Tofu’s Top 10 Anime of 2010
HA! Is this a joke you ask? It could be… since nearly everyone knows what’s going to be my number one, right? If not, then read on! But please, by all means, if you’re viewing this post already just read on anyway…
Through the tough times, the good times, and the ridiculously funny times of 2010, I, Tofu, have decided to add in my biased opinions of shows that are worthy of the top 10. There will be rants, there will be complaints, there will be haters and there will hardly be any approval at all for the choices I’ve chosen. So why are you still here? Scroll down and start your complaining people! Once you’re done with that, write down what YOU think should’ve been the top 10 of 2010. Operation… START!!

#10 Highschool of the Dead
With a bad ending, an episode recap too soon, gigantic amounts of fan service and the ridiculous, yet hilarious phrase “I’m wet!” spoken by Saeko, you’d think… why the hell did Tofu put this into his top 10? Well that’s because the flow in the story was something that appealed to me.
The actual story line was great! I liked how they pictured a more realistic environment as to what would happen if zombies did attack. Takashi, who is voiced by Suwabe Junichi, leads a group of highschool students as they set out a goal to find each others parents.
The fact that he used Saeko to survive was utterly despicable, yet he was still a good leader. Why, you ask? Takashi isn’t the know-it-all leader, but a realistic leader. The ability to keep a group as one even if you stuff up at times is what makes a leader, a good leader. This is one of the reasons as to why I enjoyed this series. Other than that, Alice (the little girl) is voiced by Taketatsu Ayana! She also voiced the incredible tsundere Kirino, the music loving Azusa (Azu-nyan) and the bat wielding Mio from MM! So what do you guys think of H.O.T.D?

#9 Kuragehime
With the opening song sung by chatmonchy… The main character (Tsukimi) voiced by the lovely Hanazawa Kana, the cross-dressing Kuranosuke who we don’t think is disgusting but awesome and the Amars. They all contribute to make this anime one of the best in 2010 amongst many viewers.
Overcooled would disagree with me here but lets continue shall we? Kuragehime is a very calm and fluffy anime which would not be recommended to those who enjoy action and thrillers. I, at first, thought this was utterly boring until peer pressure got to me… I never regretted watching it since.
Kuranosuke’s love for Tsukimi puts you into all sorts of awkward positions in your chair, but you begin to laugh as the Amars interrupt in a comedic fashion. Not only is this anime full of love and humour, but dreams filled with warmth and happiness.
So why is it 9th on the list? I’ll tell you why. Besides all the love, Kuragehime had slow pacing in the anime. The episode length was way too short with no news of a second season as I know currently. The ending was rushed as they tried to add a bit of plot; an example is when Amamizukan apartment was going to be taken down. Of course, these are just my own biased views of the series. What do you guys think of Kuragehime?

#8 World God only Knows
I will be honest… Number eight was supposed to be Working! but then I remembered… what about WGOK? So here it is! Shiori the librarian, who is voiced by Hanazawa Kana, and the dedicated but clumsy demon, Elsea who is voiced by Sassy’s favourite, Itou Kanae, are both awesome characters! Why? These two made the last arc EPIC! But, of course, let us not forget that Ayumi, the trackrunner voiced by the cute and lovely Taketatsu Ayana~
WGOK might of been very slow compared to the manga, but hopefully in the second season, they will speed things up. As much as I love the art, character designs, and Mio Aoyama’s character single, the series is on par with Occult Academy overall. Nothing less, nothing more.
As much as I’d like to put it in a higher ranking, the other shows massacred this one. I wished that they wouldn’t idle around too much in certain episodes and just stuck to the main story. The wow factor wasn’t very high and the ending doesn’t seem like it will flow into the second season. Well, that’s my views; what about yours?

#7 Seikimatsu Occult Academy
For those rabid fan boy’s (Sassy) of WGOK, are you wondering why Occult get’s 7th but WGOK only got 8th? Because Hikasa Youko voices the main character Maya!! The goddess of voice actors who voiced my lovely Mio Akiyama from K-ON! But, of course, accompanying her in this series is Hanazawa Kana who voiced Kozue. Other than that; Seikimatsu is a comedy, mystery and a supernatural series which made me interested in mystery for the first time.
The story plays out with a very nice flow from start to end, accompanied with great OST’s. The art didn’t amuse me at all nor did I like the character designs… One thing is for sure, JK and Smile are the best characters in Occult, amusing us with an overgrown wrench and dowsing rods as they battle monsters of all kinds. But besides my ideals, what do you guys think of Occult Academy?

