Figure Spotlight: Itou Kaiji

You’re surprised this isn’t Tofu, aren’t you? Don’t get used to it! This is my very first figure, and probably my second-to-last! But I have to say it (he?) is worth every penny. You should have seen how excited I was waiting for him, and shocked when I saw the package at my doorstep~ He came much more quickly than I expected! For those of you thinking, “‘He’ who? Who’s Kaiji?”, refer to here. tl;dr – Kaiji is a good-for-nothing who likes alcohol, cigarettes, and gambling. (He is also the biggest GAR moeblob ever.) Kaiji essentially gathers a huge debt, which coupled with his gambling addiction, leads him to the craziest and deadliest gambling situations. He tends to survive thanks to his ingenious thinking, but is always screwed over in the end.

In and out - at this moment, I started freaking out because I couldn't find the ざわ…ざわ… (zawa zawa) sign. But here you can see some of the other parts he comes with!

Figure: Itou Kaiji

Company: Max Factor

Camera: Samsung NV100 HD (it’s about the photographer, not the camera… sorry for the crappy pictures “orz)

Model: 103

Height: 150 mm / 14.9 cm / 5.85 in

Price: ¥3333 official; ¥2580 on AmiAmi

Contents: Kaiji; stand; sign holder; (PVC) cards; Steel Frame Crossing beam; ear-drill; laminated paper Restricted Rock-Paper-Scissors cards, E-Card cards, stars patches, ざわ…ざわ… signs (2), and #10 sign/apron; 2 faces (normal/slight smirk, angry, & upset); 5 pairs of hands

Stability: Medium

Fragility: Medium

With the right position, he can stand on his own!

The site I pre-ordered from is AmiAmi, and there were no problems whatsoever with my order. If it’s your first time ordering a figure, you should probably read reviews on different sites – the biggest ones I can think of are AmiAmi and HobbySearch. I’ve heard good and bad for both, although mostly good. Arguably best thing with AmiAmi is that they allow you the option of choosing unregistered SAL, which is very cheap but also very slow, with no tracking. It’s best to use it for small, 1-item packages. I used unregistered SAL, expecting the shipment to take at the very least 20 weeks, but the package arrived in only one week, with no dents or broken parts. That’s right, Bass, his nose did not break off.

dat mullet

It’s really awesome, but if I had to complain, it would be about a few minor things, although only one of them is a serious complaint. First, no crying face and no happy face! Of course, having three options is good, but it’s so sad that Kaiji will never be happy LOL. His standard face does look a bit like a smirk, but it’s not happy-happy. And what’s Kaiji without some manry tears? The >_< face is pretty close, but no tears… I can shrug off it though. Maybe I’ll paint tears on him.

It's hard to keep the "cloth" on because it's paper, so you can't tie it or anything. Tape would work. I wish it were actual cloth though, or maybe plastic.

Secondly, the laminated paper accessories (the zawa zawa signs, the extra cards, his #10 apron thing) could have easily been thrown away, as it’s tucked in a very inconspicuous space between the back of the outer box and behind Kaiji’s box. Additionally, I was disappointed that they were a sort of laminated paper rather than plastic/PVC/whatever (they all came in one sheet, simply push to remove), because that makes them very thin and easily bent, lost, and hard to stick on. But seeing as you get so many accessories, it’s okay they went with the cheaper option.

The only real problem with this figma: his hole is too tight! I'm afraid I'll break him if I push in any further... But if I don't push in more, he'll fall off easily. Maybe over time he'll loosen up.

But: NO AWESOME TISSUE BOX?! The only solution is to make your own! If you don’t watch the show, I guess this makes no sense to you, but all you have to know is that the Scottie tissue box is… AWESOME. (And that this complaint is actually just a joke.) I will seriously make my own Kaiji-sized tissue box. Kaiji deserves to be happy. Anyway, regardless of Kaiji’s happiness, I’m happy! This figma is awesome! Pose-able, funky, funny, a FKMT-fan must have.

Hope this was informative; if not, then at least you have weird pictures to amuse you! This figma isn’t exactly the prettiest, given the FKMT style, but it’s mad fun to mess around with. I actually bought him a “friend” to play with so we could have some more fun! Unfortunately he doesn’t have a crying face, which would be more suitable when this friend arrives… ざわ…ざわ…

Thanks for reading! :)

    That mullet!

I have a personal scale for rating figures; Would i want to own it and would i not. This one i would not. Mainly due to me not liking the series he came from. I love how it comes with lots little extra things and changeable faces though.

I really want to get something from Ami Ami or a similar site but im afraid of import tax.
My recent post First person to send me a message with their favorite Anime (non hentai) and i will watch it…

    • Some people say you're less likely to get billed for VATs/duties/custom fees/whatever if you use unregistered SAL as the shipping method, but I wouldn't count on. It probably doesn't matter which store you buy it from, unless you buy it from one seller (eBay?) who is willing to write down a lower price for your item so you don't get taxed much, or to mark your item as a "gift." One time, however, I marked down an item as a gift and sent it to a girl in Finland, but the girl was charged customs tax anyway, which totally sucked (it was probably because I didn't mark the item value as $0, but as its true value). I felt really bad for her…

  • Fuck yeah, Vivi. Finally, a figure worth buying in this spotlight segment.

People who haven't seen Kaiji don't know SHIT about anime.

  • Lmao, I remember you posting about this a while ago. Glad to see that you bought it! I don't have any figures (yet?), but these posts make them pretty tempting. xD

Are those the Avengers (plus Loki) I see? I can't wait for that movie.

    • haha, I'm also kiiiiind of but not really tempted to get more figures (it depends on the anime), but if I do I would just stick with figmas or pose-able ones with extra accessories. I don't have room for the fancy ones that are just there for looks…

woow, i was quite surprised when it wasn't Tofu. It was too soon for him to do another one.

cool figure though. Cant say it would be something i would get, but all the little features and extras are amazing. I've never seen so many before!

Love the goofy shots, especially the one with the beer bottle can~ :D

Figure Spotlights might seem to be my little thing but that's only because I have heaps of figures and no one else had any ^^ It's definitely a Seki thing and there will always be figure spotlights in the future (whenever anyone of us get any new figures to showcase that is…) ^^

    • I felt really awkward taking the beer from my fridge, since it belongs to my mom and dad! lol

  • Tofu says:

I haven't even seen Kaiji (yeah, I don't know shit, sorry Gene) but it's definitely an awesome figure! XD It's got so much extra stuff it comes with and the shipping method puts Australia to shame because unregistered SAL would take us (or just me) 2 weeks at least which is why I don't use it.

    Ahahahaha, I could never be bothered to move any of my figma's just for the sake of taking pictures lols Yeah, I'm quite the lazy person ^^;

If I have the time to check out Kaiji I will considering its supposedly underrated :P
