Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi Episode 0

...Es la cama de senpai <3 You know what that means.

Oh DEEN, Winter 2011 was just not your season. Dragon Crisis! was atrocious, and Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka?! went downhill after episode 6. Neither were quite as bad as Rio: Rainbow Gate, but that’s not exactly saying much. However, there is one thing that Studio DEEN never ceases to amaze me with: it’s bishies! After checking out this OVA, I can safely say that the fangirls are in for a real treat this season~

I was pretty desperate to get high quality screenshots for this one since it was only subbed on streaming sites and I’m impatient, so I ended up downloading it in Spanish. Just watch though, there will probably be like 20 torrents English subbed right after I post this. “OTL

Anyway, back on topic, this OVA starts out with Onodera Ritsu, our main protagonist and uke, who finds himself smitten one day by his book-loving senpai  in the library. After knowing of his existence for about 2 minutes, he goes on super-stalker mode and proceeds to stare at him from behind bookshelves for three years, and even finds out that his name is Saga Masamune by borrowing the same library books. Now, if that isn’t dedication, I don’t know what is.

After the three year stalking period, Ritsu finally works up the nerve to confess one day in the library (well, more like he accidentally blurts out his feelings, but I still say he’s got balls…kinda. AT LEAST HE ACKNOWLEDGED HE WAS GAY! I cannot tell you how many times I bang my head against the wall when they try to pretend they aren’t. ) Much to his surprise, Saga agrees to go out with him despite knowing nothing about him or even what his name is, and thus, the two become an item. And of course, since this is yaoi, the first thing that happens is Saga invites Ritsu to la casa de senpai~

While at his house, not only does Saga witness Ritsu sniffing his pillow while he thinks nobody is looking, but he also learns that Ritsu has stalked him so much that he even knows the history behind his pet cat. Now I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m sensing some real yandere potential here.

After a bunch of words are exchanged that nobody really cares about and most people probably fast-forwarded and a little bit of making out, we finally reach the main event. Now let’s not play dumb: I know why you’re here, so please enjoy the eye candy that you’ve suffered through my tl;dr to get to:

The couple meet again two days later to do some studying….only it’s not as easy as it sounds. Ritsu is unable to focus on his work because he’s too distracted thinking about Saga’s unusually thick, luscious lips pressed against his in a passionate embrace as they do the deed- in fact, he’s so flustered that he accidentally goes to get a dictionary for math homework. Saga decides that clearly this OVA didn’t have enough fanservice, and before you know it, the two start getting it on once again in the library.

…but unfortunately, before it gets to the good part,  25-year old Ritsu wakes up in an editing department after passing out under a pile of books. As it turns out, it was all a dream/flashback that Ritsu seems to have forgotten, and Saga Masamune is actually Takano Masamune, his boss! What does this mean? I guess we’ll have to wait for the anime to find out!

Thoughts:

Just in case you still haven’t had enough yaoi on this site, here I am with my impeccable timing to bring you EVEN MORE YAOI GOODNESS! I have a funny feeling we’ve scared off quite a few guys by now…

Anyone who was hoping for a season 3 of Junjou Romantica, you basically got your wish. Ritsu and Takano are practically the same characters as Misaki and Usami, though much MUCH prettier in my opinion. I’m very glad that they changed the character design for Takano a bit from the manga. LESS SQUARE CHINS=HAPPY ELYON! As much as I loved Junjou, I always found it hard to get past Usami’s horse face and old man hair. I also happen to have a fetish for black hair and glasses. But am I the only one who thinks Ritsu is better looking in high school with the part in his bangs? Older Ritsu looks too much like Misaki to me, and at least before he was a bit more distinguishable.

I guess I probably shouldn’t have expected anything less, but MY GOD Takano is such a horndog! It was literally like “S-SUKI DA YO SENPAI!” “Orly? Let’s have smex!” It definitely lacked the proper build-up, but then again, I guess they wanted to hook in the fangirls right from the beginning. You also have to take into consideration the fact that it was all a dream too. Maybe when the actual series starts the characters will actually date for a bit first, as unlikely as that sounds, instead of just hopping into bed immediately. B-because obviously that’s what I want…>////>

Although a bit cheesy, I found details like the cherry blossoms and the blowing curtains to be a nice touch. I’ll admit that once the dramatic background music started playing and the entire library suddenly became engulfed in curtains as the ceiling rained cherry blossom petals from god knows where, I was kyaaa-ing like crazy in my head (not out loud, because my family would lock me outside the house.) Maybe that’s just me, but I enjoyed how everything was very pleasing to the eyes.

For now the actual series seems promising, though I guess I’m a bit biased with my opinon. All bias aside though, the chemistry between the characters here was just great. Albeit for the most part the interactions between characters were very similar to Junjou Romantica, it doesn’t change the fact that it was still well-written. I do wish they had taken a more original approach though.

So who else here is excited for the actual show to start airing? I’m curious to see how many other fujoshi’s there are around Sekijitsu~ Fufufufufufufufu.

    That is weirdly rare for anime characters. o.0 Well, I'll give it credit for that at least. In most anime, homosexuality doesn't exist. Just yaoi. And BL.

      I'm glad they did it that way. I always find the whole "seme rapes the uke who insists he doesn't like it but secretly does" thing to be annoying. Maybe that's just my natural hatred toward most tsunderes…

    Why is everything funnier and dirtier in Spanish? o.o

    Ritsu is the most spineless creature ever… I was so relieved that when he woke up, his current time self was frazzled and bitter. I was so tired of "uggguuuu I'm so sorry…*uke noises for no reason*…seennpaaaiiii." Cute at first, but a bit too much. Aside from Ritsu…this OVA definitely achieved it's goal of making fangirls everywhere quite happy. Mm hmm. *licks lips a little*

      I didn't particularly like Ritsu either, but as far as ukes go I didn't think he was too bad. I enjoyed the stalking~
      I definitely prefer him over Misaki, who I wanted to beat over the head with a sack of potatoes, drug, and throw into the nearest river at times. P:

    Unfortunately, the closest I can think about Yaoi while seeing your screenshots of those two dudes kissing is Haurhi and Tamaki kissing from Ouran.

    Excellent post, I don't see many bloggers blogging Yaoi these days so this was definitely a treat :p. Also I thought I was the only one who had a problem with Usami's trapezoid chin, Hatsukoi atleast has a guy that looks like nowaki which is instant win in my book. Looking forward to your posts on this series!

      AHA! I thought I was the only one too! Everyone I know who likes Junjou loves his character design for some reason, but I always preferred Nowaki too.

      I wish they had gone with a pairing more like Hiro x Nowaki too to be honest (they were my favorite <3 ) but at least these guys are pretty xD Ritsu seems a bit more mature than Misaki.

    even though ritsu has 2 flashbacks of it so far they still dont kno it was takano ?!
