Sword Art Online 06
OMG OMG OMG I’m sooo sorry this is far later than I wanted. I just started a new job this week and I am moving house on Saturday so everything has been a bit bat shit mental. So I apologize and now for your enjoyment Tofu and I tag team the plot out of SAO Episode 6.
Looks like I was partially right. Grimrock was behind all this all along but wasn’t the ‘murderer’ (so my guess was slightly off). But can I just say that I fricken hate the guy? It was bad that he had killed Yuuko (his wife) for merely changing into a more lively and active person but to think that it wasn’t love but possession that he felt… it made my blood boil alright. I’m just glad I won’t ever get to see that guy ever again (even though his air time was unfittingly short).
Tofu: The whole “I’m a bad guy for a good reason” then Asuna comes along and goes “OBJECTION!” and bam, he practically loses all his strength; mentally defeated and dragged away by his teammates… what the hell is up with that? It was way too short and felt anti-climatic. It was practically a waste of 3 minutes and really says something about the level of adaptations for SAO. Sure this 2 episode mystery arc is mainly for Kirito and Asuna to develop a stronger bond with each other, that doesn’t mean the twist in the arc needs to be downgraded.
Tofu: But on the positive side, I loved seeing Kirito and Asuna bond. As little as it was with many implications hidden here and there, these two resonates an adorable and charming aura around them. Maybe it’s due to their talk about marriages or Asuna’s friendship invite? Who knows? I’m just relaxing and enjoying the Asuna X Kirito relationship develop further and further. Then again… what will we be seeing from now on? More 1 episode stories? 2 episode stories? 3 episode stories? I just want to see SAO to be more consistent throughout the 24 episodes. Should I be hoping for this?
So I’m happy to see that nobody actually died in this murder mystery however much like Tofu I am a little disappointed in the execution of the big twist. Kirito’s big epiphany moment was really cool it really reminded me of House and that is always a good thing. I was surprised to find out that Yolko and the other should’ve been dead guy were exploiting the way items expire in safe zones. I’m interested to see if and how this could come around again and it seems to me like quite a big thing to bring up and never use again.
Asch: Now to copy Tofu’s layout more and more, the bonding. I know the past couple of episodes were just a vehicle to get Asuna and Kirito back in the plot together and it did make me feel like the whole situation was forced this episode. Yes their relationship is cute and adorable and the friend request is a step in the right direction, but the whole use a married couple to make marriage come up between the two… yeah I hate forced narratives like that, especially when the marriage in question wasn’t exactly a happy loving one and more like an owner and his pet. What I did really love however was the closure with Griselda’s ghost or whatever you want to call it, quite a nice ending letting us know she is now at peace and of course that even these top players don’t know everything about the game.
Asch: Rant’s aside I enjoyed the episode, not as much as others. I likey the sword fighting more than what I consider a poorly executed twist just to force Asuna and Kirito to start bonding. Now next week we better start seeing some full on raids or something and less Kirito targets another girl…
