Steins;Gate 03

Mayushi is kind of perfect for starting the Hanazawa Yandere train.

I’ve decided that Mayushi is a bit of an anomaly when it comes to anime. Usually a female’s reaction to conversation of a sexual nature in anime is that of disdain or scorn. However Mayushi, like most woman in the real world, realize that its just part of life and get over it, reacting appropriately based on how light-hearted and/or perverted the conversation is. Ranting about this seems a bit pointless in the context of Swines;Date but it just seems like one of those things that anime still can’t get over. I don’t think it’s a Japanese thing either since Japan is a country that had a whole ad campaign based on getting people to start fucking more since their birth rate is declining.

It’s this weird trend in anime that girls (and many guys) are too precious to talk about perversion, reacting too it like a twelve year old nun in the middle of a sex-ed class. I will have you know that during one of my class this semester I had a very long and interesting discussion with a female friend about the political, social and economic benefits of the hand job. We discussed in full and quite loudly in front of the rest of the class how the hand job was the more convenient version of the blow job, but was a weak substitute and that as a service was worth less since a man could easily perform it on himself. A self blow job is a tad more difficult. It was a very stimulating conversation, fufufufu~

Tits, bro, it's all about the tits!

I am pretty sure that Mayushi will turn out to be a villain. Maybe so will the pink haired girl whose name I forgot because she didn’t appear in the episode. Oh, Feyris-tan. I just get the feeling that Mayushi is involved in some bad things, I also have Suzuha down as currently the most likely suspect of stabbing Christina in the first episode. Going back and really paying attention to that scene lead to some pretty interesting discoveries. The first being that Mayushi is the only person that was with Okarin when the ‘jump’ happened between the time parallels. The second being that if you listen to it very carefully, the scream that lead Okarin to finding the body was almost definitely Mamoru Miyano. And finally that Okarin’s phone is vibrating the entire time that he is looking in shock at Christina’s body.

Working hard on that creeper smile.

Since I don’t find it interesting to suspect Okarin of being John Titor, since they already pulled that trick in Chaos;Head and it wasn’t good, I’ve decided that the current most likely candidate of being John Titor is Daru. I’m doing this based off of Okarin would know as John Titor that he’s talking to himself based on self knowledge and since Daru is the smartest person in the show. Something that was interesting about this episode was the explanation of divergence lines between the parallel worlds. Titor said that if he were to go back in time and kill someone then everyone in the present would lose the memories of that person, not just that person from the time of death onwards.

Though I think that this was just poor writing and that it means that they lose the memories from death onwards, you know, what everyone thinks happens when people are killed after time travel. Well that or everything just explodes. However what Titor explains didn’t actually happen. Christina is killed but instead of everyone forgetting her the world and the world diverging, the world instead completely switched to another one when she was alive. Let’s run this down and see if we can figure the events out.

Swiftly approved.

Here’s the chronology of what happened:

  1. Okarin and Mayushi enter an undamaged building to see the presentation.
  2. Okarin experiences what we can assume to be the satellite crashing and rushes to the roof (it should be mentioned that other people also experience the shake).
  3. When on the roof he sees the satellite simply sitting there at which point someone runs forward and makes a cross symbol with their hands, this person is almost obviously Amane Suzuha; our CRT enthusiast.
  4. After seeing this Okarin gets a text from Mayushi (Point A) that leads into the presentation.
  5. During the presentation Okarin gets another text from Mayushi about the metal oopa being lost (Point B).
  6. Makise then pulls Okarin out of the presentation asking him what he was trying to tell her fifteen minutes ago.
  7. After Okarin leaves he gets a text with a video file of what appears to be static (Point C).
  8. Then Okarin meets up with Mayushi he hears the scream and then runs off to find dead Makise with his phone vibrating the entire time (Point D).
  9. Then he meets up with Mayushi again and sends the text to Daru about Makise being stabbed (Point E).

Yep, definitely looks weird without the coat.

So, now have to consider two things. The first being that since the satellite was just sitting on the roof, and this is a show about time travel, I am going to assume that it was a time machine. The second is that with Makise talking about Okarin’s warning and the time machine being safe and then being part of the building, I am also going to assume that we will return to Okarin’s original world by the end of the show. Also the episode was called “The Prologue of the Beginning and the End” which is sort of telling. I will assume that Suzuha is a time traveller and that John Titor is Daru from here on out.

I’m pretty sure Mayushi will turn out to be a villain, but not necessarily the person who stabbed Makise. But Mayushi is the only person to be in contact with Okarin during his world switch and she also broke the time machine by “accident”. Airheaded people like that are destined to be yanderes. No point trying to assume anything else for this week, next week should be interesting hopefully. Also, talk about Large Hadron Colliders only made me thing about Freeman-tan and how well space-time escapades worked out for him.

These are some interesting ideas and good observations. Personally I am suspicious of every girl that has been introduced. They all seem either too friendly or yandere material or both. I don't know what to make of the satellite at all. It just seems perplexing, but I am sure that you are right that it will be explained as an essential part of the plot.

  • So Flags, what do you think Moeka's (the text girl who's looking for the IBN) role in all this? We've only seen her once and that was in episode 2. Is it too soon to say anything about her?

I can't really see how Daru is John Titor though, could you explain it with more depth if possible?

I've actually thought the same with Titors theory of having multiple parallel time lines. If you were to kill someone in timeline A but left that person alone in timeline B then the people living in timeline A would consider that person as dead thus, any future actions his taken in timeline B doesn't exist in timeline A. I think that's what he was trying to say in the anime. Though it does make sense if you really think about it.

Considering Christina's death, when she died Okarin witnessed her being dead but at the end of the episode saw her still alive. To explain this, here's what I think. After she died, the world splitted into two lines. Let's say everything occurred in timeline A. After Okarin sent that text, the people in the world disappeared and blah blah blah. Okarin himself was transferred to the other timeline (timeline B ) without noticing. In timeline B, Christina is still alive and so no one ever heard of her death while in timeline A, her death is still played out and who knows what they have done to her body by now. To also explain this, Okarin did say that he attended the presentation by Hakase a few days ago or something (can't remember) but the main thing is, Daru corrects him and says that it wasn't that long ago, it was way before, longer than that. this time skip allowed Christina to live on since she never went to the presentation. And so we now have two worlds. Timeline A with Christina's death and Timeline B with Christina still alive and the world Okarin is currently in.

PS: I know her name isn't Christina really but I felt like saying it ^^

Neat theories. If a similar trick was employed in Chaos;Head (didn't see it), then it probably is unlikely that Okarin is John Titor. Not sold it's Daru, but we'll see.

I agree with another commenter that all the girls look suspicious though except for Makise (since she was the lucky girl who got stabbed). I like Mayushi and wouldn't mind if she turned out a psycho yandere. I'm not sure if she actually is though. If anything, this show is good at building up its mystery. :)

  • I wondered why the scream was so absolutely MALE when it was Kurisu who was murdered. I never made the link between the cell phone ringing and Mayuri's presence though. She might just know more than she lets on (that or she's accidentally doing some crazy time-shifting stuff). At this point EVERYONE looks suspicious though…
