Ano Natsu de Matteru [First Impressions]

Hello minna-san! Here’s the first impressions on Ano Natsu de Matteru titled “You Shouldn’t Do That”. Hope you enjoy!

Ano Natsu de Matteru

I walked into this thinking it’d be a slice-of-life romance revolving around a camera. I was right. What I didn’t expect was sci-fi elements being incorporated (checked MAL a tad too late) which really left me confused after a minute into the episode. Talk about a great way to start things off. As the confused person I was, I knocked it off as a dream but no, my hopes had to be ruined once again when the sci-fi stuff were real. Is there even a reason for it? Will there be some bad guys who will come down and start an all-out battle? Did no one else notice a big giant missile-like object fall to the ground from the SKY!? Is the main character going to gain some power from his the metabolism from his cells? Is this even going to turn out like how we all viewed it? One thing’s for sure, we can toss out the idea that this show will be better than Ano Hana.

In all honesty, I can’t think of anything good to say about the episode besides the fact that my favourite character would have to be Lemon who’s a very unusual and peculiar loli. As for the other characters… well… as for now there’s nothing really spectacular about them per say. The more I ponder of what good things the episode did, the more I realize that there was really nothing great about it. Nothing stood out but it wasn’t bad as well. I’m a very lenient guy when it comes to anime and that is probably why – as much as this episode and most likely the series itself won’t be outstanding or anything special – I’m still going to continue watching Ano Natsu.

I seriously don’t know why considering all I can think of are bad things Ano Natsu shouldn’t have incorporated. One for example is the sci-fi element (I’m open for debates). I really can’t see it working for such a series and it’s most likely there for the sake of having a clueless-megane-beauty that will display heaps of fan service in the episodes to come. The most likely reason I’ll be continuing this is for the hope that it will get better (even if it’s very slim) and also the fact that they’ve sold me in the art and character designs (well I did like the art and character designs in Ano Hana and H.O.T.D a lot…).

Should you watch it? I really don’t know what to say. Honestly, the show isn’t outstanding in any aspect but I can’t say it was really bad to not watch it. The only thing I can say is if you wish to watch it then go ahead, if you don’t wish to watch it then you’re not missing out much this season. I for one will be continuing this in hopes that Nagai Tatsuyuki will notice and fix up any errors in the future as the director of the series.

Till next time minna-san!

  • Lemon reminds me of Taiga who is one of the most adorable anime girls ever. They do share the same character designer, so not much of a coincidence. But my favorite here is the redhead. Dayum. I didn't know I liked glasses so much…

Will stick around for a bit, although like you, I have low expectations. =/

    • I definitely had that feeling of Taiga and you know what? I really adored Taiga so I can see myself liking Lemon much much more in the future x3

I can't gonna disagree that the redhead is appealing but I also know you love redheads Renn >;D

  • The whole extra-terrestrial thing (which just so happened to be big tits bitch wearing megane) just leave a bad taste in my mouth. Plus the fact that we pretty much has seen this kind of story too many times before… it won’t sits well with many unless they don’t mind the cliche shit. I am not that kind.

    • I totally understand what you mean and I'm really really worried whether or not it can work : Then again, I can picture myself dropping this series after a few more episodes (Tamayura was all cute and stuff but it got boring)

  • I'm with you Tofu, the show isn't outstanding and it feels a lot like other shows. I mean seriously, it does start with a girl falling off the sky.

But it's not a bad show either, I find it somehow soothing and easy to watch. I just hope it won't jump into 'girls fighting over a boy who can't decide until the final episode' wagon.

That said, watching it for the cute and silly alien.
