Kyousogiga OVA
Winter is so depressing. It’s not just the obscene amounts of snow and the brutal wind that likes to blow you into said snow and having to wear ski goggles and hiking boots on the walk home and exams and christmas music on the radio and crawling out of snowbanks, but on top of all that we have to look forward to … a pretty dismal season of anime. Luckily, Kyousogiga came along, which had an incredibly awesome (yet incomprehensible) trailer that hopefully wouldn’t disappoint. It didn’t, for me, at least. I loved every minute of it.

I also love how one of the brothers is so apathetic about everything...
My first reaction upon finishing it was to watch it again. And again. It’s pretty hard to read the subs because of all the stuff happening on the screen at the same time, but it’s not exactly chaotic, either. It’s more because the scenes are so snappy and I wanted to pay attention to both the visuals and the dialogue. The second time I just let all the wonderful crazy wash over me, while picking up on all the little details happening in the background that I missed the first time around. Then I watched the PV, which barely shares any of the same scenes but is still a very high concentration of awesome.
I have a thing for short stories, and the same goes for little OVAs like this. There’s something about watching how writers can go about portraying so much about their characters in such a short amount of time (I kind of hate how all of my favorites are movies or one-shots. There’s nothing like that sad, empty hole in your heart left by something so wonderful yet brief… or is it wonderful because it is brief….. I’m going to go cry in a corner now…. I hate winter). What’s more impressive is how Kyousogiga pulls it off with so many different characters—but by the end of it I already had a good feel of each of their quirks, personalities, motives.

The whole OVA seems to take place in one day.
I liked Koto from the start, and I never guessed that those twins would be her brothers in the PV; once you add Myoe they’re such a lovable family unit. I like how you can tell there’s history behind the other sibling trio’s relationships with each other through their teasing and insults, and I loved how the white coat/computer hacker group had such a hilarious dynamic in their total of what, a few minutes of screen time? I liked how, despite the otherworldly background, there were so many ‘everyday’ people, like the excitable little girl with her grandma, or that mother with her kids, and it all took place in this manic version of Kyoto that, although crazy, had such a striking design. And there’s still so many things we still need to know. What’s with the guy dressed up as a bunny? Or is he actually a bunny? Who’s that alternative version of Koto with the mask and the sword? Is Koto a reincarnation of that rabbit lady or something? What world did she come from and how/why did she get here?

Now if only I could find a better quality download :(
Why is it that all of my favorite shows have an Alice in Wonderland influence in them at some point? Because I hate that book. A lot. I think I’ll let my polite neutral opinion filter go briefly and say that I think it’s a stupid load of junk. (So maybe I still bear a grudge against the Disney movie that scarred me for life when I was child. SO WHAT.) Sure, the motifs are all well and lovely—they inspire cool things like episode nine of Mawaru Penguindrum, or episode thirteen of Ouran Host Club (which I still remember with startingly clarity, because they’re my favorites). But sometimes I think that the reason why generations are enamored with that tale is as questionable as the story itself. Thankfully, what stops this OVA from being a stupid load of junk is the sheer fun behind the characters’ interactions with each other. You could take out the action and I’d still watch it if I could just learn more about them.

Remember to stick around after the credits for a less jarring ending!
The last OVA short that I saw was Cencoroll, and I really enjoyed it; it’s just that the characters seemed a little underwhelming, but not nearly as head-bangingly boring as those in BRS. But Kyousogiga was everything I loved and more, the energy, the creativity, all that non-stop action, fascinating characters, bright colors, and a bucketload of crazy. I just hate how it leaves me like some sort of addict of whatever drugs this show was on, because I have to have more. Now can I get 13 episodes of this, please?

Personally after watching this OVA once and only now did I see the PV I really think Kyousogiga would do much better off if it was a series instead of a one-shot OVA that had put so much into it, my mind couldn't really comprehend or decided to give up trying to comprehend EVERYTHING about it. The colours are nice but the random action really made me think that it's just there for the sake of pulling in people who like action. As for the story: a girl and her brothers want to get out of this Kyoto so they try to find the lady but get's mistaken by that unique trio consisting of an old monk, a demon lady and a human who's also a monk as the perosn who looks like Koto thus the lady shows and tell her she can't go home… it didn't work for me being an OVA due to how fast everything was going and how many unanswered questions there were that it made me feel like it was just 20 minutes of reckless action. But that's just me ^^
Other than that HI MINT!!!! x3 It's been soo long~

Tofuuuuu!! How's it going? I really have no clue what was going, but all I know was that I was very entertained XD I can't see much of a resemblance between the bunny lady or Koto, but they did say it was the soul that mattered… or something… but what is she, a reincarnation of some sort? A version of her in a parallel world? Oh well. I never thought I'd be the type for mindless action but I can't easily pin this show down to any type of person. Crazy people maybe ;P
oh I meant the "alternative version of Koto with the mask and the sword" that you mentioned as Koto's resemblance xD I think they mistakened Koto for her but then the bunny lady came back and it was peaceful again(?). ahahahaha well I guess we all have different preferences and likes when it comes to anime ;D and that's what makes an anime community so diverse and colourful deshou~?

Odd and unique ova! Damn I had so much fun watching this and falling in love with the insane art style <3 and Koto voice ! I kept on thinking Kagura from Gintama hahah it was really entertaining.
Giant mech fight too! I was not expecting such fantastic fighting :D :D
I just started watching/reading Gintama a few days ago (holiday breaks are so nice ^__^) and man is that series crazy. In a good way :D Glad you enjoyed it too Fosh!
As you and Tofu have already said before, it's better off as an OVA. It has too much awesomeness packed in it that it's actually spreading itself too thick, not thin. I've just watched this for the first two right before writing this comment and all I could catch was that the three siblings are in Kyoto, it's a festival day, they're fighting spirits (good or bad, i don't know) and they get into trouble. They want to go back somewhere…Then they have these three people (the monk, princess and Myoue) who are the children of Lady Koto. Then they used Koto to bring Lady Koto back.
I'm thinking Koto could be a reincarnation of Lady Koto, but the thing is that she triggered her to re-appear, while means that she must exist somewhere else. Lady Koto must be asleep in Koto somewhere and was awakened by that awesometastic battle extravaganza.
Loved the colourful animation, the fluid motion of everything, especially the fight scenes, and use of the different angles. God damn the art of everything is so coooooooooooooooooooooool.
This OVA is only the trailer right? RIGHT?

Stratch that, the siblings are trying to get to the other side but it's sealed off…

I think in Mint's view she likes it as an OVA while as I prefer if Kyosogiga is a series not an OVA xD

No no I want a series too! They can't unleash that much snazzy animation and creativity and leave it like that, can they? (I hope not T_T) Definitely agree on how great the different angles/fluidity/crazy battles were :D It's strange, I would've never expected it from a bunch of people who worked on Precure and made this with a toy company (reminds me of that magical girl thing with that car company) but it was really fun :)
ugh… don't even talk about that Subaru collaboration LOLS I don't even remember the name to that nor do I want to remember anything about it :P