#6 Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai
With so many well known voice actors including: Nakamura Yuuichi who voices Kyousuke, Taketatsu Ayana who voices Kirino, Hayami Saori who voices Ayase, Hanazawa Kana who voices Kuroneko and Hato’s favourite, Satou Satomi who voices Manami… Imouto is one of the best in 2010, starting off as a misunderstanding with much incest but surprising many viewers by how ‘normal’ it was.
As most of you know by now, Kyousuke is the older brother of the eroge loving Kirino. Throughout the series, Kyousuke helps Kirino by being a life consultant. Don’t jump to conclusions just yet for those who haven’t watched this. Imouto is one of the best shows of 2010 because of its outstanding and attractive art. Not only that, the side stories here and there make Imouto even more enjoyable.
A bad-ass father, a sleezy ‘I-know-about-your-porn-stash’ mother and one of the most dedicated and admired older brothers you could ever have makes this show epic! With the opening song sequence changing weekly, you’ll never get bored of the same animated opening while you watch Imouto. I could go on and on about how awesome this show is but what about you guys? What do you think of Imouto?

#5 Durarara
One of the biggest seiyuu line ups I’ve ever seen with so many famous voice actors, including: Hanazawa Kana who voices as Anri and Kamiya Hiroshi who voices as Izaya and many others, no wonder Durarara is so popular! Overcooled, you can finally agree with me on this one yes?
The fights between Izaya and Shizuo are intense yet amusing to see. The series portrays each individual character in every episode, giving most of the cast some air time even if it’s just a little. From my point of view, it’s hilarious how the most ‘normal’ person in this series would have to be the headless rider, Celty. I’m sure many would agree? Everything about Durarara is amazing; the art, story and the OST’s used are all magnificent in portraying different aspects and angles while sticking to the main storyline innovatively.
You might be wondering if Tofu’s saying so much positive feedback about this show, why is it 5th? Well that’s because at times, I didn’t understand the meaning behind certain sceanes. Some parts I had to re-watch to hear clearly and at other parts I really wondered if the story was meant to flow in that direction or not.
An example: Celty was feared in the start of the anime but then became a ‘normal’ near the end of the anime, there was no fear when people saw Celty ride pass. Also when she looks for her head, she ends up giving up on the head which seemed like the main story behind all this but wasn’t. I’m not saying it’s a bad anime–Durarara is by all means great but confusing at times. So what do you all think of Durarara? And what about Izaya’s twin sisters in the special episode? By the way, those two are my favourite characters… What?

#4 Black Rock Shooter
I can just picture more than half of you guys complaining as to why Black Rock Shooter was able to beat Durarara and all the rest. I’ll tell you why… Black Rock Shooter is awesome! If you haven’t taken a look at my review on BRS, I suggest you do it now. So lets talk about the anime shall we?
One of the strong points of Black Rock Shooter is its art. The motions compiled with the art plays out smoothly, the scenery drawn up gives a certain indescribable feeling and the art itself brings life to everything the anime throws at us. The art itself makes us grip onto our seats! For a circle narrative, I think it played out really well. This is also the first circle narrative I’ve come across and at first I didn’t understand. After watching it again, I was hooked! I knew the deep meaning behind everything and I loved re-watching it!
Everyone thinks the story needed improvement… I will honestly say it wasn’t the best of stories. They could of put more into it, and yes they needed to improve in some parts. But hey, the music was great and we got to, yet again, witness Hanazawa Kana’s awesome voice acting as she voiced Mato! Other than that, what do you think of Black Rock Shooter? Worth mentioning?

#3 Bakemonogatari
Yeah that’s right! It’s Bakemonogatari! Some of you might be thinking that this series can’t possibly be in the 2010 list if it aired in 2009. Well it can because it finished airing in mid 2010 guys. So besides the confusion, why Bakemonogatari?
Bakemonogatari has one of the most interesting story lines I’ve ever come across. They used an innovative way to display certain messages and definitely great art overall. My favourite character is Senjougahara since I have a thing for tsundere chicks, plus her blunt romantic lines are weirdly very romantic when played out during the series.
Our protagonist, Araragi who is voiced by Kamiya Hiroshi. The cute and sweet Nadeko voiced by Hanazawa Kana. Shinbo, which is Hato’s favourite, all adds up to make this wonderful series filled with interesting characters. Music by Supercell increases Bakemonogatari’s wow factor greatly! With a prequel coming out soon, (Kizumonogatari) I highly recommend watching this show if you haven’t watch it yet. So for those who have seen it, what do you think of Bakemonogatari? Who’s your favourite tsundere?

