Sword Art Online 12
Kibaou you complete and utter selfish bastard. Not only did you create a divide between beaters, testers and players but now you’ve gone and corrupted an organisation that started out with the best of intentions. Well played douche. You are now officially the thorn in everyone’s side as your little power play to mask your own inferiority complex is now getting people killed and that’s not to mention the fact that you are ruining people’s lives on the lower floors. Fuck you man… fuck you!
But not to worry as Asuna and Kirito are here to put a hault to your dickish plans of dickishness and heck even Yui wants to help. What a kind hearted child. This is where I really love this episode seeing that not everything in SAO is all death, death, betrayal and more death and that down on the first floor for all those poor kids who just wanted to play the newest MMO there a little social center sorta thing and the fact that it’s run by the Army’s second in command. Well talk about changing my perspective on that rag tag bunch of noobs. I feel much better know that only one faction are a bunch of ego stroking maniacal dictators.
For those who listened to the podcast last week you will have already known that Yui AKA The Mental Health – Counselling Program was an AI created by the system, but this week we got all the juicy info about the inner workings of SAO. Amazingly enough it seems Kayaba has very little control on how the system evolves around the players, instead the super AI (that’s what I’m going to call it) ‘Cardinal’ determines how the game is played. So at the very least Kayaba is caught as off guard as everybody else if Cardinal has changed something and it sounds like it’s doing just that. *Points to a couple episodes back when Asuna says that monsters are becoming less predictable.
I have to admit what I don’t understand in regards to Yui and the Cardinal System. Is that Yui almost certainly seems like she was created to interact with the players, especially the younger ones. As her whole appearance seems to be geared around making her look more approachable and friendly. Yet Cardinal won’t let her interact with the player base… Is it just me or does that make zero sense. I mean why even bother going to the trouble of making her program if it is never going to be put to use.
Before I go on to Admin Yui I want to talk about the Dungeon underneath the Town of Beginnings which is an awesome concept, especially as it expands the higher up the lead group gets. I’m really curious as to what would happen if you had another group on par to the lead group exploring that dungeon every time it expands. Or perhaps even waiting until they are on Floor 99 and then going down there to train more in preparation for the final boss fight. But yeah maybe if they got deeper into the dungeon they would learn more about Kayaba’s reasons or more about Cardinal etc etc. Who knows.
Admin Yui was super cool though. That flaming sword and deleting that bad ass monster, it’s a shame she got semi-deleted as she seemed to have achieved sentience. Her little self monologue scene was actually quite depressing having been alone for so long but wanting to meet Kirito and Asuna who are making the most out of this nonsensical world they have been trapped in, just to get deleted when she has finally gotten to interact with someone. Just as she disappears though, Kirito uses his computer skills to retrieve her and store her heart as a tear crystal, which will save to his nerve gear when the game ends :) So Yui lives on.
This does however lead into my theory for Accel World’s creator as I think its going to be Kirito and his super computer prowess makes that a possibility.
