Private Yippy Reporting For Duty!

Time travel and late nights can get you far, my greenhorn friend.

Hi there, my (nick)name is Yippy and I’m one of Sekijitsu’s new recruits!

I’m kinda late compared to everyone else’s speedy posts , but I guess it’s better late than never, right?

Well, here goes-a peek at myself, my involvement in Sekijitsu and what I plan to do as a Sekijitsu-er.

Who are you?

My name is Yippy-unlike my fellow newbie Umizi’s (Entering the AniBlogSphere in 3, 2, 1!) name, it doesn’t really have a meaning behind it. Instead, it’s sole purpose is to remind new acquaintances of my real name, which is kinda generic around here in balmy Malaysia.

It does represent a few things though. It represents a youth who is currently studying in a college preparatory course while fighting back the forces of assignments for his aniME time. It also represents an athletically-challenged teen who can’t for the life of him, run a 100 metres without collapsing. Most of all, it represents a passionate otaku who has made it his life’s mission to watch every single anime ever created explore, understand and spread his love of Japanese pop culture, specifically anime.

That begs the question though, how did you get into it? Any favourite shows or genres?

Up to this point, I’ve already typed out the story of how I got into anime twice (once on my personal aniblog and once during my application for Sekijitsu). So, to spice things up a bit, why not be random and throw in a haiku?

Bleach manga, so good;

Got me in a Nihon mood;

Now Lucky Star’s good.

Putting aside my questionable poetry skills, I got into animanga through Bleach thanks to a friends’s reccomendation. After reading more and more about this fascinating subculture, I leapt into my first anime-Lucky Star. The rest as they say, is history. If you hadn’t read that, what would you have interpreted from the above haiku?

Anyway, from the top of my head, these are some of the anime I’ve watched in a little over 3 years:

  • Kimi ni Todoke S1
  • Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni
  • Library Wars
  • Clannad (a.k.a. Tear-Jerker Kit)
  • Gurren Lagann (a.k.a. Manly-Tear-Jerker Kit)

Looking at this list, you can see that I jump all over the place when it comes to anime, since I’m constantly searching for a show with a plot full of twists and gorgeous art. If I had to choose which genres I’d go for first, I’d pick sci-fi for its fantastic possibilities, romance for the fuzzy feelings it gives you and slice-of-life for its wonder at the everyday.

Godly OST’s are also on my radar when it comes to searching for anime, which is why Sora no Woto is on my list of favourites. Speaking of favourites, here are a few in a random order: Nichijou, Madoka Magica, Cowboy Bebop, Gurren Lagann, anything with Shinichiro Watanabe on it and a hodgepodge of shows.

Seriously, Nichijou?

What? I liked the silly way they portrayed the everyday. Furthermore-

Moving on, why Sekijitsu? What convinced you to apply for a writer postion?

Hm…you could say that I’m here mainly because of my desire to seek new fellow otaku friends. Not many I can find IRL around here. I like listening to different comments about the same shows too, it gives me something to mull over and debate about.

The chance to  get feedback on my writing skills was also why I signed up for this position. Truth be told, I ran a small aniblog once. Lacking savvy, I mainly catered to myself by writing there. Now, however, I hope to get opinions on my writing and deliver better writing as time goes by. The above reasons sound selfish, but that’s the truth.

However, I also do have an underlying goal to help make Sekijitsu a must-recommend aniblog. I’d like to be part of a place where people come to share their fascination with moving pictures, debate controversial issues (nicely) and joke about cliches and tropes.

Alright, now end it. My pen’s running out of ink.

Thus, I look forward to writing up a storm in Sekijitsu for as long as possible. May you dear readers find my posts entertaining and debate-worthy while enjoying your stay in Sekijitsu, however brief it may be.

Thank you all (including you too, rude interviewer).

Likewise, I’ll be sure to write that last part down too.

*sigh* Anyway, do tell them that I’m not just an otaku while you’re at it. I’m also a fan of Japanese culture, epsecially its language. Heck, I’m self-studying it right now. Besides Japan, I also dig history, philosophy and trivia in general.

Sure, sure. Anything else?

Well, I’d like to say that I’m planning on covering Chouyaku Hyakuninisshu: Uta Koi and Natsuyuki Rendezvous. Joshiraku and Sword Art Online are in my sights too if they’re not taken by anyone else yet.

Oh, and here are my contact details for the rest of the newbie team. We really do need to find a time to introduce ourselves and chat soon. I’m feeling very lonely and kinda lost here!  T_T