#2 Angel Beats
Angel Beats is and will always be in my top 5 list. Personally, it beats every other show that was before it. Why? Let’s start with the art. In the first episode, I was captivated. I was left with goose bumps during the last 8 minutes because of its stunning art and how the producers portrayed the art. It continued to appeal towards me throughout the series until I decided to watch it in 1080p… I jizzed (not literally).
I love the art and the character designs, especially Kanade who is voiced by Hanazawa Kana and many others voiced by well known seiyuus. Much love goes out for Kanade and her mapo tofu! Speaking of Hanazawa Kana, it is pure coincidence that from #9 she has been in every anime I’ve mentioned up to #2. But let us not dig deep into that topic and move on.
The story could have been longer. It was great, but I would’ve really liked it if Angel Beats went for at least five episodes longer… Luckily, we were supplied with a few specials that made up for the disappointment (HIGH TENSION!). I loved the music Maeda Jun composed for the series. He’s one of the best composers I’ve come across, and I don’t think I’ll ever hear another piece of art as touching as his.
One thing I must mention is that I believe Shiina deserved more air time in the anime. She was the first character I liked in the series (CUUUUTE-O!!) till Kanade stole my heart in the end. Would you agree with me, Flags? Do we need more CUUUUTE-O in the anime? What do you guys think of Angel Beats?

#1 K-ON!!
Big surprise isn’t it? Bet you didn’t see this coming, not a mile away… Who am I kidding? The moment you started reading this post, most of you would of known what Tofu’s #1 was right? For those who don’t know yet, I am a rabid fan boy of K-ON. Sure the first season didn’t air in 2010, but the second season did! Hato would agree with me on K-ON being #1 right? right…?
Besides that, the moment I watched K-ON I fell in love, personally it’s one of the best slice-of-life animes ever created! The story behind K-ON is about a group of girls that form a musical band and obviously play music in the band throughout the series. K-ON is your typical fluffy, cute, sweet and moe slice-of-life that even makes the ‘normal’ things in life look fun.
Mio Akiyama, my most favourite character of all time–and will always be–is voiced by the goddess of seiyuu’s: Hikasa Youko! Ranking in second from K-ON is Azusa (Azy-nyan) who is voiced by the lovely Taketatsu Ayana and of course, Hato’s personal favourite… Ritsu who is voiced by Satou Satomi. The art design is lovely and suits the anime perfectly. The flow of events for a slice-of-life series was great– I don’t care about all you haters out there because K-ON is the bomb!
Even though it lacked story (it’s a slice of life guys…) I enjoyed every bit of their adventures from lazing around at home to playing in a concert! The music produced and mainly sung by Mio beats any other anime band out there! Even Girls Dead Monster! Houkago Tea Time will always triumph with its light and fluffy songs!
What more can I say? Do you want me to continue to fan boy over K-ON? Probably not… So as we come to a close, write down your thoughts, trolls, rants, complaints, hates and love (if any) in your comments. Also, what makes it into YOUR top 10 of 2010?

Other than HOTD, Occult, BRS and the world god only knows i can agree with the list but my first spot has to be reserved for Saraiya Goyou.
Anyway, Interesting choices. :)
Saraiya Goyou? Never heard of it but I’ll check it out just for you Unyty ^^
My recent post Spring 2011 Anime Preview
Its one of the underrated animes, like Kuragehime. I hope you like it, most dont prefer genres like this but its definitely worth the watch.
YES, Saraiya Goyou definitely deserves to be on the list ♥
H.O.T.D. is a peice of fucken shit !
I really like this list. It's not cluttered with artsy titles or too much of one genre–it's a great, honest round-up of some of more solid, popular anime to come out in 2010. Also, niiiccce picspams. :)
That being said, leaving out Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a crime. :p
Ahh thanks Renn but I must say, I watched the first season and I heard brotherhood is the same story and because “re-watching” is basically taboo around me I hate re-watching so for those shows that I did re-watch… you know it’s epic xD
It's the same for about the first 15 episodes, then it's completely different because it follows the manga. It's also way better than the first season. You should watch it. :p
I know, I know… Everyone tells me that and it is great but the fact that I’ll feel like I’m watching the same thing will impact me on dropping it if I ever do start, trust me. The onyl shows I’ve re-watched are K-ON (twice) and Black Rock Shooter (six times) :\
Then watch Episode 1 which is different then skip to Episode 16. Or you can of course continue to live in your hovel filled with K-ON and ignore other good series :p
My recent post Anime Piano なんとか 2010
Forgive me for being negative, but this reads like you only watched these ten anime in 2010, and only took chances on the popular stuff. I enjoyed the more interesting bits, but nearer the end your inner fanboy came on way too strong.
