Shiori-chan is sooo adorable! Sure she’s quite the generic shy character but hey, it’s how you implement such characters which determines the difference between a likable characters and the ‘been-there, done-that’ type of characters. I personally love how the K-On staff animates the intractability between their female characters in K-On and once again in Tamako Market. There’s a beautiful charm to the friendships that are created and Shiori-chan’s friendship is no exception.
Shy characters like Shiori who try to overcome their shyness really hits the spot for me. I just find them really cute how they try so hard but most of the time, their feelings don’t reach across or is misunderstood. It’s a bit generic as I’ve mentioned, but I adore this kind of character development. It’s so KyoAni and so K-On but what can you say? I love KyoAni and I love K-On! A certain charm that only the director Yamada Naoko and character designer Horiguchi Yukiko can capture with both their skills combined on screen.
Besides Shiori-chan’s initialization into the cast, it was hilariously amusing to see Dera-chan being Dera-chan as usual, but this time around there was something else. Besides thinking that Tamako and Kanna-chan loves him, this time around he has fallen in love with Shiori-chan. Well Dera, if you were a male student you might’ve had a chance. Unfortunately… you’re a bird and as sad as it was to see you get constantly shot down, you’re so hilarious to watch suffer. (Oh my god, I seriously am an S now…)
Rating: I’ve decided to give this episode 8 out of 10. I loved the introduction of Shiori into the clique being a fan of shy girls overcoming the shy barrier to speak out their true thoughts, but I also found this episode to be really humorous due to Dera and his belief in DESTINY bringing him and Shiori together. Also, Shiori has climbed up to become my second favourite character in Tamako Market simply because she knows how to make Carbonara! That shit’s beautiful pasta man and if you haven’t tried it yet, I suggest you do!
