ has been my home away from home. My extended and ever increasing aniblogging family started right here with awesome buddies like Flags, Bass, Mint, Vivi, Morri, 2Shea and Funk. We still have those epic chats whenever we find each other on MSN. At the end of the first year, I would like to wish the entire team a big CONGRATS for going over the big 100k hump!

From the smexy design (one of my favourites out of all aniblogs) to awesomely written posts on animanga and beyond; I’ve come to love Sekijitsu as my own and would look forward to not just doubling hits but going even more than ten times of its current traffic for the next anniversary. Looking forward to more slav- uh, minio- err… writers to brainwash train. Much love from me and the entire Metanorn Team~

I stumbled into the blogosphere a bit by accident; but it’s one of those chance events that you can’t imagine living without after the fact. This time last year was the craziest ever life-wise (I think my fellow team members can testify to my sleeplessness and general insanity). But I think the most unexpected (and most rewarding) part of writing here at SJ was getting to know so many awesome people. I honestly didn’t think I’d actually make friends through blogging, let alone allow my true personality seep through in our crazy epic chats… cough.

And to all our readers who I’ve yet to meet– it’s never too late to apply and join in with the rest of us maniacs, or speak up and let us get to know you through comments and twitter! I’m friends with people I used to stalk lurk around their blogs, but I never thought I’d get to talk to. Ah, I still remember the day I stumbled across this site and was seduced by the gorgeous layout, happened to see the ‘hiring’ banner, and the rest, as they say, is history…

Sekijitsu was a real gateway for me into the anime fandom. Well, I’ve loved anime for a long time, and I’ve had some friends who would fangirl with me and all on DeviantArt and random messageboards and whatnot, but they never last because they were only rooted with me based on one fandom to the next. I think the great thing about Sekijitsu – aside from the kickass writers, aka Bass, Kyo, Mint, Funk, Morri, and even Shea and Flags – is that we focus on so many different anime and manga series, genres, works, that reach out to everyone and every niche.

Every post all of the other writers post are always worth reading, so you can’t help but check the site regularly for new and perhaps weird posts. Hopefully the breadth will expand even wider, and I hope in the future we can post more frequently than this first year (although, that’s what the recruits are for, haha). It makes me very, very happy to know people read and even bother to comment, so bless you readers for being amazing! Please bear with me and my writing/posting flaws, for year two I will work hard for the SJ team and you readers! Live long & prosper ☆

So there you have it, the crew of Sekijitsu! Morri couldn’t make it at the moment but I’m pretty sure once she logs in, she will be putting up her thoughts in here very soon :)

Like I said before, without these guys, Sekijitsu would be pretty empty. They’ve been a tremendous help with keeping this site flowing and while some have gone on to deal with real life, the guys that have stayed put will always try their best to help this site grow bigger. Plus, since the deadline for the new writer search is coming up on the 21st, we’ll be adding new members to our family so we will always keep on growing in size. Definitely lots to look forward to in the future here.

It's been one hell of a ride....

But the birthday bash doesn’t just end here! To commemorate the one year aniversary, I will be posting a week’s worth of posts on a specific theme. I’ll call it the “7 days of _____”. A post a day on ______ that I’ve always really wanted to do for a while now. I’m not sure how this will affect my usual manga posts but I’ll just wing it as it goes :P So stay tuned to check out what ____ is :)

So that’s it for now. It’s been an awesome journey thus far and hopefully we’ll have plenty more years to come. I’m still aiming to make it to the next Aniblog tournament next year and hopefully we’ll be able to do much better than we did in 2010. Again, thank you for visiting us. We really appreciate your company :)

Onwards and forwards!