I don’t mind it when people like the popular shows immensely, but you didn’t exactly sell me on WHY you liked them.. it read more like you wanted to list your top ten songs, pieces of artwork, seiyuu, or cute girl characters than list your favorite anime. I still don’t know why your top four deserve their ranking, other than “you love them”. No need for five paragraphs to say that :)
But anyway, keep at it… I enjoyed the first 5 or 6 entries, but once you started gushing it all kinda fell apart. I would have loved to hear you elaborate on lines like this instead:
- “I knew the deep meaning behind everything and I loved re-watching it”
- “.. has one of the most interesting story lines I’ve ever come across”
There are a lot of shows I feel you missed out on, but it’s not a big deal. I have very little to say about the shows you listed, except perhaps Durarara, but the only one I am generally vocal about is Angel Beats. I still don’t know what it is about that show people like, because there’s absolutely nothing memorable or interesting about it, and only ranks highly on my list of “shows with the most pathetically braindead plot holes”.
Just to defend my Hing Dai over here but more so stroke a lil bit of my ego, I find your comment to be a little pretentious with a little bit of elitism mixed in. That being said, I personally do not agree with this list but this list is no more than my fine brother's mere opinion. Sometimes certain aspects of Animes are what we take note and carry on to make of our favorites. For example; I LOVE Nakamura Yuuichi in Ore Imouto and to the fact that Kousaka Kyousuke really made that show just with his awesome presence. Then again that's just an opinion.
I will first off thank Baku for sticking up for me, but yes Hogart, you are forgiven ^^
I understand what you mean as to elaborate on the terms as to why I liked those shows but yet again, the ranking system is through my biased decisions (thus it’s not ranking: x but biased ranking: x) if you understand what I mean.
Also, I can only look over the shows that I have watched. It’s not like I would just pick a few I’ve never even heard of but everyone else says it’s great do you get what I’m saying?
I’m sure that even you would have a certain favourite anime you would of enjoyed and thus you would of placed it up in your top 1 and as you have opposed to me, there will be people who will oppose you as well. Remember that not everyone can agree with everyone else, we are humans, we are all individuals. And because we are individuals, we also have our own biased opinions eg: you don’t know why angel beats is so good while for some it’s great.
By all means, thanks for your opinion, as a new writer I am still starting out and learning through experience ^^ I also noticed your part of manifest, do you work for manifest Hogart?
It’s fine to have an opinion, but I was just expecting a bit more. Obviously, uf I didn’t appreciate the effort or want to read it, I wouldn’t have commented on this post in the first pace :) I was merely making suggestions, after all.
Besides, I was suggesting on things to make future posts LESS pretentious (by definition of the word, since empty fanboying is grade-A pretention). Since even the tamest suggestions with a tinge of negativity are pretty much guaranteed to be labeled as “elitism” by someone, I don’t mind. But it was never my intent to sound like I was swirling fine wine in my mouth while callously deriding it just for the sake of being an ass.
Anyway, that’ll be enough for now. Thanks for the post, and keep making future ones even if some arrogant jerk like me swings around :)
I actually agree with you in general. When watching anything, be it anime, a movie, or even reading a book, it's the ones that resonate the most with my internal logic and that can be justified rationally that I enjoy the most. I don't think you're being arrogant in the least.
By the way Hogart, I only watch shows that ‘appeal’ to me regardless of art, music, genre and all the rest. The most simplified reason to explain why K-ON is my top 1 than any other shows is the ‘appeal’ level. ^^ If you would like a detailed explanation of why K-ON is my top 1 I’ll happily write one up for you or you could check out Random Curiosity’s great explanation here: http://randomc.net/2011/01/03/the-best-of-anime-2010/ You will have to scroll down a bit, but these guys are great bloggers and I don’t think I could of explained how much I loved K-ON more than Divine can in this post of his ^^
Yeah everyone has their own opinions, Hogart is just saying you gotta explain a little better about why you like the shows that do you~~ talk more about the plot/storyline rather than the characters, seiyuu etc. Reasons like .."oh this was so epic!" what makes it epic? how and why is it epic? be more specific. like this person: http://www.isugoi.com/ …very hardcore and dead serious! write a whole essay on everything you watch XD lol jkjk but I really like reading movie reviews from there ;3
My recent post March Update
Yeah I know what you mean Ruby ^^ It’s true that I could of explained more at some parts to really tell people why I ranked it as it is. I will use these points for any future Top 10 posts guys ;D Thanks Hogart, Ruby, Baku and everyone else ^^
Yes, I understand that… isn’t that what just about everyone does? :)
But like Ruby said, I was just hoping for more. Reigning in the inner fan is tough, but it can ruin an otherwise excellent post. Even if it’s just to explain WHY are you a fan, and convince me that you like it rather than just saying so, is an impressive feat. It convinces me that you have your own opinion, and makes me feel like I didn’t just read four or five paragraphs that can be summed up as “I like it just ’cause”. That’s all I meant, I didn’t intend to attack your taste.
