Accel World 03
At the end of episode 3, I was left with mixed feelings about Accel World. To drop or not to drop, that is the question. Not only did we get a bunch of explaining in the 2nd episode, episode 3 tagged along by giving us a lengthy worth of a back story; making these 2 episodes somewhat tasteless to sit through. It wasn’t the best of experiences with Accel World’s first impressions on me but I can say that I won’t be dropping it this soon and hopefully not at all if it get’s better. As for Kuroyukihime’s ugly form that I’ve been wondering about for the past week, I’ve found out what it looks like. If you payed close attention to her escape from Cyan Pile, you’ll realize that her ‘ugly form’ that she (presumably) uses for fighting is shown in the OP. On that note, I even know what Cyan Pile looks like after hinting us by his failed attempt at a surprise attack (His identity is also in the OP).
I figured I’d show you pictures but chose not to for those who still can’t figure it out. I’d rather not ruin the surprise like how I’ve ruined it for myself (yep, I’m blaming my eyes for picking it up). Even so, I think I’ve caught onto the twist at the end. What I mean is, I think I might’ve solved the mystery behind who Cyan Pile is! Near the end, we realized that Chiyuri has a backdoor (get it? backdoor?) so the likely culprit to be Cyan Pile would be Chiyuri right? Wrong. Remember how Kuroyukihime said that she couldn’t find the person in the assembly? It can’t be someone who’s at school then so it has to be someone ‘outside’ of school. And the only person who we’ve been introduced that resides outside of school is Chiyuri’s boyfriend: Taku.
Call it absurd but I love over-thinking things and this time around, I feel like I’m onto something here. Taku’s the most mysterious person in the cast so far; being nearly invisible due to how little air time he gets and also a slight ‘personality’ change during his chat with Haruyuki. Remember the time when Haruyuki said to Taku that Taku could practically defeat everyone? How do you think he responded to that? Suspicious is it not? And I know this is more than absurd but you can see how he’s wearing a lot of ‘blue’ in that scene. Could this be an indication that he’s Cyan Pile after all?
“But Tofu, what about the backdoor?”. It’s normal to have a backdoor for humans is it not? Teehee… well jokes aside (I’m literally thinking this up on the spot) the backdoor incident could be a collaboration between Taku and Chiyuri where Taku plays as Cyan Pile and Chiyuri serves as the hard drive to run it. Due to how worked up he got when he chatted with Haruyuki, it does seem like there’s a sense of desperation. Maybe because he lost the Brain Burst program already but wished to keep fighting and resorted to using Chiyuri as a ‘last chance’. Then again, if you were to ask me if it’s possible for others to use other people in order to fight in that game then I can’t answer you. Even so it’s a cool assumption right? …right?

Rating: I’ve decided to give this episode 6 out of 10. It was close to getting a 5 out of 10 if it didn’t have a twist at the end. My optimism can only last so long and I really do hope that in the next episode, we’ll see something more thrilling with the whole Cyan Pile guessing game. I’ll need a bit more time to get used to Haruyuki being the character he is physically and mentally. Kuroyukihime is still the only character I care about in Accel World and that’s not a great thing for someone like me who wants to enjoy the series as a whole. If my assumption is correct, Taku would have a bigger role in the future episodes but if he’s really not Cyan Pile then I see no point in his existence in the story. Let’s keep hoping Accel World won’t shame themselves any further.
