Inu X Boku SS [First Impressions]

Hello minna-san! Here’s my first impression on Inu X Boku SS titled “The Dog and I”. Hope you enjoy!

Inu X Boku SS

Yeah, Inu X Boku’s got bishounen’s that girls will come to love and bishoujou’s us guys will adore with heaps of fan service. We’ve also got an emotionless pink haired girl, a tsundere loli, a blond who’s as loyal as a dog and even a big jug lesbian that all live together in Maison de Ayakashi. By all means I don’t hate this show; in fact, I really enjoyed the first episode of Inu X Boku even with all the weird characters and constant fan service. The fan service displayed in Inu X Boku wouldn’t be classified as ‘forceful’ fan service like what H.O.T.D did but of course fan service is there pull viewers in. That reason would never change which is why it’s pointless to discuss about fan service; rather let me inform you that Inu X Boku isn’t all about fan service and isn’t the reason why I enjoyed this episode a lot.

Inu’s pacing and flow is befitting throughout the episode; whether Ririchiyo was strolling around, talking about her past or interacting with other characters, nothing was too fast, too sudden or too slow. As much of a ‘tsundere’ she is labelled as due to the way she acts, what separates her from other generic tsundere is the fact that Ririchiyo hates that tsun side of hers considering it’s a bad habit she developed from a unfortunate childhood which she hopes to get rid of. Ririchiyo’s been through a lot that you can’t help but feel for her; wishing for her happiness. With that, Inu X Boku’s already got you relating to a character and I feel that this is what Inu X Boku has done well in the first episode (besides getting all the girls screaming over Soushi). Each character has a unique side to them which is why you can come to like each of the characters for whatever reason you have (it’s not like I can tell what you’re thinking).

Disregard what I said earlier as ‘negative’ because I certainly didn’t mean it in a negative way when it comes to Inu’s cast of characters. The emotionless pink haired girl (Karuta) is voiced by Hanazawa Kana and is adorable yet funny during her talk with Renshou being scared. On the other hand, that “big jug lesbian” is none other than Nobara Yukinokouji who’s voiced by none other than the goddess herself: Hikasa Yoko. Her ‘openness’ is much likable and very appealing of a character who makes the place lively and fun for us viewers. Personally, there’s not one character I dislike in Inu X Boku so far and the art is much appealing and would satisfy those who have read the manga and fell in love with the character designs used in it too due to how similar they look (of course I’m just speculating here since I haven’t read the manga myself). A great thing about Inu X Boku is that it knows when to be funny and when to be serious or whatever the situation puts the characters in. Nothing so far feels out of place and there’s nothing I can find to hate about the first episode.

Should you watch it? First of all, if you’re not bothered by fan service then do give the first episode a try. It’s got great male and female characters within its cast which both genders will come to like (which is why even some people can’t decide whether or not Inu X Boku is a shounen or shoujou anime). The art really blends in with both the music and the atmosphere we’re thrown into witnessing. I’m definitely continuing this series and as for blogging, I might be picking this show up but don’t get your hopes up too much.

Till next time minna-san!

I'm bothered by fanservice nine out of ten times and I wasn't here. The plot never stops moving just to show panties or anything, so it's all clear for me.

And it's quite funny that this "equal opportunity" approach of a dazzling female AND male lead actually makes both of the characters interesting, rather than the sad imbalance that's been so common recently.

Simple but fun, I hope they can keep it up like this.

I think I will give this one a try. I was extremely apprehensive about jumping on this bandwagon, but you have eased my fears quite a bit. Thanks!

Inu x Boku is a Shounen anime, OBVIOUSLY. Because first of all, it has fanservice, it has a loli female lead, it has a tsundere loli, AND it's about 52 episodes (From what i've heard), Also look how the characters are drawn, it's far from being a shoujo, Wiki also says it's Shounen.
and it's stupid how some people dislike fanservice when clearly plenty of people watch an anime just for the fanservice, let's not forget it's called "Fan service" for a damn reason, i don't get how someone can dislike fanservice, unless they're phags.

    • It definitely does lean to the shounen side more but wow 52 episodes? For this kind of anime? I can't really imagine them dragging the story for that long (hmm… maybe I should go read up the manga) :P

There is definitely people who do love fan service but a service offered to its fans isn't always something everyone can enjoy, girls might not like having fan service or some guys who do not wish to see certain fan service for whatever reason (I wouldn't know, I'm not one of them) But what I do hate about fan service is the timing of when they show it. If it flows with the story well and isn't forced just for the sake of showing panties then I'm fine but if it's something like H.O.T.D, they're throwing at your face constantly, almost saying to you "don't worry about everything else being bad, watch this show for the panties and boobs" and I don't want to waste my time watching a show about panties and boobs. I love a great story, art and character development.