You don’t have to care, after all. Fanboying about the popular series is more than enough to become a successful blogger. But I feel you have more potential than that, and that’s why I commented in the first place. I was really wondering whether you would convince me to look at the popular stuff in a new light, perhaps making me think twice about my negative biases.
You seem to be a really experienced anime watcher and I'm interested in hearing more of your thoughts. Do you have a MAL or a blog or something?
My recent post Tofu’s Top 10 Anime of 2010
Sadly, no.. I have too many commitments to blog or set up an account on a site like MAL. I’ve always had a hankering to write a bit, because I don’t see many anibloggers out there in their early 30′s. But it takes up enough time just writing a few comments once in a while on other people’s posts :)
I suppose I might set up an account on MAL or something, to at least track the shows I’m watching. But I doubt I’d have time to write any serious reviews.
Hogart, are you part of manifest? you work for manifest!? :O That’s so cool!
But yes, I do understand what you mean. For future posts I will try not to side track too much and lose myself in my fan boy moments over K-ON. Plus, maybe it was my intention to drag you lurkers out to comment in the first place nishishishi~~ *smirks*
There are actually quite a lot of bloggers who are in their early 30's, like ghostlightning and Hanners for instance. There are a lot more out there that we don't know about.
If you do make a MAL account, link em up so I can check it out :)
My recent post Tofu’s Top 10 Anime of 2010
Please do. I very much agree with your views on this list (no offense to the author, but I have a particular hate towards animes that are powered by lolibait and ecchi, which on top of that, have incredibly two dimensional storylines).
I'd love to see your watch list and would look forward to your ratings even more (:
Gaah I hate Taketatsu Ayana. >_<
But I LOVE this list!! :D The picspam is lovely (particularly that Shiori pic <3 And the Izaya one too~ )
I do believe I promised you I'd complain about not including Shiki though, so shame on you! ;D
My recent post Spring 2011 Anime Preview
Yes yes, let the all the hate out guys xD I didn’t watch Shiki nor did I want to, it didn’t appeal to me Elyon :P But thanks!
I'm very happy you included Kuragehime, because most people would've forgotten it!
And I totally agree with Angel Beats being your number two, if K-On is your #1 ^__^
To me Angel Beats, Kuragehime (despite the slow pacing), FMA and Durarara are the winners of 2010, but anyone has their own tastes -shrugs-
To be honest, most of these shows are on par with the rest. It was hard arranging them :D
Tofu, DRRR should not be on that list. You know that :o
It was… something I really did enjoy ><" Gomen Hato~ (BTW: The other shows worth mentioning but ain't here are Seitokai Yakuindomo, Giant Killing, Working, and some others)
Lol what! Durarara was freaking awesome >_<
My recent post Tofu’s Top 10 Anime of 2010
It was awesome, but it didn’t appeal to my personal tastes as much as the shows after it Bass :P I myself don’t know what genre I like so I go with ‘appeal’. I could like the worst anime ever created while I could also like the best anime ever created depending on how much it appeals to me. ^^
i must agree with Bass there Tofu; :)
Durarara was my world before K-on came in :P
and my banner on my blog is the exact same pic you used except i cropped it :D
was Yvonne…was, not any more :P MWAHAHAHAHA!!! lols I just realized that it was the same picture :O
Giant Killing surprisingly a great anime. Shame that i stopped watching it, maybe be will finish sometime.
You picked the best images for all these shows :3 That must've taken a long time though, lol. Kuragehime is definitely one of my (unexpected) favorites, and DRRR!!, of course. I thought Black Rock Shooter was a little disappointing, although the animation was very nice. Still haven't watched Bakemonogatari… XD
You should watch Bakemonogatari Mint ;D They’ve announced a 4-loma manga of Black Rock Shooter but it’s not yet translated I believe.
The best are HOTD, Kuragehime, and of course, Durarara, which needs a sequel NOWWWWWWW.
So does Kuragehime. I feel like all of the really good, high quality shows never get sequels, whereas shitty shows like K-On get sequels, movies, and all sorts of shit.