  • Congrats!! This is a huge landmark.

p.s. Those are some awesome stats. ^ ^

  • I was just about to go to sleep and then this popped up on my ipod's rss feed. (I thought I accidentally hit publish or something. Worst nightmare ever T_T.) Anyways, it seems as though we're approaching the glorious high hit days of summer! Looking forward to more milestones in the future :D

    • Fingers crossed we do :D

I always think about accidentally hitting publish by mistake as well. Thankfully it hasn't happened yet :P

  • Congrats! It's really only been a year? How the heck did you sneak into the tourney at such a young age. =P

    • Lol to be honest, I'm not too sure myself haha. I remember that we were slipped in at the last second as the last seed.

      Really changed everything though :3

  • Where would this blog be without the constant Eyesheild 21 reference?

Oh and my ever so changing avatar of currently Toku stuffs!

  • Congratulations :3

  • You are only a year old? Wow… congratulations then =)

  • Happy birthday Sekijitsu!

Me still remember clearly that the first time I visited Sekijitsu was because of Flags's Kizumonogatari post in Metanorn. Still a lurker back then :)

Don't tell me that your _____ in “7 days of _____” is going to be ES21 :P

    • @ Elyon – thanks you ^_^

@klux – Yea, it's been one very fast year :P

@ baka_girl – You'll see it the next time you visit haha

  • Congratulations my sexy friends

    As a present, here's a manga recommendation http://www.mangafox.com/manga/hoozuki_no_shima/

  • Happy One Year Anniversary, Sekijitsu!! Congrats~!

You guys are awesome people and I always look forward to the interesting reads and recommendations. Looking forward to more awesomeness to come.

  • You won me over again with that TTGL pic. xD Congratulations again!

@ Funk, log on the site more often! =P

  • Congratulations and good on ya!!

    =)

    • @Ness – thanks Nessy XD

@Kyo – Always wanted to add that pic into a post. Now I can haha

      @Jo – Thanks Jo. How's photography going? :D

      • No photograph unfortunately … too busy with work and its just been too hot to go outside…Maybe when the weather gets a bit cooler. Thanks for asking.

        =)

  • Tofu says:

Oh dayum, that spike doesn't look that pretty on the graph XD But hey! It's a good spike right? Although I'm suprised Sekijitsu didn't drop that far down the the bottom when Bass was missing for 4 months or something (that shows you how loyal we readers are right? ^^)

Alright, enough of that, HAPPY 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SEKIJITSU!!! I still remember how I mistaken the date for an earlier date and I posted it on Twitter…then Bass came along and we solved the problem xD

I, myself would like to interact more with all the readers and writers on Sekijitsu cause it's just awesome to converse and make friends who share the same passion about anime and manga right!?!?!? MSN anyone? Twitter? :3

*sigh* Going all the way back to the first time I stumbled upon this site, well let me say that I only knew about this site because of Metanorn xD Once I saw the layout and everything, it was jaw dropping awesome! But to be honest I never really visited much afterwards. Only later on I came back and decided to go for a peek around what features it's got and soon later I started to follow Sekijitsu (surprisingly, I followed Sekijitsu around the time when Bass was gone) I forgot how I knew but I found out Bass was gone and I still remember how I tried to think of what ways I could help out the site and guess what (I'm sure Vivi and Morri know this) I actually asked if I could be part of Sekijitsu so I could help write and bring in more viewers. Later on when Bass came back I asked him about it and soon after he posted the Hiring *take 2* post which I am trying out for ^^ If it was any other site I would of left it and that was it, but Sekijitsu had this weird vibe to it. It made you want to come back and just hang around xD I can see a bright future for Sekijitsu (and for Metanorn!) and I wish them the best of luck xD

ANYWAYS! BASS You know what would of been better? To have made the due date earlier so you can announce 1st year anniversary AND new writers so it seems like after a year, new writers are born! LOLS xD For those who haven't applied and want to, go the top right hand corner and you'll see a big HIRING picture which will link you to REVOLUTION!! We- err I mean, Sekijitsu WANTS YOU!!! SO GO APPLY NOW!!

    • I think the big reason it didn't drop when Bass went MIA, was the few of us not missing, still posting :P

    • Haha you always make the best comments Tofu.

