Sankarea 04

It was too beautiful to be left out <3

Remember the time I wished Sankarea didn’t incorporate too much fan service? Yeah… Well even so, I was still able to enjoy episode 4 to a certain extent because of Sankarea’s extraordinary background animation and the development between Furuya and Rea. After coming out of the prologue to the story, you’ll expect the level of entertainment to drop to a more calm and slow paced progression. Sankarea did just that while incorporating – what it believes to be good for the show – fan service.

Practically how we all react to fan service: "Shoot me now, I don't want anymore" or "Holy shit is this a dream!?" ...see what I did there? :P

Yes, I like K-On and that has heaps of fan service in it but what type of sexual fan service I actually hate is those that are put in your face for no reason. Take for example Wanko’s panty shot in episode 3. Was that necessary to have? No. What about Rea doing some ‘exercises’ with the shower scrubber? Definitely not necessary. I didn’t mind the rest to be completely honest. Rea wanting to shower is completely fine and the time she had to expose her skin so she could stitch up her wound? Of course, that’s totally fine too. I prefer fan service with a meaning but enough negativity, let’s move onto what made episode 4 likeable shall we?

that smile... <3

As I mentioned up top, Sankarea’s extraordinary background animation continues to strum the right notes in me; making this show worthwhile to watch alongside the main cast (Furuya and Rea) slowly developing their love for each other. It’s sweet and adorable seeing these two together. I for one who didn’t laugh at the jokes incorporated in the previous episodes, laughed at how Furuya got all excited about his dream coming true. Sure nothing much really happened this episode but it still held it all together with some development and most importantly story progression with a twist that gives you the desire to watch the next episode. If an episode can do that then it has done its job.

THAT SMILE! <3

Rating: I’ve decided to give this episode 7 out of 10. The fan service did ruin my overall enjoyment in episode 4 but putting that aside, I really loved the animation and adored Furuya’s and Rea’s romantic development. I’m glad that Sankarea isn’t going to turn into a slice-of-life, school-life, romance after such a interesting turn of events from the prologue. The weird thing is I felt like when Rea’s father stood up in the bath, he actually had an erection due to Rea’s mother’s reaction when ‘looking down’ (but that’s a long shot). I’m interested to see what Furuya will do about Rea having rigor mortis. I betcha’ the way to keep Rea ‘fresh’ is for her to nibble on those leaves.

Yours didn't get that big for me bastard
