Nisemonogatari [First Impressions]

Hello minna-san! Here’s the first impression on Nisemonogatari titled “Karen Bee, Part 1”. Hope you enjoy!

Nisemonogatari

As much as we know how SHAFT handles it’s art and camera angles, we still can’t help but be amazed by how unique it is compared to other shows and also the fact that every scene has its own hidden meaning to the situation (even though most of us won’t be able to grasp the meaning of every scene). It’s impressive enough that SHAFT is able to spend so much time to include all these scenes and hidden meanings but it doesn’t stop there. Why so? Because we’re talking about one of SHAFT’s best continuing series – the ****monogatari series which it is well known for. Due to the fact that Bakemongatari was a great show (for a majority of us) we walk into Nisemonogatari with high expectations and personally, my expectations were satisfied. Due to the fact that SHAFT’s unique art and camera angles can be hard to follow, you can’t blame those who didn’t like Bakemonogatari. Still, it’s not a show you won’t be able to understand the gist of things even without knowing all the hidden meanings. That’s what makes this show so lovable and appealing to a wide audience unless you’ve got a few personal reasons to hate the show (that can’t be helped).

In my defence for the show, why I believe that Nisemonogatari’s first episode was a satisfying episode for the most of us who loved Bakemonogatari was due to the fact that it was able to bring up every character within the time of 24 minutes. Each character was either talked about, shown or in a discussion with Araragi which also helped refresh our memories or either how they looked or the types of personality each of them have. You could argue that Kanbaru or Karen didn’t get any air time but the fact that they were talked about and within those short chats, we’re already able to tell how they are. As an example Kanbaru was mentioned during Araragi’s kidnapping which also showed us how she’s quite the tease when Araragi said to Senjougahara “…only Kanbaru would come up with that” after she teased him about feeding Araragi mouth-to-mouth. Personally, I think it’s brilliant how they incorporated each character, refreshing out minds within a short time frame and at the same time touch upon character development at the same time.

As much as everything’s become quite nostalgic, the episode also introduces us to a new issue revolving around Araragi’s vampire secret which he ponders on whether or not he should tell his sisters. It was great to consult that problem with the one-and-only Hachikuji which also gave us a few humorous scenes as well. Araragi sexually abusing Hachikuji never gets old but I’ve never realized why he does that to her. Being able to see the two of them goofing around for nearly the whole episode wasn’t all just fun and games for the sake of wasting time. Maybe you haven’t noticed by the talk of “courage” is closely linked to Araragi’s current issue. He needs to have the ‘courage’ to wait for the right time to tell his sisters about him being a vampire (oh my god, adding courage to your sentences DOES make everything sound much cooler).

I’m not the know-it-all, in fact, I’m the opposite so whether or not my statement up top is true is a mystery but that’s how I interpreted it. I certainly can’t pick up much hidden meanings like buying love at the convenience store for 298 yen which I just brushed of as comedy. Either way, it’s great to see how well each and every scene flows from one to another. Not many shows can do what the ***monogatari series can do when it comes to changing the atmosphere or even switching from a serious situation to a humorous situation. Even the BGM’s used were well placed and as lovable as they used to be in Bakemonogatari. I did an ED with dancing but sadly Hachikuji trolled us all with her smile at the end. Either way you can tell I’m definitely looking forward to the next episode considering I loved Bakemonogatari series. As for blogging, I’ll most likely not blog Nisemonogatari due to time management and how crazy SHAFT can get with their camera angles and hidden meanings.

Should you watch it? If you’ve seen Bakemonogatari then yes, do watch NIsemonogatari. If you haven’t seen Bakemonogatari then find the ‘courage’ watch it whenever you have the chance because you really are missing out on a wonderful show. See what I did there?

Till next time minna-san!
