Amagami SS OVA

You might be a brocon if...
Contrary to how it may look, there actually isn’t any real incest in this OVA or I doubt I’d be blogging it. However, it’s finally time for everyone’s favorite imouto, Miya “nishishi” Tachibana, to take the spotlight that she so rightfully deserved during the rest of the anime! Where I dreaded the imouto arc in Yosuga No Sora and anything having to do with bitchdere Sora in general, I couldn’t wait for it in Amagami SS, mainly because Miya is just so…lovable!
In case you missed some of Junichi’s infamous epic fails, the episode begins with him falling flat on his face after Miya is unable to wake him up for school. As the two head out, Umehara stops Junichi on the way to share with him some imouto-themed porn. Naturally, being the caring little sister that she is, Miya becomes concerned that he’ll never be able to find himself a girlfriend if he keeps up some of his habits. Despite the fact that both Ai and Sae tell her that they, much to her surprise, actually have very high opinions of her brother, she decides to take it upon herself to stalk him in order to find out if he acts differently in school than at home.

Nanasaki: "....."

Miya: "...DID YOU JUST FART?!"
I’m not even kidding when I say practically the entire first half consisted of first Miya stalking Junichi all around the school and then Miya and Risa joining forces to stalk him all around the school. I’d say “lucky bastard”, but when one is your sister and the other is a yandere….yeah.
Miya finds herself astonished that her own nii-nii is not only on good terms with her two friends, who both happen to be pretty girls, but a lot of gorgeous bishoujos who go to their school. And yet, she can’t figure out one thing: if he’s surrounded by so many girls all of the time, then why can’t he get a girlfriend? At first she’s baffled, but after recalling how he was holding hands with Umehara and saying things like “I love you”, she starts to wonder if there was more to that than just two friends joking around. As much as I’d love it if this was true (UMEHARA END FTW!!!), she decides to confront him about it, only to have her suspicions completely blown away by Junichi’s proclaimation that he loves sexy women. So if that’s the case, she wonders, why can’t he get a girlfriend? Could he possibly be holding out for someone in particular?
The next day, Miya discusses with Risa her relief that he doesn’t like boys as well as the fact that he’s sure to get a girlfriend soon as the two go shopping together. But Risa being, well, Risa, starts getting really creepy when on the subject of Junichi having a girlfriend, heavily implying that she herself is the only one suitable for him- not that Miya picks up on that, of course. Their conversation, however, is cut short as an adorable guy from the class across from hers calls her over and confesses. The poor guy is so genuine and sweet about it that the inevitable rejection was sort of painful to watch, but I suppose the incestuous undertones would be lost if she had done otherwise. Later she wonders if maybe, just as she’s unsure of her feelings on dating, her brother is the same way.

This is what I call trying too hard to sound straight...
Miya’s thoughts are interrupted by the sound of a stray cat, which she attempts to sneak home only to end up caught by Junichi. He reminds her that their parents don’t like pets, then explains that it probably has parents of it’s own who are looking for it somewhere, which makes her feel guilty for just bringing it home without thinking.
The two decide to go out and search for the kitten’s mother, but after fruitlessly searching for a while and the temperature outside becoming too low for the kitten to survive on it’s own, they become worried about just leaving it to freeze even if it does have a mom out there somewhere. Just as they decide on taking it home though, the kitten’s mother crawls out and they’re happily reunited. Much to Miya’s shock, the kitten starts attacking it’s mother, but Junichi says that it’s just play-biting, which is common among cats to show their love. So inspired by this concept is Miya that on the way home she decides to try it for herself, attacking Junichi and gnawing on his flesh to show her similar love.

