Ano Hana ED Single [Secret Base - Kimi ga Kureta Mono]

I recently became hooked with the music of Ano Hana and with the ED released in Japan already, I’ve been listening to it non-stop. There’s something sweet and tragic about the song, especially given the drama in the show. It definitely matches the mood of the series and it’s one of my favorite themes of the season.
The song is sung by the three female seiyuus of the show: Kayano Ai (Menma), Tomatsu Haruka (Anaru) & Hayami Saori (Tsuruko). There is an original version out there somewhere with the original artist SCANDAL, but I’m only going to link to the anime version.
I rarely post downloads to ED and OP for series but I’ve been really smitten with this particular one, so check out the youtube clips below and see if this is your thing too.
It goes without saying that this download is for assessing purposes only and if you like what you hear, do the industry a favor and purchase the single online. It doesn’t cost much and you will definitely feel much better for it :)

Nice song, i really like these types of songs where multiple characters sing (Kimi ni Todoke <3). Im interested in getting this (and many other thing), but im not so sure about Amazon.co.jp and whether they ship to England, and then there's import tax.
I favorited the Youtube video as i can see myself listening to this again and at nearly 6 minutes long it never feels too long.

I ended up buying it from Ebay, since Amazon doesn't ship to NZ. Which totally sucks "OTL
This is my first purchase for anime related goods. I just hope this isn't a gateway to more things in the future, since I don't really want to spend too much on stuff that isn't DVDs/Blurays lol

The original band (as far as I know) to perform this song was actually called Zone. They released the single in 2001, coincidentally, 10 years ago.
Wow this is a real old song then. I'll have to look out for that original version. Didn't realize Scandal's was a cover, although checking out the lyrics it would make sense as a cover for this anime

Good listen. The seiyuu team's version has a much softer feel to it while SCANDAL's has the bolder vocals. Ended up liking both lol.
My recent post Review Kimi ni Todoke Season 2
I actually quite like the bold version too. Definitely a different mix for different tastes. Both are equally awesome though.

It's a sweet song although j-pop is not really my thing. I had no idea it was performed by the seiyuus though–they do a good job. Much better than that terrifying opening to Denpa Onna. :p
The thumbnail shot (the album art, I'm guessing?) is gorgeous. *_* Not that the girls don't look great in the header image, but I'd love to see a scene with their hair whipping in the wind like that. :D
Haha yea, Pop anything is usually something that I will laugh my ass at but it seems to fit this anime a lot, so I didn't mind it as much. (Denpa Onna's OP is horrible, but I checked out the lyrics to it and it totally matches that anime to a T lol)
The download includes all the artwork from the booklet inslip, so you can check out the awesome bonus art in high-res glory.

I also got hooked with Ano Hana's songs, but more particularly with he OP song–Aoi Shiori by Galileo Galilei. However I agree, the songs fit truly to the mood.

Can't wait for them to release the OP, I love the start to it.
It's actually stuck in my head right now

That's one enjoyable song and I really do like the singer's light steps on the lovely backdrop of guitars which weave an elaborate fabric that puts you in a state of comfort with its mellowness. Something I can look forward to when I give that show a watch.
You haven't seen the show? You should definitely check it out. The OP is pretty good too

Thanks Bass. Now we're ALL listening to the same thing…
I can direct you to the HanaIro/Denpa Onna OP if you want haha.

I actually have the Hanasaku OP (and ED; haha) but I wouldn't mind Denpa Onna if you're recommending it…
The ED Secret Base -Kimi ga Kurete mono- has quite a history. The full title of ED version, sang by the 3 voice actresses portraying Menma, Anaru, and Tsuruko , is called: secret base 〜君がくれたもの〜(10 years after Ver.) The “10 years after” has double meaning. The events in the story is about 10 years after Menma’s death. It also refers to the original release 10 years ago on August 8th, 2001 by zone. When it first came out, the song propelled Zone to the top tier of girl bands in Japan at the time. The song went as high as #2 in Japanese POP chart, and was in top 10 for 11 weeks in 2001.
The original music video for this song can be found here:

Yes, they were little kids when this song came out. The oldest band member, Takayo, was 14, and the youngest band member and the main vocalist for the band, Miyu, was 11.
Takayo left the band in 2003. The rest of the band broke up in 2005, at the height of the Band’s popularity. The band chose to end the final live concert with this song, which was considered the signature song for the band. This part of the concert was simultaneously shown to a live national audience on TV.
The final live concert version from 2005 is on youtube:

I am certain, but I see at least 10 versions of this song by Zone on youtube. The song remains popular for many in Japan even now. The ED version single for this song once again ended up in the top 10 chart in Japan when it first came out in May.
Following the lyric of “I believe we will meet again in August in 10 years”, Zone is coming back for a revival concert in August, 10 years after the original release of this song. The version by Scandal will be featured in the upcoming band revival celebration album with 10 songs from 10 female bands, each singing one of the original songs by Zone.
wow thanks for the info Onidori. Anyway, do this Nipponsei release got scans with it?
