Renn’s Top 5 Anime of 2010

Hey, Renn here. So in case you hadn’t heard, Tofu’s been kicked out of Sekijitsu. Yeah sure, he makes it sound like it was his personal choice, but here at Sekijitsu, we value honest journalism. So I’ll admit we kicked him out, and I’m not sad to see him go.

One of the major reasons we got rid of him is because he recently wrote “Tofu’s Top 10 2010 Anime,” and even though it was immensely popular for some utterly bizarre reason, Bass realized he hired a guy with horrible taste. At Sekijitsu, we value quality and that requires a refined taste for anime. Tofu just couldn’t make the cut. Who the hell would put Durarara!!, Bakemonogatari, or Kuragehime on a top 10 list? And flipping K-ON!! Those girls are so hideous and annoying.

So I’ve decided to revise all that by releasing my own Top 5 2010 anime post. I wasn’t around the anime scene in 2010, but I’ve been playing catch-up and have completed a grand total of twelve shows. I’ve watched the first episodes from some mediocre series like The Tatami Galaxy, Arakawa Under the Bridge, and House of Five Leaves, but while they’re entertaining, they just can’t compare to the series I’ve selected here.

So no worries, no worries. I won’t subject you to some list with no-name series like Durarara!! or some pedestrian series like Shiki. I can assure you my taste is impeccable.

5: Yosuga no Sora

Without a doubt the best love story of the year. I admit I can be a bit of a sap, but I was in tears when Yosuga no Sora ended. Since I have my own imouto, let me just say I could really relate to Haruka’s struggle to resist having sex with his younger twin sister. I mean, the thought of banging my own sister is… okay, that’s nasty, let’s not go there, but man, I realized Haruka’s love runs deep. There’s nothing more touching than desiring your own flesh and blood.

And while the love between Sora and Haruka is undeniably profound, I also have to give credit to the rest of the cast. They’re all extraordinarily developed girls with their own distinct personalities. The only major flaw with Yosuga no Sora (and reason why it’s not higher on my list) is that Kozue never gets her own arc. I just love how selfless and how non-judgmental she is, and it’s such a shame she never gets a chance to get into Haruka’s pants.

4: Starry Sky

What amazes me is how people always complain about blatant harem anime. Harem anime is incredibly complex; the trick is to picture yourself as the hero. If you do that, suddenly, all these different hot girls are in love with you. But if that is a little tough for you, I have a better alternative. Reverse harems.

People say reverse harems are just harems for women, perhaps even more shallow than their male-targeted counterparts. That’s complete BS. Firstly, harems aren’t shallow. Secondly, to see the depth of a reverse harem look no further than Starry Sky. Tsukiko Yahisa is the only girl at what used to be a boys-only school. You know what that means, right? All of the gorgeous boys fall in love with her. All twelve of them.

If you want character development, look no further than this series. The reason these boys fall in love with Tsukiko is so incredibly deep. Take, for example, Yoh. He falls in love with her because she didn’t make fun of the fact that he’s half-French when they were children! That’s just so brilliant. And the whole series is like that. To anyone who mocks harems and reverse harems, let me tell you the genre supplies true gems like Starry Sky.

3: Togainu no Chi

It’s got action… Action and yaoi. Simply the perfect formula.

2: Seikon no Qwaser

Okay, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is good, but it’s far from the best shounen of 2010. Seikon no Qwaser is simply a masterpiece. The mechanism of powering up by drinking breast milk is absolutely a brilliant one, and it makes for some delightful fanservice without feeling like the series is actually catering to fans. Because you know, Sasha needs to power-up somehow, and the fanservice is just brilliantly built inherent to the plot.

Without a doubt, I’m really looking forward to season 2 in the upcoming spring season so that we can see the conclusion to this remarkable series (though really, I’m hoping it keeps up until a season 3! The reason here might be a little shallow–I just love how the series depicts boobs).

But I really wanted to get this on the list for 2010 because it might not make it next year… With series like Lotte’s Toy (where a ten-year-old gets her power from drinking semen) coming up, Seikon no Qwaser may become all the less exceptional. Oh, anime. I just love how you grow as a medium.

1: Ironman

Really, could my number one have been anything else? I loved the Hollywood Ironman movies, but this Madhouse production just blows them out of the water. The script is inspired, the characters are deep, and the plot is intricately crafted. In short, there could be no other anime more deserving as the best of 2010.

So yeah, that’s my top 5. Keep in mind these aren’t just my top five favorites; these are the five best anime of 2010 that I recommend every go see. Take that, Tofu!

Sora would be the most talented mahou shoujo ever.

    • /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\ says:

I think it would be better to invest with the cast of Starry Sky. I see boundless potential there.

      • /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\ says:

I have no desire to inappropriately touch anyone from Starry Sky except maybe the dude who looks kind of like Grell from Kuroshitsuji. /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\

Ehh, is that a redhead? But at least consider Haruka as a worthier candidate than Sora.

  • Foshizzel says:

    LOLOLL Crazy :D

    HAruka ftw <3

    • /人◕ ‿‿ ◕人\ says:

Haruka is a real man. He didn't just bag those girls; he banged them. Puts him heads and shoulders over most male leads.

  • yvoonmanga says:

    wow!! great post!!

a lot is bishies there!! aaah…<3

    …did u guys really kick Tofu off…?

My recent post K-ON debuting in NYC!!!

  • yvoonmanga says:

please do not talk too badly about Tofu :(

to some, he may have had a few odd choices for his top 10 choices for Fav anime, but everyone had a right to thier own opinion right? that was why it was called "Tofu's Top 10 Anime Choices"

and i still hope that Tofu will be able to continue writing..
My recent post K-ON debuting in NYC!!!

  • I agree on kicking him out. The gall of him to rate Bake, Drr!! and Kuragehime so low! I rather liked Ironman.

    • I disliked him and I will once again say his a jerk. The fact that he likes BRS as well makes things worst.
My recent post Star Driver 24

    • Renn says:

Unfortunately, he came back. Blah. :p

Ah. I wasn't a huge fan of Ironman, but I doubt it's the worst show of 2010. I just picked it because it seemed the most popular big name to hate on. Sorry! :o

  • Lunierre says:

April fools, darlings. I honestly could not comprehend how anyone with real taste could exclude FMA from the top five and even to go as far as saying an abomination like Seikon no Qwaser was better than it.

Good job. I did find this post quite humorous.

    • Renn says:

I agree absolutely. Now that April Fools is completely over, I can safely say FMA: B is my number one anime of 2010. I can't say I hated Seikon no Qwaser, but I can't not say it's absolutely terrible. :p

      Thank you very much! :)

  • Jérémy says:

OMG! I totally though you were serious until I saw you're choices for the top… XD good one!

  • vrgl101 says:

to be frank, i prefer tofu's list. an ironman for a #1 rank? HELL NO! and yaois too? u have a bad taste renn.

    • Tofu says:

      AHAHAHAHAHA! vrgl, to be frank… you just fell for an old April Fools trap ;D Take note that the post was posted on April 1st. In other words, this was supposed to be a troll post to be being with but thanks for preferring my list over this one ^^ I'd be quite shocked if Yaoi and Iron Man won over my list OTL Don't feel too bad ^^;