I will agree with Kuragehime and Durarara needing a sequel since they are great shows. HOTD is getting a special real soon as well which is good ^^
Not everyone would agree with others but that’s how we humans are right? ^^ K-ON is the best mate~ Can’t wait for the movie to come out
I've only watched a handful out of the ones listed here but the one that stood out the most to me was Durarara. I really can't wait for the second season cos while the first one was good, it was only acting as a set up for bigger things. The second one is probably where the most exciting stuff is gonna happen and I can't wait for it to be announced XD
I also really liked Occult Academy but that's probably cos I love Maaya :P
My recent post Tofu’s Top 10 Anime of 2010
There is really gonna be a proper second season of Durarara!? really? REALLY?? not just specials?
yes!!
and for me HOTD had WAY too much fan service to my liking. they have like shots down girls' shirts when its actually perfectly covered up.
and Bakemonogatari was good (haven't actually finished it yet) except a panty shot first thing up? huh?? that was random…and the fact that i watched in 1080p did not make the situation any better…-_-
My recent post K-ON debuting in NYC!!!
@Bass – A second season!??! Should of told me sooner Bass!! xD I'm definitely looking forward to it and yes, heaps of love for Maya!!! <3 <3
@Yvoon – You should finish off Bakemonogatari Yvoon, and don't let the panty shot steer you off xD 1080p FTW!!!
My recent post Spring 2011 Anime Preview
K-ON? Really? Really?
K-ON is Slice of Nothin more than Slice of Life. I just don't understand why people like an anime about a light music band, but actually contains no music. Wait, actually contains nothing.
But meh, I'm a biased prick. I just like my shows to have actual content.
My recent post Anime Review- FLCL
We all have different tastes ;D All goods
btw…have they actually created a band with those singers? or is it just for the anime..?
My recent post K-ON debuting in NYC!!!
The voice actors you say? They are only voice actors so they wouldn't be able to create an actual band :3 Of course, they did two live concerts in Japan which I can't wait for the dvd's to come out so I can buy them >:D The second live I mean…
My recent post Spring 2011 Anime Preview
haha!!
so they can sing properly at a live without tuning their voices or mouthing on the day..?
but it would be pretty cool to see them sing :D
My recent post K-ON debuting in NYC!!!
You should youtube search their live concerts, you’ll get to see the seiyuu’s singing ;D
Haven't watch K-ON or K-ON!! so I can't give my opinion about it :p
If this was my list, the top 5 should be:
#5 Kuragehime
#4 Angel Beats!
#3 Durarara!!
#2 Bakemonogatari
#1 FMA Brotherhood
xD
My recent post baka-girls ABCs of Bishie
You should watch K-ON ;D
Well, slice of life isn't my cup of tea :DOh, and if I remember it well, me already watch K-ON until eps 3 but always get sleepy whenever I watch it :DDFrom: notifications@intensedebatemail.comTo: baka-girl@hotmail.comSubject: Tofu replied to your comment on Tofu's Top 10 Anime of 2010
LOLS Alright, at least you watched some episodes ;D
The highlight of 2010 was Kyousuke's Completely Unmatched Manliness. I'm powerless before his CU-…
No but seriously, either Kuragehime (for Tsukimi, chatmonchy, and trap) or Occult Academy (for Maya, Beethoven, and supernatural STUFFS) are my number ones. Or number one and two. Whatever.
To be honest I was busy reading manga and books during 2010. Also, avoiding K-on like how new zealanders avoid australians, or how house republicans avoid… nah, better not go there. Somehow I missed DRRR and I've been too lazy to catch up.
New Zealanders avoid Australians? :O Hato! Is this true?!?!?
You have a pretty interesting list! :D and,,,, half of them I didn't even watch XD I plan on watching Kuragehime someday. I wanna bash on K-ON but I think you already have many people doing that :P must be a tough life Tofu everyone is always hating >_< the thing with me is that I cannot bring myself to watch slice of life shows, no matter how hard I try, I always always end up dropping it. I think K-On S1 was the first slice of life show that I skimmed through, all the moe stuff was really boring, but I DID watched the last ep and loved it :D not sure if I should continue S2 or not, I heard it was sad~
My recent post March Update
I’ve built a bit of resilience but in the end I’ve still got that fragile side to me :\ Don’t worry, I ain’t going to jump off a bridge or anything. I totally respect your tastes Ruby, the fact that you try your best to bring yourself to watch the shows is good enough. ^^ I will be honest and say that at the end (true end – not including specials) of S2, I cried alongside Azy-nyan :3
haha i cheated and watched the last ep of S2. (sorry Tofu :P)
it was so sad…..but it was happy as well in its own way :D
like a reminiscent sort of feeling…? hmmm…..
My recent post K-ON debuting in NYC!!!
Gahh I hate how my comments never appear immediately -_- it always have to get approved of for some strange reason.. I think this site doesn't like me~ soo from now on, I may not comment often but just to let you all know I'll always be lurking around and reading everyone's stuff! :D
My recent post March Update
Stupid intensedebate >_< I think if you make a proper intensedebate account it will all go away.