Out of the two extra arcs, I have to say I preferred Risa’s over this one (yandere bias? P-shawwwwww!) Nakata Sae still stands as my favorite Amagami girl though (as much as that makes people hate me…;w; ) Still, this was a nice little OVA that really fleshed out Miya Tachibana, who had always played such a minor role yet still managed to stand out in the anime, and it also gave some new depth to Risa, whose moment in the spotlight seemed way too short. As expected, it had some incestuous undertones that were especially apparent during the “love-biting” scene, but I think it was, for the most part, about the bond between a brother and sister.
The humor in this OVA was pretty good aside from a few irksome cliches that they just didn’t need to resort to. *Cough*

Shower scene?! FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-
Come on, Amagami, you’re above this stuff! What happened to the days of kissing behind the knee, girls transforming into miso soup, and tentacle rape? There were a few pretty hilarious moments though, like Morishima-senpai asking Junichi to sleep with him like her dog and the stalker tag-team of Risa and Miya, but it wasn’t as “WTF”-worthy as I remember the anime being.
I thought it was pretty interesting how all of the story arcs so far seemed to cross together. In a way, this was more like a harem end that included Miya (and, arguably, Umehara) rather than her own end though, but I’m kind of okay with that. Overall, I really enjoyed this episode, but I wish the writers would start doing acid again so they could produce more lulz. Amagami SS is at it’s best when it isn’t taking itself too seriously, as was the case with the Sae arc.
If I had to rank my favorite arcs (not girls), they would be: 1. Morishima Haruka, 2. Nakata Sae, 3. Ayatsuji Tsukasa, 4. Kamizaki Risa, 5. Tanamachi Kaoru, 6. Sakurai Rihoko, 7. Tachibana Miya, 8. Nanasaki Ai. What about you guys?

I enjoyed the series quite a bit, i could never give it a high rating due to its reset nature, all arcs are interesting with each female character being different. Stupid Rihoko arc being a major bummer. Risa as a yandere was rather disappointing in that she didn't kill anybody (Gasai Yuno needs to to teach her the ways) but her story was pretty decent.
This was enjoyable because it had a similar feel as OreImo in that the incest is VERY light and never really of the romantic type, its just a brother and sister who are close. Miya is probably the best character int he Amagami franchise, her laugh is infectious (seriously if anybody follows me on Twitter i use it occasionally, ni shi shi shi) and when ever she made an appearance during the main series she mostly stole the episode just from that brief appearance. The story was for what its worth pretty boring, but Miya made up for that and i finally realised what Amagami actually meant :p. I hate Junichi, he's just so bland, he even looks bland, his face screams for a punch but that may be down to the art style of the show.
Favorite arcs: Morishima Haruka, Ayatsuji Tsubasa, Risa, Kaoru, Miya, Sae, Nanasaki Ai, Rihoko. Sae would be last had it not been for that outfit in the cinema and the small role of T.Ks voice actor (Angel Beats). Ayatsuji and Morishima future epilogues were simply too brilliant, (i am a sucker for future epilogues).
I demand a Takahashi Maya arc!

I still get bummed out thinking about poor Rihoko getting screwed over like that ;___;
Haha it's hard not to love Miya and that laugh~ Although I didn't love her arc as much as I hoped, she's probably one of my favorite characters too. Junichi….needs to get punched in the face. I would love it if Risa's yandere colors really came out one day and she killed him or something…School Days-like end ftw? >:3
It's so hard to choose favorites because, to be honest, the only one I DIDN'T like was Nanasaki Ai's arc. ><
Takahashi Maya as a heroine would be so awesome though! It would be nice if they made a second season or something…

There is always hope in the OVA this year for Nanasaki and Rihoko if they decide to adapt the best route of the game.

Ah, that's right! I forgot that they were making that!! Let's cross our fingers then and hope that Rihoko gets some love xD

I liked this arc as well short but fun and more Nisihihihi always a good thing :P
Nice to see how they kind of kept all the arcs as one complete story! No characters going huh? I never went out with him, I always found that strange how the others were like huh..what happened.
Worst character had to be the brown haired stalker! Aaaah go away!
YES! MORE NISHISHI!! >:D
Yeah, I liked how they sort of tied all of the stories together in the end too. It was nice, and different from the others.
Awww I loved Risa and her stalker-ness XD Haha~

Ai Nanasaki is superior Amagami SS girl. I admit though that this imouto arc is good, liked it!
I thought Ai's arc was a complete trainwreck, and her character kind of bored me >_< But everyone has their own preferences. I liked Miya's arc too- it was a fitting ending for the series. :3
