No.6 02

....it's not yaoi, I swear.
As you can see, I decided not to blog Blood-C after all. Part of that is because the ratio of Saya acting insufferably cute to epic vampire fights just didn’t seem balanced enough, part of it was because apparently the singing is going to be a recurring thing, part of it was because the pacing issues were even worse in the second episode, and part of it was just because I HATE this Saya.
So No.6 it is! Maybe it’s just my fate to blog BL…
Okay, so this episode starts by showing that four years have passed since Shion helped Nezumi escape, and since then he’s become a park supervisor. One peaceful day while diligently working at his job, a security camera picks up a dead old man laying in the middle of the park. Upon further inspection, he notices a moving black mark on his neck that looks like it’s sucking him dry.

But more importantly, PENGUINS.
Later, Shion and Safu meet for coffee after having not seen each other since Shion was kicked out of Chronos for harboring a fugitive. He explains to her that he was disqualified from the gifted program but doesn’t tell her the reasons, and we also learn that Safu is going to be studying abroad. Now that the two have been reacquainted, Safu decides to ask Shion to take off his pants and screw her RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW, to which he responds with something along the lines of o_O. After telling her maybe in like two years, he hears Nezumi’s voice coming from a rat passing by, and finds himself ditching her to run after the rat (and you can’t really blame him. Safu is a little bit…off.) Unfortunately for him though, he loses Nezumi before they can be reunited.

Er..well...but I'd rather stay fr-

O______O
Shion returns to work disappointed that he couldn’t see Nezumi again. He learns then that the government seems to be withholding information about the incident with the dead man in the park from the public, but when he mentions it, his coworker scolds him for saying such blasphemous things. Then he shrivels up and dies, and a wasp comes out of his neck. As if Shion isn’t freaked out enough, the Security Bureau show up to take him to a correctional facility.
On the way there, the car stops when another penguin (as if there weren’t enough penguins this season) appears in the middle of the road. Then Nezumi pops out from under the bridge, beats up the goons, and jacks the car with Shion inside. However, the car is remote controlled, so Nezumi BLOWS IT UP LIKE A BOSS as they jump out.

Nezumi and Shion make it to another car that he already had waiting for him, and Shion throws away his ID bracelet, almost as though he’s throwing away the life he’s always known. There’s no way he can ever return now. The two manage to bust through the gate that surrounds No.6 and dive into a waste management facility (with a rat as their lovely guide.) They swim through the dirty water and escape the guards, then Nezumi takes Shion outside to the “real world” that is to be his new home. What he sees is far from pretty, especially in the eyes of someone who knows only the extravagance of the world he’s been living in (even if he lived in the lower parts of town), but like it or not this is the only place he can go.

Let’s face it: 11 episodes isn’t going to be enough to tell this story. The ending is inevitably going to be either open-ended or really rushed, and even if it’s the latter there will probably still be some loose ends left hanging. This story is unfortunately just too big for Noitamina. At the moment, however, this is an incredibly solid series, so I plan to just sit back and enjoy the ride while fangirling over Nezumi.
Considering how slow things started out, I was surprised at how intense this episode was. The government is undeniably up to no good, but what I’m the most curious about right now are those bug things. That, and about what Nezumi did to become a fugitive in the first place. They said he was being charged with murder, but I think there’s got to be more to it than that, like maybe he saw something he shouldn’t have and was being silenced.

I used to think saying the pledge of allegiance every morning was ridiculous, but this takes the cake.
So far I’m really loving the main characters too- Nezumi is a great foil to Shion, and neither of them feel one-sided or stereotypical. Safu is also pretty interesting, albeit maybe a bit weird and kind of pitiful. I appreciate how she’s so straightforward though. Can you imagine how much shorter shows like Kimi ni Todoke would be if Sawako was all “GIMMEH UR SPERMZ”? I would watch a romance anime with this girl as a protagonist any day. It almost makes me want to ship them….but fangirl law dictates that Nezumi x Shion is the sacred OTP.
Overall, I really liked this episode, probably more than the first. It raised so many questions, and I really love how it seems like they’re building up for something big. It seems like next week they’re going to give us some much-needed explanations, so I can’t wait to see Nezumi shirtless how it goes.