My recent post Tofu’s Top 10 Anime of 2010
And this is why I don’t really like ID… the design is bad-ass but the whole approval thing is annoying :\ Ruby, you’re going to have to make yourself an Intense Debate account, linking it to your email so you won’t need approval from us in the future.
so why cant you just get another commenting system..? unless i'm just being ignorant and is easier said then done….
My recent post K-ON debuting in NYC!!!
It was either this or disqus and disqus won't play nice with the site. The native comment system is bogus and for posts with a huge amount of comments like this one, it's hard to have a good informative comment without having it look like it came out of the toilet.
The comment tree system is horrible and it isn't really easy to follow. ID is at least organized and it has a lot of sweet options thrown into the mix. Just have to fix this moderation issue…
This is really the best option for now, at least until I can get help from someone with the native comment skin.

oh i see…seem so complicated :(
maybe u can ask Will on Meta? i dont know, he seems to know a lot about the technical stuff behind running a site :D

KKYYYAAAAAAAA!!!! XD XD XD XD XD
OMG, TOFU, I LOVE THIS POST!!
i agree with ALL your decision coming from the perspectives of you NO. 1 FAN and an individual. except for a few orderings, but my choices were all there! =D
i literally jumped out of my seat every time i saw the next best anime. now my butt hurts and i feel dizzy cause i was crazily squealing silently so my parent didn't think i had a mental breakdown…
and what is with that Hanazawa Kana chick? she's in everything!! man, i need to listen out for her voice.
but yeah, LOVE the post!! i agree with you 200%!!! XD
Love,
Your NO. 1 FAN :P
p.s.
love you pic spams! XD ESPECIALLY K-On and Durarara!!
WOOT! I’m glad to supply my readers with posts that they will enjoy ^^ They were all the same as your choices? Wow! Hopefully your butt will heal from the damage its received soon Yvoon.
Hanazawa Kana was labeled as the “most hard working seiyuu of 2010″ ;D Do check her out, a prodigy she is… But not as good as the goddess Hikasa Yoko!! <3
well, what i've had good impressions of were all there, but i would've added a few others. :) but other than that, it was very good :D
and thank you for the concern Tofu. haha!! :D
My recent post K-ON debuting in NYC!!!
And Highschool of the Dead, i just don't see why people think so much of this, yes it has zombies and zombies make everything awesome but i just didn't think the series matched up to its awesome first episode.
Can't argue with K-ON i love K-ON or i should say i love Azu-nyan. Id probably have K-ON 2nd with Angel Beats 1st.
I also have to question the inclusion of KamiNomi and OreImo, they were fairly fun to watch but with the year including Giant Killing, Dance in the Vampire Bund, Soredemo, Eve no Kikan movie, Saraiya Goyou, Baka to Test i just felt they were nowhere near as good, saying that its hard for me to argue my choices as i did enjoy everything you have on your list hehe and also the fact you mention Hanazawa Kana multiple times pretty much leaves any argument in the dust, favorite seiyuu EVAR!.
That OreImo Darker than Black picture + Araragi's harem picture = HNNNGH
Great post and an enjoyable read with some cool pictures i had not seen before.
My recent post Yeeeeaah…http-donkirkdeviantartcom-
Ahh, it’s true that HOTD had it’s down side and up sides, then again we all share different views so hearing opinions from others is always nice ^^ Angel Beats and K-ON are my two top favourites, they basically are on par with a tad difference ;D
Hanazawa Kana is so hard working and yet so young, a great future indeed she will have ;D
She is. This coming season it looks like she has 4 main character roles and a side character.
My recent post Yeeeeaah…http-donkirkdeviantartcom-
This is one of the worst list I have ever seen.
It can't be THAT bad. After all, we read Kubo's garbage weekly "OTL
My recent post Tofu’s Top 10 Anime of 2010
I can’t appeal to everyone now can I? ^^ What would of made your list klux?
This: http://kluxorious.blogspot.com/2011/01/my-top-10-…
My recent post Help Japan
It has K-ON on the number one spot. That' more than enough reason why I can't take this list seriously
My recent post Help Japan
Great list Tofu! I would have liked Durarara! and Kuragehime to move up a bit but I have only watched 4 animes on this list and in total 6 of the entire year, so what I watch automatically goes into my top five, OTL.
While I was scrolling through the list, I thought that you marked pretty hard since you gave Kuragehime a 6.5/10 (In my opinion, should be at least a 7.2). Kuragehime, was indeed too short and had a bad ending that left everything unresolved, but its redeeming factor was its characters. It was because it was more character centered and its short length that the plot didn't move much. The anime itself was meant to be short and sweet..BUT THAT ENDING IT DIDN'T DESERVE ARGH.BRAINS BASE.
