I believe that most people who’ve seen episode 5 by now would be thinking “what the hell happened in the last minutes!?” because I’m failing to comprehend whether Rea’s assault on Wanko has a deeper meaning than just another ‘for-the-sake-of-it’ fan service moment. Hopefully our questions regarding the situation as to why it happened as it did will be explained in episode 6. Looking into the previews (which I’ve never done until Jormungand persuaded me to) it does look like a resolved situation where Sankarea is accepted into the household for her circumstances. Can’t next week come any faster!?
I can definitely see how episode 4 and 5 is used as a slow paced story progression in order to gain our curiosity so that episode 6 serves as an explanation episode to answer all our questions. I don’t mind that at all as slow as it’s going right now. I quite like the slow pace and although the comedy most of the time is a miss for me, I’m still enjoying Sankarea for their brilliant background art and the two love birds. All the other side characters besides Furuya’s and Rea’s family aren’t that important in the series and I have the notion that they won’t ever be. On the topic of important characters, I’m most interested to see what Rea’s father has devised to get his daughter back but as for now, Furuya’s and Rea’s development is coming through smoothly. Sure there was a sudden kiss scene but hey, I’m sure most of you enjoyed that.
Rating: I’ve decided to give this episode 6 out of 10. To make things clear, a 6 isn’t all so bad for such an episode that is supposed to be combined with episode 4 to gain your curiosity before episode 6 acts as the revelation to our questions. It’s not that Sankarea is losing their entertainment value more so as a build up strategy so although if you were to single out each episode and rank it like I have, you’ll have to look at how each of these episodes come together to give you a great (or not so great) series. I’ve noticed the clever use of CG when Wanko’s friend jumps out of the bushes. It was so subtle I didn’t notice it the first 2 times I re-watched the episode so I must give it a thumbs up for great use of CG. I’m really interested in what Furuya’s grandpa means by ‘his’ resurrection pill. Guess we’ll have to wait for next week’s episode folks!
