Myna’s Top 5 Anime Moms
In a medium where most mothers are dead and/or shallow MILFs, these are the ones who stand out the most for me.
She is a terrible mother. And that is why she’s on this list. It makes Rosa memorable. Even though she was one of the least likable characters in an overall irritating cast. (I was also debating about putting Eva on here, but it’s Eva-Beatrice that does all the fun stuff.)
4. Matsumae Satsuki (Hanasaku Iroha)
Not only was she Hanasaku Iroha’s best character, but its saving grace as well. She’s a modern woman and her personality and all of her action feel realistic. And yes, she is a bit of a MILF. But at least she still looks like a woman who could actually exist in the real world.
3. Daidouji Sonomi (Cardcaptor Sakura)
This woman is hilarious. In addition to the love she has for Sakura and her own daughter Tomoyo, I always found it amusing whenever she met with Fujitaka. Her expressions were great and she’s just awesome. Plus she’s got an adorable hairstyle.
2. Trisha Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist (:Brotherhood))
I know, I know, she’s dead. Again, the dead mother trope is one of the things I detest most in anime. So why’d I pick her? Because Trisha’s death actually drives the plot, whereas in most other shows the mom is dead for the sake of sympathy. Plus the love she has for Hohenheim and her sons just fucking moves me.
1. Kaname Junko (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
Satsuki is also very bro, but Junko is the bro-est mother in anime. And possibly in all of animation. Because she had a midnight drink with her daughter. The scene in episode eleven when she let Madoka go out into the storm is one of my favorite scenes in the show and made Junko my favorite anime mother of all time.