I kinda agree with you too for Durarara!. The plot had two climaxes, which was a bit confusing.
"Overcooled would disagree with me here but lets continue shall we? "
She disagrees with a lot of things, she isn't normal :D
My recent post MTAC 2011
Ahh~ 6.5 does seem a bit harsh towards others but for me this is how I rank things:
1 to 3: not worth mentioning
4: normal
5: good
6: very good
7: great!
8: fantastic
9: epic
10: god like
I definitely think some shows on this lis deserved a higher ranking but with so many on par with others… it was very hard…
Overcooled and I disagree with lots of shows, don’t we OC? ;D Besides Kimi no Todoke
Great list, Tofu-san! But I the 1st place winner was just too shocking for me to bear XD Okay, sorry, I know I'm terrible at any jokes.
But still.. I agree with you on all the anime I've seen from your list. Though, Durarara deserved so much more than the 5th place TT^TT
That’s alright Namika. I would of liked to put Durarara up in a higher ranking but it was very hard to decide with many shows on par in my opinion. :\
No Arakawa?
*goes off and sulks in a corner*
My recent post Pokemon Monochrome- Impressions
Holy crap, you're right!
Tofu, you MUST WATCH ARAKAWA!!
Really? I personally don’t like Arakawa. It doesn’t appeal to me at all no matter what everyone says. I do try to watch shows that are considered good, but I just can’t bring myself to do it no matter how hard I try… :\ Sorry guys~
That surprises me since you like Bakemonogatari. I always thought they gave off similar vibes (but then again I never finished Bakemonogatari so…) XD
My recent post Spring 2011 Anime Preview
omg, i cant believe that i forgot about Arakawa?
where's Arakawa Tofu?
well, cant help it if u didn't like it. i really liked it since it was so random and the fluffy romantic parts just made me go….daaawwwww!! <3 haha!! :D
My recent post K-ON debuting in NYC!!!
LOL i love your biased opinion on K-On! :L
but for me i personally like angel beats for it's sad, tragic, yet funny storyline :)
but good work on your top 10 2010 anime list, i'd agree with most :)
@elyon: i dont have a fav genre so i use my very own appeal rating for shows ;D bakemonogatari is epic! U should finish it ^^
@pickle: thanks! I also think angel beats is an awesome show and just a tad from rank one
HoTD's art rating is 4/10 !? WHOA. I mean, the show itself wasn't as great as I had hoped (though it's hard to squeeze everything form the manga into some few episodes), but I figured the production value (art, animation, backgrounds, etc.) was pretty good.
The art in my opinion was ‘alright’… They abused the art with ecchi scenes every 4 minutes (which we didn’t need) which ruined my appeal level for the art… :\ Then again I might’ve been harsh…
The only thing I will say is you have a LOT of series to watch. I love KamiNomi and OreImo but it's not worth the Year's Top 10 because there were already too many brilliant series that aired. My list would only have Kuragehime, Bakemonogatari and Durarara!!, the latter being the top, how can it be number 5?! 0.0
Because I have no favourite genre and everything I watch or read is based on my appeal level of that anime or manga. So basically… whatever floats my boat? xD
It was very hard in deciding where goes where Kyo. T__T (Note to self: Must polish up on my editorial work)
Offfcourse tofu, you WOULD put yoko—i mean K ON in number1 (it's dango here <3 )
You know me too good Dan ;P
2010 was a better year than I remembered. After I read your post it got me to reminiscing. This is probably what I would have come up with. That there is so little overlap is a good indication of the wide selection of decent titles this past year.
1. Yojou-han Shinwa Taikei
2. Full Metal Alchemist – Brotherhood
3. Sarai-ya Goyou
4. Katanagatari
5. Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin
6. Armed Librarians – The Book of Bantorra
7. Durarara
8. Shiki
9. Angel Beats
10. Letter Bee
Slice of life is not my favorite type of anime but done well is some of my favorite shows: Azumanga Daioh is one, Full Metal Panic Fumoffu (I know, some ppl say this isn't slice of life, but it is IMO, just based on characters from an action anime) one of the funniest animes ever made (PO-NY) is another. Plus Ouran High School Host Club for my guilty pleasure, lol. and now I'm enjoying K-ON thanks to your recommendation. thanx Tofu
Yay! Another person who likes K-On XD *cough* (Even though I'm absolutely bias up top and didn't fully elaborate why I love K-On so much) :P
Fumoffu was a hilarious show and towards me, I can see why people won't call it a slice-of-life but it's got a bit in it. More of school-life though ;D Even though I say that, you should believe what you yourself believe.