Really appreciate your support, thank god you kept with us during our low moments haha.

I extended the hiring date it solely for the purpose of this 7 days of Eyeshield thing. Didn't wanna have the hiring thing mixed up with the birthday bash. I think it would be better to have it after all this, so it doesnt get lost in the shuffle haha

    • Oh shit! Looking back… I really did write a whole heap in my comments back in my commenting days XD JUST LOOK AT HOW LONG THIS IS!!!!
My recent post Ao no Exorcist 13

  • Yay Happy One Year Anniversary!! that's a big achievement! still can't believe this blog is like 5 months younger than mine~ O_o I remember finding out about SJ when Bass emailed me about a link exchange, it felt soo long ago~ The wicked design here always seem to catch a lot of attention. :D

Lolol I'm kinda like Funk here, not really familiar with the writers other than Bass and MInt, I blame it all on the hiatus I took xD so…. wait a minute.. isn't Shea part of another blog? and WHAAAA?! Kyo used to write here??? since when? I thought it was metanorn :o someone plz explain. >_<

    • I have been guest blogging for SJ since Jun '10. You can check out my Shiki posts (that were abandoned in the middle because of Metanorn eating up all my time >.<'') and some music ones. You will still be seeing SOME part of me here. :3

    • Thanks Ruby, I'm surprised your blog is only 5 months older. I would've thought it was much, much older lol.

Kyo was guest blogging during Metanorn's lull months, just to give her a home like she said above. 2Shea was here the first few months to help blog some manga and Durarara with me. Since we got more help, he was able to leave to finish off some of his other projects :)

    • Oh Kyo you were writing for 2 blogs?! wow so talented~~ :3 in Jun '10 I definitely wasn't around at that time XD sounds kool, I'll check them out some time :)

Bass – Same here! lol "much much older" if I was even alive half the time then yeah maybe I would feel older xD Oh I see now, I thought it was only Flags who left, so much happened in one year! you had some pretty good ex-writers :3

  • There's an aniblogging tournament? o_o ANYWAYS, congrats on surviving a year in the wilderness that is the internet. Let's hope you guys are still kicking around next year too, and with new recruits to boot. Keep up the good work~

    • Yea, the tourney was sweeeeettttt. Eventhough we got knocked out in the first round, we put up quite a good fight till the last day against a very, very good blog haha

  • Congratulations guys! I might have been late to know all of you, but just to share, I've been around stalking (that's not the exact word) Sekijutsu during it was still HnY.

It's an honor that I knew you guys before Seki turned 1y/o o/ Row Row Fight the Powah! :D

    • No wonder your username was familiar, I knew I saw it somewhere before haha.

Sadly HnYZ didnt last cos of hosting. It was pretty sad but because of it, Sekijitsu came to be so I dont regret anything :)

  • Noblesse says:

Congratulations, i have only been here about three weeks so i hope i'll see the two year anniversary in a year.

  • CONGRATS WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Keep up the good work! :D

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEKIJITSU! Congratulations on the huge milestone! The new design of the site looks great :D

As said by someone else before, those are some AWESOME STATS. 150K in one year? Wow. Good job guys.

May Sekijitsu long live and prosper in the future. Keep the good stuff comin' !

    • Thanks SB XD

This redesign is probably just temporary I think. Sooner or later it'll be back to normal haha

  • Omigosh ONE YEAR!? Time flies when you're having fun and doing well. You guys deserve all the praise and celebration for such a fantastic blog. And thank GOD you came back Bass! Just in time, eh? Happy One Year and here's to many more to come!

    • Yea, it has been one year. I find it really shocking myself that it all went so fast >_<

Thanks so much BA, good to know we got the head of Bokutachi's support XD

  • Think it's my first time posting here, I do read blogs, let's just say I'm shy… Anyway congratz ^^

    • Thanks so much for commenting XD

Here's hoping that we have more reasons to have you comment more in the future haha

  • A little late, but congrats on your first blog anniversary. Keep up the good work!
